Hey it's pre-season for the game thread also. :)

INJURY UPDATE: The following Texans will not play against Denver: SS Glenn Earl, WR Jabar Gaffney, TE Billy Miller, LB Zeke Moreno, S Jon Pendergrass, LB DaShon Polk, DT Daleroy Stewart, WR Sloan Thomas and C/G Todd Washington. WR Jerome Mathis (groin) is questionable.

Jason Simmons will start at strong safety; Victor Riley will start at left tackle.

I wouldn't be surprised if Walker sits. That's okay, as I am anxious to see TJ, and that would allow more PT for him. I really doubt Mathis will play. I was really looking forward to seeing him, as I never saw him play in college, other than a highlight reel. But, I would err on the side of caution there, as we need to make sure he doesn't agravate the hammy.

Texans OUT....

(this is just in case yall didnt know why their out)

Thomas, Sloan WR (ankle)
Polk, Dashon LB (thumb)
Pendergrass, Jon CB (knee)
Washington, Todd C (ankle)
Stewart, Daleroy DT (hamstring)
Moreno, Zeke LB (leg)
Gaffney, JabarWR (shoulder)
Earl, Glenn S (shoulder)

Carr is suppose to play very little and very little may be too much. Its been stated so many times, but all eyes are going to be on the O-line and rightly so. I really hope that we are somehow better. With Mathis, Gaffny and Starling out it almost negates what we want to do with our receivers. Although Armstrong and Kasper are certainly worth watching. Kasper could be the go to guy in the red zone from what they are saying about his hands and feet. He could be one of those special guys. So much potentail offensively and we have to sit and cringe because of the O-line. The O-line stands between us and the playoffs and its as simple as that. I hope we have a good game and a minimum of injuries on both sides. GO TEXANS

I am planning on recording the game, and then playing it back a couple of drives at a time throughout the week. I am going to pay particular attention to the offensive line, and speacial attention to the Wand - Riley battle at LT. By this time next week, I should have a better feel for both of those guys, and who may be ahead. Having said that, I just don't buy all this doom and gloom about the line like Ibar. I prefer to actually let my own eyes tell me. I am simply not going to pre-judge something until I see it. He may ultimately be right, but the last time I looked, battles are won and lost in the trenches, not a message board. I also think it's important that we not forget it is preseason. That means we will not be game planning. If anyone remembers the Pittsburgh game last year, you would have thought we would be 0-16. Their defense basically ran everything our offense was not prepared for. The potential is there for something like that. I am looking more for the one on one battles in the trenches, rather then the big picture of who wins or loses. The biggest thing is we come away with no major injuries!

Porky, I'm not going to disagree with you and I'm glad you are going to watch the O-line very closely. I will be very interested in reading your comments. I'm still not convinced that our O-line problems are not coaching related. For one, everyone talks about two people, Wand and McKinney, and many are convinced the biggest problem is McKinney, not Wand. But who do they pull 1st, Wand and replace him with a guy who has never played LT. But when I suggest Wiegert who has played and started at LT, I'm roasted and toasted.
The funny thing is all I want to see is a better O-line. I agree that what Denver does in this game may make it difficult to evaluate, but our O-line should be prepared to handle anything as should the offensive play calling. But we will be calling plays to see how certain people perform and points scored will not be the ultimate goal in this game. I think the special teams play should be very exciting despite Mathis being off the field. The two minute drill should be a lot of fun to watch. In that drill I would watch for Kasper.

the texans front office appreciates you guys watching the OL closely
I know you are probably being facetious, but I prefer to be an educated fan. I am not going to rip the offensive line just to rip them. Any 15 yr old can come in here and bash the line. If I rip them this season, I want it to be because they need to be ripped, not because a bunch of message board monkeys come in here and mimic each other.
