The value of Bradford

jmantexfan

Practice Squad
The Eagles desperately need a WR, and we have quite a few potentially good ones. I am curious what Corey Bradfords stock is looking like. What kind of trade value does he possess? Could we get a first or second round pick in exchange for him? IMO, if we are venturing onto the side of youth over experience than we should trade him if we can benefit and let Mathis take the 2 spot. Only concern is can Armstrong or Starling back him up at 2. If Mathis takes the 2 spot, ould it be best for us to keep Bradford as a solid back-up 2 or let one of the other youngsters have a crack at that too.

I just think that a team who needs a quality WR and knows of Bradfords experience and success with GB (because he has not had as much success here) might give a high draft pick or some trade of high value.

He has little to no trade value. The guy couldnt get a contract from anyone during the offseason so he signed on for another year here. A first round pick??? That's funny. Plus Palmer or Capers on SR610 this morning said that Bradford is having his best training camp since coming here. I dont think we can release Bradford. He maybe inconistent but I like him and you cant go into the season with 2 possesion receivers and a guy coming out for a 2nd-tier division in college and hope to keep pressure of AJ...

He hasnt been a be-all-end-all-player here, but Bradford has had some success...

If the Eagles wanted someone equal to Corey Bradford's talents they can probably just follow the waver wire.

If a team is desperate, and believes bradford might compliment a #1 they wont give up a second rounder to tyy and save the season. Look at Philly, all they really have is TO, they need someone now. OK of not a second round what about a third and then again would it be more valuable to keep him for depth and experience. I just dont think he has been working out here and we have tons of good depth at WR.

They have T.O. and the rookie from Georgia Reggie Brown.

Reggie Brown > Pinkston and Fred-Ex

If thats the case and he repeats last years perfomance we ouldnt even get a 7th round pick for him. If bluntly we cannot get even a 3rd round pick for him now, there is no way he is good enough for our # 2 spot.

As Vinny, me, and many other people on this board have said, the #2 WR spot will be by committe. Depending on the matchups and situations, a different guy will be playing #2. And plus, we use the 3-WR set more than anything so the #2 guy on the depth chart doesnt mean anything...

They just played the Palmer clip again:
"Bradford is having his best camp since he has been here and a lot of people like to rip Gaffney but he had 21 receptions on 3rd down last year, all converted to 1st downs"
Almost word-for-word

Why is it that people constantly want to get high picks for players they don't value themselves?

Will you buy my used shoes for $100? They are still wearable and you could use a pair. I just don't need them any more. Granted they are worth about $10, but will you give me $100 for them?

Well...in Madden I traded Bradford for a 2nd & 3rd round pick. Then I traded those picks for a 1st rounder (silly Bengals!). I took that 1st round pick and got Ray Lewis! :whoohoo:

What do you mean "It'll never happen"?

You might want to cut back on whatever it is your smoking. Bradford has virtually zero trade value. Maybe a conditional 6th or 7th, but I doubt you would even get that for him. He is worth more to us this year than what a 7th rounder would bring. He either makes the team out of camp (extremely likely) or we cut him, and the Eagles can take him off the waiver wire.

I'd take cash and a conditional 7th rounder just to be done with him and let Armstrong get out there and do his thing. Bradford seems to catch everything in practice but can't catch a cold in a game that counts.

He had some catches but he really disappears when he's needed most. I bet he got covered by a SS most of last year. Bradford simply does not step up and deliver game to game. He has great half-seasons not great seasons. Let one of the young guys get out there and do their thing.

If we were to get ANYTHING like a 4th or better for Bradford, it would be the STEAL of the off season. CC would the GM of the year award for pulling it off.

It wasnt Bradford's fault he disappeared. It was the O-line's fault for not giving Carr enough time to make his reads. Carr's read was AJ then Davis. Davis had more passes thrown his way last year than Bradford. Don't put that all on Bradford...

IMO if a team in need were to consider the success he had in GB and the possibility that maybe he may regain that success in a differnet system, i see it as not too far out of wack for that team(in need of course) to take a gamble on him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. remember, i am talking about a team in need, who already has most of the pieces to the puzzle but need a WR now. I think Bradford went on his journey in search of a big long term deal and was not able to get it. I dont think the eagles will mind giving up a 3rd rounder for a compliment to TO and a chance to win the SB. it wont happen with just TO. Im just rambling now. but realistically if a team is badly in need you dont think any might place value on a veteran reciever with speed who can step in immediately. I mean, alot has changed since Bradford went off in search of a new team and returned. People are hurt, and some lost for long times. teams will need to fill holes and will pay the price to do so. Again with Philly, they had no need for a WR a couple of months ago but now they are hurtin. if mathis and bradford look good in preseason than bradfords stock rises but would it still be worth it for us to trade him if he impresses?

If were in the jungle with no shoes and no shoes available but your old ones and I had a 100 bucks. HELL YES! Things are worth what people will pay for them. Was Henson really worth a 3rd rounder?

and after we trade Bradford to the Eagles for a 1st round pick, we can send Hollings to the Jaguars for their 1st round pick. After that we can trade a 7th round pick to the Ravens for Todd Heap. :pigfly:

Until Parcells gives him a chance we will never know.
From what I read (IIRC) Parcells wasn't a fan of trading for Henson.

Same holds true for a player like Hollings. Who btw i never said we could get a #1 for. We drafted him 3, it would be nice to get a 3 or 4. Or anyting! It would be nice to find out THIS year. Make or break. It is unlikely Davis will start every game this year. My hopes are Hollings gets the nod at #2 HB. I think the kid deserves a chance.

I'm not a big fan of the "he disappears when he's needed most" angle when it comes to the Texans. It's the story of our offense in our short existence but it doesn't do the individual players justice. You literally cannot say that Bradford, Gaffney, or even at times AJ "disappears when he's needed most" like you would talk about Rober Horry doing his vanishing act back in his Rocket days. It's not the same thing.

To begin with Corey Bradford was a significant part of our offense in 2002 (pre AJ) and that came with Carr going down 76 times and no running game. When AJ got here Bradford took a back seat but it wasn't any different then the back seat that Jabar Gaffney and Avion Black took in 2002. There's only so much time for the rookie, then second year QB to read the D and throw the ball. In the Texans case there was even less time than that in 2002-2003. Primary reciever gets the look and then it's safety valve or run for your life.

If you want to accuse a guy of disappearing in a situation like that then be my guest but it's not right.

We have yet to see a QB have a) time, b) targets, and c)patience all together at one time.

When Carr has time to throw (IMO we'll see that this season), quality recievers to throw to (IMO we have that right now), and the patience/maturity to not go from primary to dump off without seeing the rest of the options then we're going to be cooking with fire.

There's nothing wrong with Bradford. He's fast, pretty reliable, and he works hard to get better. I don't think he's got trade value right now outside of a 4-5 maybe. Now if you are the Eagles and TO goes down for the season in training camp then I could see you talking a 3rd for Bradford.

They're not that hard up for a reciever yet though.

Speaking of this team that would be willing to give us a 2nd for Bradford, do you think they might be interested in three magic beans to up it to a 1st?

You have obviously not read this thread. He has 0 trade value. The guy was a FA and couldnt get a one year deal from anyone.

And you have to have a couple of speed guys or AJ will get no room...

i have been reading this thread. what i meant was if the younger recievers do well in training camp, then why not get rid of his salary, free up space for the younger guys, and get a 7th round draft pick?

Cause his salary counts against this years cap and there are no FA out there to sign so there is no need to free cap space.

Mathis is a guy coming out of Division II in college. It's a big jump from D-II to the NFL. Camp is different then the reg. season.

Armstrong is a possesion guy, works in the slot with Gaff.

If you go into the season with only Armstrong, Gaff and Mathis will have so many problems getting AJ open. Pass Mathis there is no speed so no way to strech the field and Mathis isnt a sure thing.

At the time Bradford resigned with the Texans it was reported he had another offer (I believe it was even for more money) and he decided to come back to Houston. Not saying there was a huge market for him, but he wouldn't have been unemployed like Mack, Stevens, etc.

Yeah, wasnt it with the Lions??? But like you said there wasnt that big of a market for him.

Bad word choice on my part. I shouldnt have said 'anyone.'

It was kind of vague. There were reports of interest by the Lions and then a report of an offer by another team--most folks assumed it was the Lions, but who knows. In any event, small market, but a market of two is a big step up from a market of zero.

I guess everybody who's not an Eagles fan has forgotten about Greg Lewis, the guy who played well last year in the playoffs, and caught a touchdown in the Super Bowl. Andy Reid was asked about having him as the second receiver and he said "We have a lot of confidence in Greg Lewis that was developed over last season... We've all seen what he can do and we know he'll step up and do a heck of a job." When he was asked if the team needs help at receiver, he said "We're fine."

ok i specified the eagles too much earlier, but truth is, alot of teams will develop new and pressing needs between now and the reg season. the eagles just happen to have lost a step at reciever now.

Ok heres the deal. The TO situation seems to be getting out of hand, and recievers from varous clubs going though injuries. Forget about Bradford, weve established that his trade value is nada. Does anyone think that with our abundance of young talent at WR, that by the end preseason another club might find value in any of our WR's? If so who would be the best candidate for us to trade? could we get a 3rd round pick for any of them. What if we gave up either banks or ragone, and one of our recievers, might we have a chance at getting a 2nd or 1st rounder for a backup QB and a #3 or potential #2 WR. I think in the next draft we have our 1st round selection but not a second(please let me know if im mistaken)but with 2 1st rounders or a 1st and 2nd next year we can scoop up a franchise LT and a solid #2 WR if none of the guys on the sqaud flourish this season. i just keep hearing that this season we will have to cut a couple of guys who are pretty good, and i think if one puts on a good show in preseason we should try and make the most out of it.
