Pollard growls alot!?!

Hagar

Drink up yall, its the Texans!
If you haven't read TC's new article "Are the Texans toast? KC Joyner talks cornerbacks", you should. It has TC's usual good coverage of the Texans but the part I like the best comes at the end when she gives her observation/insight into the Texans' OTAs:

"Interesting, from my observation of OTAs, safety Bernard Pollard has assumed the role of leader of the secondary now that Dunta Robinson is gone. First in line with each drill, and doing his practice with authority (he makes you feel sorry for tackling sleds).

And well, this is hard to explain, but he growls a lot. He makes growling dog noises. Almost like he is alpha dog keeping the pups in check. It's a bit peculiar but if it works, I don't care."

Sounds like he's taking Dunta's and Alex Gibbs place at the same time.

Good stuff TC.

I was always a Dunta fan... Even after the holdout last off-season, I liked the idea of potentially franchising him again after the '09 season. But, after watching the '09 season, it became very clear that he simply isn't any good (I think he was before the injury- at times). So, I'm actually very excited about the secondary play this year. I think we have a good shot at much improved DB play with the group being brought in and the addition by subtraction of Dunta. I think a healthy Pollard is crucial, though.

Yeah, it is hard to get much out of OTAs because they are trying things out and are just wearing shorts, but it was hard to not notice Pollard. Maybe I just caught him on a growlie day or something.

At first I was, "did I just hear that?" And then he kept doing it. And he'd growl at what he was doing, and growl at what other players did.

Dunta Robinson - 69 att, 582 yds, 8.4 YPA, YPA ranked 77th in league - losing Robinson is not a huge loss, as these totals are similar to what he has put up his entire career"

77th out of 100 is pretty poor for a franchise corner. Maybe it is a good thing that we let him walk.

The PFF links are even uglier. But then again, I had some other numbers that suggested that more often than not he faced the #1 wide receiver. Let's see what happens to the other guy's numbers when they face #1s. It will be interesting to see if rookie gets targeted. Some NFL games you can pretty much predict where the ball is going to go based on where/who the corners are.

I think that's great that pollard is bringing this kind of intensity at the ota's. Think about if we had him last year at the beginning of the season.
I think jackson will definatly do better than DR did in 09.

Hopefully having a whole training camp with the team helps Pollard out given how well he played barely knowing his teammates.

Either that, or the heat will give him dead legs by the start of the season.

Pollard played with passion and made plays
hopefully he settles in as a Texan in the future but he has only played like 12 games as a Texan.

Either way we still didn't address the FS position
if Busing even gets one snap at FS somebody should be fired
and we have the whole losing your #1 corner over $$
is our team better? I don't see it.

More question marks than last year
IMHO

Busing is NOT on the roster.

Did not want to start a new thread, but I had to post this quote for posterity.

"You have to be a nasty player on defense. You have to hit people and love to hit people. That's our motto. We're going to knock them down and keep knocking them down. We're going to be relentless and run to the ball. That's our attitude."
- LB DeMeco Ryans, on the mentality of the Texans' defense

LOL leave it to Texan Bill tell someone to go get a prostitute or find a massege with a happy ending. :spin:

Ya know the ongly thing I regret about that post was that I typed "message" instead of 'massage'.... I caught it a couple of minutes later, but I think it was too late....

Whoa!!!! WTH does that mean "Leave it to Bill"? :D
