So, it seems that the rams safety is not going to sign his free agent tender, therefor (if I understand this right) he should become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. I am making this thread for a little fun, so we are going to assume that he does become a free agent. If that is the case, would you want the Texans to make a move to sign him?

Kinda depends on what it would take. The rams can keep him by paying him 110% of last years salary. If he wants too much and the Texans feel confidant in what they got; then no. But, it would be sweet having OJ & Pollard on the back end...

Are you kidding me? Could you imagine him, pollard, cushing, ryans, williams, and if barwin does as good as i think he will this year how great our D would be? Ok this isent funny, you shouldnt of started this thread.

Can someone confirm that he becomes an unrestricted free agent if he doesn't sign his tender? Seems a little sketchy to me... Why would anyone ever sign their tender if this were the case??

This doesn't make sense to me, either. I'm guessing this is unique to the lowest tender level. I know for a fact that there is nothing OD can do to become an unrestricted FA until he's completed six years in the NFL... He hasn't signed his tender either.

OJ Atogwe had major knee surgery over the offseason I believe and there's questions surrounding his speed and ability to ever play again which is why he never signed his tender and he's been mentioned in trade rumors.

Atogwe underwent major right shoulder reconstruction (rotator cuff) following a severe dislocation injury at the end of last season. Most people don't know it, but he had rehabbed from a previous partial rotator cuff tear on that same shoulder a couple years ago. His recovery, especially as a safety, are a big question mark both from a short term and long term perspective. On top of that, ESPN reported that, despite the Rams denying it, he is fighting through another problem.........a sports hernia (remember Joppru?). So there is reason for the Ram's apparent hesistance............which should also carry with it a big "Buyer Beware" sign.

I believe the Rams can increase his RFA tender (by 110% or $7 million for 2010) and retain first refusal rights. But, they have to make that move today.

Atogwe had shoulder surgery and has a rumored sports hernia. Nothing on his knee.

With AJ and OD still awaiting contract extensions, I can't see the Texans handing out a big deal to an UFA. Especially one that may not be able to participate in training camp. The teams that missed out on Darren Sharper in free agency (Jacksonville, Miami) may have the most interest in Atogwe.

Ok. Well that makes sense that the Rams are wary.

I thought it was the other way around?

That the Rams were going to let the tender offer expire. Seems like they low-balled the tender enough to keep him around to see if he would be healthy going into next year and there's still some questions about that happening.

Admittedly I could be wrong though.

Still no news on Atogwe:

As of 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, the status of St. Louis Rams safety Oshiomogho Atogwe remained undetermined. The team has until 11 tonight to sign Atogwe to a long-term contract, pay him a one-year tender of $6,976,000 or allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Apparently, the Rams and Atogwe’s agent, Ken Landphere, are still in talks.
