Dunta Robinson on his last season with the Texans

Last season with the Texans, Robinson had his moments. Holding out in a contract dispute, he was the only franchise player in the NFL not to sign a deal before training camp. Consequently, Robinson missed all of the preseason. The two sides failed to reach a multi-year agreement, settling on a one-year, $9.9 million deal in time for the season opener. Hardly starvation wages. Still, for that first game, Robinson dressed up his shoes with a handwritten message for Houston GM Rick Smith that read, “Pay Me Rick.”

“That marriage was over before the season started,” Robinson said.

In reviewing film of Robinson’s play last season, Lewis said he noticed no drop-off as a result of the strained relationship. Still, last season was the first in his pro career without an interception. Averaging 86 tackles in the previous three seasons in which he played all 16 games, Robinson had 64 last year.

Robinson’s father admitted that the dispute last season weighed on his boy. Conversely, now that all is happiness and light, “You’ll see that old Dunta,” Willie Robinson promised.

You sucked given every chance to prove otherwise, to prove you were actually worth that big ass deal you got from the chump franchise in Georgia. Move to Atlanta, believe me we're ALL fine with it but own your little-girl-esque bitching and own your extremely middle of the pack CB skills/performance.

I wonder how different it would of been, if say, he caught it, ran it back for a TD.

Or caught it, we did a clock-controlling drive to finish the game.

Won that game.

And made the playoffs.

Here's hoping the "Young" Kareem Jackson makes us forget about the "Old" Dunta Robinson.

And this just in - Falcons Fan called and said he prefers to not have the word "Old" associated in any way shape or form with his starting cornerback.

If he had done anything like that, he would have been a hero, but there wasn't a single play he made all season that won the Texans a game. He was a decent cornerback, but there was nothing outstanding about him this year.
 
And there goes the last smidgen of respect I had remaining for Robinson out the window. Just shut your mouth and play football, chump.

It is quotes like this that make you realize that fans don't know jack squat half the time about the locker room. Yeah alot of us thought Dunta was a selfish ahole that disrupted the team with his shoe message, but many also thought that the team was behind him despite it. Overall the guy basically knew he didn't want to be here. You have a few of those guys a year and that brings a team down. You just never know what is going through guys heads.

That's correct, the drop off was the result of injury, lack of Training camp and speed he never possesed in the first place.

To hell with you Dunta. I wont miss seeing you whiffing on tackles and interceptions. I'm upset that I actually cheered for you in the first game of the season when you decided to show up.
 
The play that ticked me off real good was not just the dropped INT. That can happen at times, and is most likely the reason he plays defense. The one that does it for me was when he knocked the crap out of Addai and immediately turned around to let everyone know that he made the hit. Only problem was he didn't knock the ball loose and he forgot he was playing Peyton Manning who then sees Dunta celebrating so he walks up to the huddle hikes the ball and chuck a 48 yarder down field to start clinching yet another Colts win.

That play absolutly made me sick. It's not like he even did anything. He made a tackle for a 8 yard gain. Thats a minus play.

Yes, that event ranks high on my list of unforgettable moments in my football viewing experiences. I recall the tackle and celebration although it was on the other side of the field, but what caught my attention the most was how quickly Manning got everybody lined up and threw that bomb. How embarrassing.
 
How appropriate that the guy (Dunta) who ragged on David Carr with little cryptic soundbites after a game, is now in the same shoes as Carr: Throwing his former team under the bus once he's left the Texans.

Signing Dunta to that final year was every bit of the mistake as Carr's last year here. He did not provide any sort of boost that could have made a positive difference throughout the season.

Note to owner: Sometimes, your boy scouts need to find a new club house sooner rather than later.
 
For yalls sake I hope that Dunta has a horrible career in ATL cause if he does well, I have a feeling some of yall are going to commit suicide.

You guys are being too kind to ol' #23. The cherry on that **** sundae was Dunta totally whiffing on the tackle at the end of the Collie run after the catch.

Ironically I feel the same way about Dunta as I did when David Carr left. Yeah it's possible he goes to ATL and plays lights out and that could be just being used differently in a scheme that suits his skills better.

I can live with that. What I couldn't live with is paying the guy top dollar like ATL and having him be a team cancer because he didn't want to be here and play mediocre football.

Truth be told it was just time for both parties to part ways. It's just too bad it couldn't be done a year prior.

to follow up above post, seems he's feeding himself alright with new owner.

It's only OTA season. Games that count are still three-plus months away. But the Falcons like what they see from their massive investment thus far.

"(Robinson is) very coachable," secondary coach Tim Lewis told PFW. "He's affable, amiable, but serious. Tough-minded. When it gets down to the football stuff, he's instinctive. He has unbelievably gifted feet and hips. His natural defensive back ability is fantastic. We're thrilled and fortunate to have him. The leadership that he brings is fantastic.

Since I believe the Falcons run a 4-3, the nickel back many times has a significant responsibility of keeping up with the slot receiver in deeper routes. Last season, Dunta had his share of missed tackles with his man in front of him. If he misses, his long speed deficit will still be a significant limitation for him in that capacity, and a problem for the Falcons. We'll just have to wait and see. But I doubt regrets to his moving on will be the conclusion.

no, because its clearly all about bank.

still to be considered elite his turnover rate must increase to justify contract. I consider the tandem of Smith & Dimitroff a tie @ this juncture to Smith & Kubiak. it will be intersting to see which system or maybe both thrive moving forward, very similar.

So here is the bottom line: Dunta fits both systems, there is no salary cap this year, but sure expect one next year after the collective bargining agreement is hammered out. Doesn't this over time, give the Texans an advanage under said new salary cap? I really feel this is at the crux of issue & the Texans chose to go one way while Falcons another.

In retrospect, the Texans could have just as easily not made the playoffs without Robinson. Hindsight is...
