TEXANS SIGN TRAVIS

A league source tells us that the Houston Texans have reached agreement on a contract with first-round draft pick Travis Johnson.

Johnson, a defensive tackle from Florida State, will get $7.7675 million in guaranteed money on a contract worth $10.2 million. Escalators and other devices can nudge the value up by another $4.375 million.

The Texans open training camp on Sunday, and have yet to fail to get a draft pick under contract before the start of preseason practice.

Here is the cut and paste from these guys. Those not familar with this outfit needs to understand that they are the premier football RUMOR site in the NFL. Until you see it somewhere else be a little apprehensive.

Is anyone else suprised that only 11 1st round picks have signned?
someone posted a week or so ago that more than likely a lot of the first round picks wouldn't be signed because of the CBA with the NFL was going one.. I may be wrong on that too so someone might need to back me up

as far as i can tell his contract is all speculation, until i see ESPN, Texans confirmation i'll assume he's still holding out.

did you see the link from post #7

Good news. Glad to hear it. Now he just have to show he is worth the pick and help add stability to our D-line. Welcome aboud Mr. Johnson. :highfive:

Charlie C was on Channel 13 at 6:30 and would not confirm the signing. It sounds like one of those "agree in principle" things and Johnson was on his way to the stadium to go over the details with his agent and CC. CC hoped to have an "official" release in time for the 10pm newscasts.

Now thats strange. Tim Melton of Channel 13 was reporting he had signed and will be on hand for the seond workout Saturday night!

Well, I propose to look on the bright side. Clear the Decks. Strip the ship for action. Lets go to war!!

The texans are extremely conservative in annoucing signings and such. In fact, usually not only has the player signed but the contract has been approved by the league, etc. when they announce offically.

Finally, a full house

The Texans’ first holdout didn’t exactly match the recent staredowns of, say, Philip Rivers and the Chargers or Kellen Winslow, Jr., and the Browns. Defensive end Travis Johnson missed just two practices. To the coaching staff, that’s two too many, but considering Johnson is just the 10th of 32 2005 first-round picks to sign, neither party can be too disappointed.

Johnson inked his contract Saturday night while the Texans were wrapping up their first two-a-day across the street from Reliant Stadium. Johnson was the lone Texan absent from today's sessions but he’ll be on those same fields tomorrow for a 3 p.m. practice. “We’re happy the process is done and we’re excited to have Travis in camp,” general manager Charley Casserly said.

Johnson, the 16th overall selection and the first defensive tackle taken, is expected to be a major part of Houston’s defensive line rotation, even though he’s new to the 3-4 scheme. “We certainly like his intensity and the passion he has for the game,” head coach Dom Capers said. “You have to have that up front. You have to be a tough guy and an aggressive guy to play up front. So it’ll be interesting to see how fast Travis picks up the system because we certainly think he has ability to add to our football team.” That process begins in earnest Sunday. You can bet Johnson's motor will be humming.

At about 7:45 p.m., I saw him on the field in shorts and a t-shirt yukking it up with his linemates
