If Matt Schaub gets a sprained pinky toe, can Orlovsky step in and win 1 game? I ask this because Im under the impression that Matt may stub a toe in the kitchen and Texans miss the playoffs. Every year many teams miss playoffs because of 1 game. If Matt misses 1 game, it might be the difference in making or missing playoffs.

I still cant figure out why this team will not draft a qb in 1-3 rounds .

Schaub ain't got a small nizzle. He's a tough football player.

Hmm.

Rex beat out Dan O for #2 job. Rex played in one of the Jacksonville games, looked horrific. What, if anything, is that to say about Dan O? I'll just say, I think we're in trouble if Dan O. sees the field in the reg. season. Unless of course it's a "blowout" or we're resting players late in the season.

Is this a serious post?

Yes, I think with the offense around Dan O, he could win a game.

Carr won games with almost no surrounding cast, now the team has Johnson, Jones, Walter, Tate and Slate, Daniels, and a lot of good little role players.

The poll is too black and white. There needs to be a "couple wins, but won't lead us to the promise land" option.

From what I've seen, I would say no. Dan Orlovsky cannot win a game. He could manage a game where his team plays well enough to win. But, being the difference maker in a NFL game? I don't think so.

I'm disappointed that Kubiak couldn't find a young QB to groom out of this (or any other) draft. Other than his physical gifts, I don't see what he sees in Dan Orlovsky. And I think it could spell disaster if Schaub is out for multiple games (with this schedule). Which is why I'm secretly hoping that Favre returns to Minnesota, and the Vikings find it in their heart to trade Rosenfels back to the Texans.

Oops. I guess it's not a secret anymore.

Yeah, I couldn't vote just for that reason...

It needs a "I think he can win a game, but we still need to find someone with more upside at that position".

I think Dan O. is our QB for Gary to groom. I think Smithiak thinks Schaub can hold it together while O. gets more training & experience in the Texans system. The GM saw enough to offer the guy a pretty decent amount of moolah to ride the bench. So far Kubes is 0-1 on Texans QBs he thought he could improve. At least the present one will not be as expensive if he does not get it together.

How about an honest poll choice? Nobody has any idea if he's good, bad or indifferent. The Lions could make anyone look bad and we've never handed him the reigns in THIS offense. It's a crapshoot.

Orlovsky has a cannon....unfortunately he will forever be known as the guy who gave himself a safety.

Yes. There are doormats every year and there's enough surrounding talent to to carry a bad QB through a win against an awful team.

The pooll needs a choice like, "yes he can win a game in the NFL, but I wouldn't want him to be the starter or anything."

Runoutofboundski has a good arm, but has his time under Kubiak given him the ability to use it wisely? Unless they bring in a veteran QB to back up Schaub, he's our number 2 guy and will see a lot of action in preseason. We'll know more then.

Last year we took Cushing at 15, Connor Barwin at 46 and Antoine Caldwell at 77. The QBs taking between 15 and 77 were at 17, Josh Freeman and at 44 Pat White. Not anyone worth drafting at 15 over Cushing.

This season we needed a starting CB, a starting RB, and a rotational DT a lot more than a guy that should be on the bench for a few years.

Your concern about Orlovsky is justified, but signing a veteran FA is the safe way to go. Someone like Mark Bulger.

Schaub is only 28, and coming into his prime, a top 100 pick at QB would be wasted for another year or two. But a last day pick next year would be OK IMO.

I think that it is very likely that after the OTA's, if Kubiak is not convinced that the backup qb is on the roster, then he will sign on of the vets out there.

Runoutofboundski has a good arm,....

No, you're thinking of his brother. This is about Outofendzonesky.

To answer the original question - yes I think he can win one... but let's wait till after this upcoming "make or break" season to find out, shall we?

I think the question should be, can the team win with Dan-O at QB...

Dan isn't going to win any games, but I think that the team around him is good enough to win with Dan playing a game or two.

I will file this thread in the same place I'll file the inevitable "Orlovsky should start" thread that will surface sometime between game 2 of the preseason, and the regular season opener.

Outofendzonesky LOL

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they signed a free agent QB for help. However, if they do, that only means they don't think whateversky is ready to step in if something happens to Schaub. And that will prompt more Kubiak can't sign good free agents threads. That alone makes me wish waterboysky makes good this season.

#7 may be the only option at backup.

Unless of course if you want Patrick Ramsey? Maybe Jeff Garcia? Or JaMarcus Russell as a reclamation project? I'm kidding on that last one.

First, I think it is unlikely that we win every game Schaub is going to play in. So if we miss the play-offs because of one game, how are we going to choose which one game did it?

Unless of course we lose to the Jets. That would be obvious.

... (Dan) said this midway through last year - with Kubes, just being around him for a year and getting a feel for him from Matt, he's either going to make you good or you're going to realize you're not good enough.”

First-year quarterbacks coach Greg Knapp has his answer. After watching every throw Orlovsky has uncorked as a Texan - including tape of last year's training camp and preseason - Knapp is encouraged.

“No doubt, he has a chance to be a very successful quarterback in this league,” Knapp said. “In defense of him, this is the first time he's had the same offense in back-to-back years. What I'm seeing out of him this year is the decisiveness of his decisions. The ball is getting out quicker....

I think it's hard to say.

I went ahead and voted yes because I don't think he'll have to win a game or games by HIMSELF. I think there's a good amount of weapons on the offense and IF, big IF we get production out of the running game it becomes a whole lot easier for Dan to step in if need be.

I think no matter what happens we'll be bringing in a third QB at some point this offseason. Personally I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on Garcia.

There are just so many reasons why the first post sucked...concerned about Orlovsky is fair but c'mon...

Matt Schaub, by the way, just proved himself as capable of starting 16 games. Don't even act like I just called him Brett Favre, I'm just saying pulling that card out right now is poorly timed. Matt Schaub is a damn good QB so root for him or keep sippin' the haaaater-aaaaade and lookin' like a foooooot with ya pants on the ground!!!!

Dan O is a backup level QB in this league. He'll never be a starter again but look at the team he played on. Poop team deluxe. He's a big, strong guy and has done nothing but learn for a year and a half under Kubiak the great. As far as backup QBs go, you can't really ask for much more than that. Yeah, if he comes in we'll all be tensing up a bit but there's as much reason to believe he'll be worse than Rex Grossman as there is to think he'll be better than Sage.

Oh and the Texans spent 2 2nd round picks recently on a QB....some guy....you may have heard of him.....

Thank god someone said it.....

Isn't John David Booty still on the roster? Seems like he has some upside if Orlovsky doesn't pan out.
