Eli Manning just got JACKED

Bleeding profusely, I'll be shocked if he plays another snap this month.

If he hasn't got a concussion, he should have one because that was a good knock on his gourd. I notice Jacob's trying to convince the coach it was his fault he ran into his QB and got him knock around. Eli will get a few stitches I bet.

So for anyone who is unclear, What happened supposedly was it was a running play with Brandon Jacobs, but Eli Manning saw Ramses Barden was 1 on 1 on the outside, so without telling anyone, he decides to keep it to throw to him. Brandon Jacobs, expecting the handoff, runs into the back of Manning, Manning fumbles the ball (later recovered by Jacobs), Manning gets hit by 2 Jets Defenders on accedent while they're scrambling for the ball, Manning gets a bad cut in his forehead thats gushing out blood and he goes to the locker room. Although the giants 2nd team defense is now playing against the Jets 1st team offense so Manning would've likely been done after that play anyways.

That sucker was spitting out blood! Blood started pouring from that cut immediately and it was coming out like rain as he was walking back to the sideline. AWESOME! (not that he got hurt, but the cut and blood was AWESOME!) Anyways, I was literally thinking right before that snap, "WTF are the starters doing in the game with 11 minutes to go in the second QTR. These jokers are asking for a problem." And then.......BAM!

It was just one of the those freak incidents, but these players need to do a better job at actually strapping up the chin strap with both buttons. These helmets are coming off way too often due to laziness.

That's kind of what happened, but it doesn't give you the full picture.

He ran into his back, fumbled the ball up in the air, his helmet rides up. He then, almost immediately, gets the **** knocked out of him from his backside (whiplash style) and his helmet flies off. Force drives him forward and his forehead catches another Jet player's facemack as Eli is going down. He sat there stunned for a second and the blood started coming out immediately. It was one of those "bam, bam, bam, down" kind of bowling pin hits.

Thanks, Kulluminatii....

Man, his helmet was coming up off his head before the very first hit. It was doomed from the beginning.

That first hit was wicked all by itself, then the slam into the facemask that followed was like a finishing move in pro wrestling. BAM! Goodnight, folks....

I can see how his face was squirting blood. Holy cow.

You know how badly the forehead puffs out when it has been traumatized. Can you imagine how gnarly and inflated that area is right now? :shivers:

Ouch that's gotta hurt. I know it's football but come on... it's preseason. Kinda wish a defender wouldn't nail a QB in the back like that. Show a little respect and throw him on the ground, not give him a whiplash by tackling him blindside full force. pre.season.game.1. Regular season? fair game. Pre season or Pro Bowl game? no

Bullcrap. Half speed is not the way to practice.

I absolutely agree with your statement. But I don't agree with a player blitzing during a preseason game 1 and hitting a former superbowl mvp in the back at full force. I understand the game is EXTREMELY fast but I would rather the guy run full speed and wrap up the QB and spin him to the ground while running forward. Not t-bone him in the back.

I can guarantee if that was Cortland Finnegan that did that to Schaub on Saturday night there would be a much different reaction. The Jets and Giants are more of a rivalry thant we are with the Titans. (and I hate just about everything about Finnegan so that's a poor example;))

I understand what you are saying, but you just can't go at it like that. It's football and if you don't play all out, there will be more injuries.

What do you think the Card fans are saying about E Wilson today?

I know, I hear ya. I just hate seeing QB's getting blindsided right on the back at full speed where their head whips back. It's a fast, tough game and I get annoyed sometimes at how careful the refs/rules are regarding QBs but it's preseason! Calvin Pace is a veteran. I can understand a rookie trying to make a name for himself, but I just feel the veterans should have more respect for each other during preseason games and the pro bowl game. But that's not always how its played. :foottap:

I'll put it this way. If Mario Williams blindsides Drew Brees and knocks him hard in the back going full speed, I'll be like "damn that was a big hit!" but I'll also wish he had more respect for Brees and not take that risk of injuring him (that's a potential career ender). But if it's in the reg season or playoffs, it's game time and you go all out (if he's holding the ball).

They said he had 12 stitches. I had a very similar thing happen to me when I was about 17. My brother slammed my head into a tennis court wall in the middle of a scuffle and I had to get 10 stitches right in the center of my head on the edge of my hair line. It really doesn't hurt all that much after the initial injury, however you do bleed ALOT. I had to use two full size towels just on the way to the hospital and they were both covered. The wound does take quite a bit of time to heal, but my injury happened in Mexico and I was treated in Mexico. It took a month before the wound was closed up. My recovery time was probably twice as long as what the Giants could provide for Eli. However, if he comes back too quick he may open the wound up again with a head to head (or really anything) collision and that would put him out again. I would be surprised if they let him play Week 1 if the wound isn't healed to the point where it couldn't open back up. It's better to sit out now than have a lingering problem throughout the season.

I hope Eli makes it out of this (he probably well). No matter how much you hate someone you should never wish that kind of injury upon anyone. I remember when Eric Crouch, iirc, got hit he lost 5cc's of blood because of the hit he took.

Even superficial head wounds bleed alot. I would think that recovery time depends on how deep the cut is. A long shallow cut that requires 12 stitches will heal alot faster that a deep (relatively) cut will.

It will be interesting to see what happens, and what the Giants do.

That was your 10,000th post by the way. :thisbig:

Is it me or is the clip not showing everything? It seems to cut out and repeat as he is tossing it. You know he's coming but I want to see the actual hits?

Eli's face rakes against the Jets guy's facemask (#36). He must have caught his face on that very foremost part of the facemask.

Which was enough to open up a nice gash. Going at that speed, with a downward motion of his face against essentially a metal bar (covered with very thin plastic coating), and it was Bloody Monday for Eli.

It looked worse than it was and Eli will be back next week I am sure. Some of you may hate the guy but he is tough and it will take a lot more than that to take him out. If this were a regular season game I am sure he would have been right back out there.

BTW, it was Brandon Jacobs fault he got jacked in the first place. That's who hit him first.

I heard Eli didn't call an audible even though he changed the play, causing Jacob to look for a handoff that wasn't coming

Just based on the little clip on here his helmet sure did come off quickly..and I know he got hit very hard...but if his helmet was secured I would think it would have stayed on.

There was one Texan last year that kept losing his helmet alot (can't remember who)..that's a recipe for diaster.

I was thinking the samething strap-up right and it is just a busted play

I was less concerned with the helmet coming off and the cut on his head, although that could have been MUCH worse than what happened. I was more concerned with the way his head instantly snapped back.

.

Seems to me it was Manning's fault. He decided to audible from a run to a pass and neglected to tell the RB.

Yea you're right. The way his head snapped was hard to watch. The cut was bad enough but it could have been so much worse.
