Texans Win Loss Record

How many games will the Texans win this year and are there any upsets in mind? I would like to see us be a .500 team if not a over.

At least 8-8, if not better. I see us beating every team in our division at least once. And I also see us beating The Packers on national telivision. We have it in us to beat The Vikings too.

Somewhere between 7-9 to 10-6. Really depends on injuries.

while i dont think that 11-5 is out of the question by any means given the flashes we gave last season against playoff and superbowl teams, I'm fully anticipating no less than an 8-8 season...

I Think the texans may make the playoffs this year considering we can stay healthy on the field. I dont know if we can expect a superbowl this year, but there sure is enough talent on or side of the ball to make teams alittle more scared when they see or name on the schedule! Houston needs a little respect considering or well known past w/ sports!

see them at maybe 10-6 or at worst 9-7

In our division we will sweep the Titans, Split with the Jags and get swept by the Colts.
We will beat the Bolts, Lions, Raiders, Jets, and even drive the Vikings to consider relocation to Texas (What did they build the Alamodome for anyway?).
The Broncos, Chiefs, Packers and Bears (Soldier Field will be COLD and Dave Carr is from Bakersfield) will make us look like the practice squad.
The Browns will be a toss up and whichever non playoff team wants it bad enough will get it.
Depending on injuries and luck a wildcard is possible, but...
Still a respectable season, and with a good offseason (draft, free agency, trades..) we will be an elite team in our division until our youngsters (Carr, Davis, Johnson,etc..) grow up and leave or retire.

Grid took my 16-0 but to be honest we will be contenders if DD can run the ball effectively that will open up the pass. If our defense can hold teams to 14 points a game we should be capable of going 10-6 or 11-5... 9-7 at worse.... just get to the tournament anything can happen.... Superbowl (it could happen)

I think our success depends mostly on our health and our ability to defeat the teams in our division. If we can sweep the Jags and the Titans we will be in extremely good shape...it'd be nice to get a win against the Colts as well but in my eyes they are too good for us.

I think anything less than 8-8 will be a disappointment.

I don't think the Colts are going to sweep us this season. I also don't think that a sweep of the Titans by us is in the cards and I don't take a sweeping of the Jags for granted either. Honestly I think that any team in the AFC South has a chance to sweep any other team. We're just as likely to sweep the Colts as they are to do it to us.

I see the season shaping up like this (Standard disclaimer regarding the fact that this prediction is being made prior to training camp starting applies. Everything can change with an injury or two and someone getting hot (or cold) and of course this is off the top of my head).

Chargers - We win this one. Opening day magic continues for one more season.

Lions - Second win in a row and monkey off our back. Texans make early noise in the press. Headlines give them way too much credit for the two wins and act like they've "arrived" because lets face it, in the early part of the season the press is looking for a story.

Chiefs - Here I'm going out on a limb. We beat the Chiefs and the hype really gets going. I expect the Chiefs to overlook us a little this time around (even though we're going in there 2-0. Because of who we've played and how they beat us last year they are this seasons Dolphin game) It's going to be close but we manage to hold on for the win.

Raiders - We lose. No worries though because we finish the first quarter of the season 3-1 and everyone is happy.

Vikings - We lose again. It's going to be close but we just don't find a way to beat them. Now we're 3-2 and a few people start to grumble about play calling and Chris Palmer.

Titans - We lose another one. At 3-3 the grumbling is louder even though this game (like most of the games against the Titans) is very close and we don't get thumped.

Jaguars - We win again to get back above .500 and everyone gives a little sigh of relief. Plans for our Super Bowl victory party start to be made by some of the more optimistic fans.

Broncos - We win again. I don't personally believe that the Broncos are going to be very good this year. Time will tell but that's just my opinion. Losing to the Texans at home will be the game that increases the heat on the Denver coaching staff. In Houston some of the more level headed fans start to make plans to attend the previously announced Super Bowl victory parties they heard about the week before. We finish the first half of the season at 5-3 and in contention. Things are looking up.

Colts - We lose and drop to 5-4. It's another close game but we drop it.

Packers - We win and surpass our previous win total to reach 6-4. A victory over the Packers gets the Texans back some of the media attention that they lost during that 3 game losing streak.

Titans - We win at home and at 7-4 everyone is talking playoffs and laughing at Bud Adams. Finally the desire to see him lose to us is quenched.

Jets - We lose. The Jets have Chad Pennington this time around and it's not nearly as close as it was in 2003 though we don't look horrible. We just don't win. 7-5

Colts - We win and split with the Colts to reach 8-5.

Bears - We lose a game that we should probably win to a not very good Chicago team. 8-6 but we're still in it.

Jaguars - We get swept by the Jags (finally, they're the only AFC South team that hasn't done it yet) and we drop to 8-7. Palmer is really catching the heat now from his critics.

Browns - We win to finish 9-7 and need help to get into the playoffs. We don't get it and spend the off season talking about a couple of close losses and listening to the "Fire Palmer" crowd despite the Texans progress to the very edge of the post season in only three years of existence.

The good news is we post a winning record in 2004 and we follow it up with 11 wins in 2005 and our first playoff appearance.

One game in 2004 goes the other way and we make the playoffs this year. It's entirely possible we only win 7-8 games but I don't think so.

That's what I think anyway (right now).

8-8 would be great. That gives us a little room to go 9-7 and have a slight chance at making the playoffs. Injuries and health are key, do we have enough depth to overcome injuries? That is what will make us 9-7, if not we will fall to another 5-11, 6-10 season.

Jags will be better, Titans may not. colts are still potent on offense.

I can buy anywhere from 6 to 10 wins depending on injuries, rookie contributions on D, and the big key - Carr's progression.

If there are no injuries to speak of, and everything else breaks nearly perfectly, a 10 win season is possible. Not going out on that limb though.

If I had to be pinned down, I would say 7-9, or maybe 8-8 at best. We need one more offseason to increase depth, gain experience, etc., then it's off to the playoffs in 05!!!!!!

We start two rookies on defense and our offense needs to get around the middle of the pack instead of worst in the league before we can start talking about playoffs around here. Perhaps it will happen this year but "expecting" one of the worst producing offenses to all of a sudden become a dominant unit in one year is a long road to travel in a tough league. Every team in the NFL has talent. We just need our young guys to continue to grow while we keep adding depth.

Seems like a good time to revisit all our regular season record predicitions without starting a new thread. Based upon the continued improvement of the team but that there is still a ways to go I'm revising my expectations down a little if they do better it would not be unexpected but still viewed as a surprise, like a Christmas bonus. Therefore I'm placing my vote based on pre-season to date-

I don't see a playoff run. David Carr still is going to throw too many picks, hes gonna get better no doubt, but we still need another year or two. 10, 11 wins? Thats some crazy **** lol, that would be lucky, like the Cowboys were last year.

How much money yall spend on a Physic hotline to get all them answers. Even with or talent noone can truly tell how many games we'll win. I mean come on its not like the early 90's where there was ONE dominant team ! Theres so much talent in the NFL that its pretty hard to determine who'll win until the final second of the game, But i still like all the positives yall are giving the texans. And believe me i would like to see them win 10, so i guess we'll find out next sunday what were in stor for this season. Well i just rolled the 8 ball and it said 10 wins (most likely) ???

Our family makes their predictions every year. The first season, I picked it at 4-12. I chose 6-10 last year, so I was one off, but so far, not bad.

This season - I choose 8-8. That's been my prediction for a couple of months, and I'm sticking with it.

San Diego-Win. We continue our opening day win streak.
Detroit-Win. We get the back to back win monkey off our backs right away.
Kansas City-Loss. Too much for us and a very tough place to play.

Minnesota-Loss. We can't cover Randy Moss with the no touch rule.

The Texans are in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. The Colts, Titans, and Jags have some outstanding players on their rosters. Many have stated that the Texans must stay healthy and avoid injuries to compete. That’s true. But what I do like about this division is that these other teams have the same problems regarding defensive depth that the Texans have. Take a look at the backup Colt DBs, Titan LB reserves, or the 2nd team Jag line. Heck, the Jags need to be concerned about who they’ll start at DE.

And I like the depth the Texans now have on offense. Todd Washington & Marcus Spears are as solid veteran reserve O-linemen as any team has. A far cry from what the team had 2 years ago. How can you not be excited about the depth the Texans have at WR? I don’t know how many snaps each guy will get, but I’ll bet that Derik Armstrong gets his share this season. I love the attitude that Mark Bruener brings to this unit. I didn’t realize he had this much game left and he’s the perfect compliment to Miller at TE (and he takes some of the sting out of the Joppru injury). Tony Hollings has made significant progress at RB over the course of the preseason. He can catch the ball out of the backfield, pick up the blitz, and most importantly, hold on to the ball. Hollings is looking like a NFL back and combined with the improved play of Jonathan Wells (Really?) the Texans can survive a week or 2 without DD.

Tony Banks has had a rough preseason. So what? He played so poorly in the Dallas camp a few years ago, they cut him and went with a dope smoking rookie at starting QB. That wasn’t the end of Banks career and he’ll bounce back from these performances as well. Chris Palmer can put in a game plan where Tony can be successful. I’ll still take Banks over half the reserve QBs in this league.

Every year there are a couple of teams that rise up from the NFL’s downtrodden to make the playoffs. Why not the Texans? They’ve got the up & coming star triplets in Carr-Davis-Johnson. They have the defensive genius head coach who’s taken a new team to the playoffs a year ahead of schedule. They have one of the best homefield advantages in the NFL. I see the Texans at 7-6 heading into the Windy City on 12/19. If the Texans can sweep the final 3 games against the Bears, Jags, & Browns, I think they’re playoff bound. I think this offense will be among the best by the end of the season, and guys like Walker, Payne, and Glenn will do what it takes to stay on the field.

I previously predicted 10-6 (with 1 playoff win) and I still feel good about that prediction. I would add that there are probably 20-22 teams that can legitimately predict being one of the 12 teams to make the playoffs. Some of those 22-24 teams will have too many injuries to overcome (like the Texans last year) and some will win/lose a game because of a blown referee call (like the Ravens being handed a game on a blown clock call). A Peyton Mannings, or Steve McNair could be injured week 1. It's impossible to know which teams will be affected and therefore which of the 20-22 teams will actually be 1 of the 12 playoff teams. In other years, the Texans weren't legitimately one of the 22 potential playoff teams.

I believe the Texans will go 3-3 in division and lose in Kansas City and Denver. They will also lose 1 other game.

9-7... No Playoffs.

Hopefully good enuf to make in the playoffs if anything the wild card

considering i originally posted this thread about 2 months ago, its nice to see how many responses there have been. I still stick with my prediction of 8-8 or 9-7.

I'm sorry, did you say beat the Lions in Detroit and lose to the Bears? And unsure about the Browns? Ummm...The Lions are the best of those 3 teams. Carr will have a tough day against one of the best secondaries in the league (Bly, Bryant, Marion), although DD should have a big game.
Can the Texans secondary handle a 4 WR set of Rogers, Williams, Streets, and Hakim? Not being a jerk, just curious. Not to mention KJ and Pinner to keep the LB's honest.

I'm not saying who will win, it could go either way.

But as for the topic of the thread, I see Houston going somewhere between 7 - 9 and 9 - 7, but it's a pretty tough schedule so it's hard to say.

10-6 with a trip to the playoffs. Hopefully they will do better than 10-6. Anything less than the playoffs will be a bad season.

I'll say 9 wins, but they will miss out on the Wild Card because of a tiebreaker of some sort. Next year they'll just win the division to save the trouble.

I don't know guys. I have a really good feeling about this season. I've got that "Great things are possible" feeling and I think I'm going to have to say they win 10 games and with help get a playoff game. If they don't get the help then they stay home.

It's blatantly optimistic homer up the wazoo but I think this is the year we start paying back some of these teams that have been giving us lumps for two seasons. This is the year the project starts paying off. We're looking at the first season of a nice long run IMO. There will be better seasons after this one but this is going to go down as the year it started getting good.

I would be disappointed if we didn't post a 9-7 record in 2004, I could go game by game but suffice to say this.


We played the eventual Super Bowl Champions down to 15 seconds in overtime, we BEAT the NFC Champion.


We took leads into the 4th quarter against the 2 best teams in our division and because of injuries to Defense we lost those games.




We have played some of best teams in AFC and NFC and held our own, we will win a lot of games and if injuries do not hamper us we could be playing for a playoff berth

throughout their brief history ive watched a team that refused to lay down and die despite not having a chance in numerous games...last year ,and in the preseason, ive seen fleeting glimpses of an offense that can be special. carr is the real deal. davis is a superstar waiting to happen. by mid-season this crew will be performing efficiently ,and for the first time this year i expect to see the texans blowout at least 1 team.

but heres the kicker on offense...davis. much like the jags based their success on the health of fred taylor a few years ago...the texans will be dependent upon davis. when hes out of the offense due to injury there is a palitable difference---and every defense we play knows it. hollings will be solid and have the occasional great play ,but he's no substitute for how good our offense can be with davis on the field.

i expect our offense to make a signifigant leap in the overall standings this year.

nonetheless our offense does have questions to answer:

-davis (durability)
-wand
-pitts
-can banks duplicate his steady performance last year if called upon to do so?
-and the ever present question of depth wich would appear more signifigant a problem for the defense then the offense.

as for the defense, we have a lot more questions to answer here.

-and call me paranoid ,but im starting to wonder how come we NEVER seem to get consistent pressure on the opposing qb. (yeah i know their are a number of legit reasons)...but the worry i have is maybe teams have caught up with some of capers schemes. i know its premature to think that considering the circumstances of last season...but...its a thought i have.

i think the defense will make a mild improvment. robinson will be burned more then a few times this year ,but i think overall we will be poised to have a top 15 type defense in 2005. i'm just not buying it this year. to many players have something to prove ,and yes, i think one of our d-linemen will go down early and miss 3-5 games.

i think this will be the titans last playoff year.
indy's offseason was unimpressive and their defense is still suspect.
the jags will be our biggest competition for the playoffs in 2 years...

i see us splitting the division 3-3. with a solid swan song to end the year...

so whats my prediction?

we have the talent to make the playoffs ,but we dont have the talent to TAKE a playoff spot. if we make it to the post season it will be due to some outside circumstance such as an injury to a key player(s) in our division. or perhaps, a miracle season of our own with no signifigant injuries...(highly doubtfull)

I refuse to look at this team through Steel Blue Glasses, but I really beleive we will remain on of the healthier teams in the league, thus making a slight push for the playoffs. The Texans will remind a lot of people of the Bengals of 2003-2004, but will look to have a brighter future. The Texans go 8-8, with upset wins over the Packers, Colts, and finally beat the Titans! If the cards fall the right way, the Texans can squeek out a 9-7 record and wild card birth!

I think that is pretty close to correct but I would switch Green Bay and 2nd Tennessee to get my 8-8.

I agree Vinny, man I hope some of you do not trip over your feet with all the stars in your eyes. Hey I am hopeful but think 7 & 9 would be outstanding. In 3-4 defense, Payne & Walker are going to get beat up and neither are 100% yet anyway. We have seen no rush from line or backers and Dunte will get lit up like like a cheap stogie cause he will be all alone most of the time. Coleman will adjust in time & hopefully will get to some of the receivers that Robinson misreads. Brown will be close to the line to help backers stop run. I keep hearing there were 2 or 3 losses that could have been wins last season. Well 2 or 3 wins could have been losses. I hope you guys are right & I am wrong. Remember, this was supposed to be a building year with playoffs in 4th year.

Well, I have been right the first two years. I predicted right on this MB 4-12 and 5-11 the last two years. So, I suggest you heed Porkydomus' prediction.

I am not as optimistic as most. I tend to see things how they are, and not how I want them. I am what is known in the prediction biz as a realist soothsayer. And now, removing toungue from cheek, my offical 2004 Texans record prediction:

Improvement on offense may be dramatic, putting the Texans toward the middle of the pack offensively. This time, it's the defense that lags. Too many new faces, lack of pass rush, depth and injury concerns, etc. The defense will finish bewteen 25-and 30th best, while the offense will finish 14th to 19th, with the left side of the line still a concern. All in all, the future looks bright indeed for our men in Steel Blue.

i'll go with 8-8.

I say 7-9 as well. We get a wild card spot next season and and win a playoff game losing in a divisional game. By the 2007 season we win our division and start to dominate making the Super Bowl in 2008 in Arizona and winning it vs. Redskins 23-15!!

A 7-9 record would have been outstanding in the 1st year, or even last year with all of the injuries. A 7-9 record in '04 would be little more than OK. It would probably mean that the Texans either had more injury problems or did a mediocre job of evaluating the incoming talent. I don't think the Texans spend the money they did in free agency, or go for quality over quantity in the draft, if they didn't believe there was an opportunity for the postseason this year.

I don't "remember" where Casserly or Capers said that the Texans couldn't get to the playoffs in year 3. Could you refresh my memory?

I'll predict that the Texans go 8-8 or 9-7. There's an outside chance at winning a WildCard, but I think we'll likely miss out this season. We will probably be in contention towards the end of the year, but we will play the role of spoiler for some teams.

I wouldn't be shocked if this team won 10 games, but I think 8-8 is about the best we can expect. Expecting anything more is unfair to them. I would still be proud of them, if they only went 7-9. Anything less than that will be a dissappointment, but who knows what injuries will occur. By week 4, this team could be without Seth Payne AND Dominick Davis. Who knows, at that time, Carr might even have some temporary problem. I just hope they improve some every year until they make the playoffs--and hopefully win at least the first round. That would be great.

Remember, every team has injuries every year. It's gonna happen. Let's just hope it's not certain guys that we need in there the most.

OK Porkydomus, your 7-9 prediciton is still intact (all the rest of you as well) my predicition of 8-8 required defeating those lightening bolts. Oh well maybe they will surprise somewhere else, like KC to make up for it

I see the Texans headed for a HUGE season making a run for the playoffs.

After the first loss this year is the opening game, I see the record turning for the better. They will fight hard and though Robinson will get burned a few times we will come out of it with a winning record at about 10-6.

The rook can only get better. How much worse can you get than tripping over thin air? He can only get better from this point.
