31 teams made the mistake -- Adrian McPherson

When they didn't pick Adrian Mcpherson.

This guy was the best QB prospect of the past 2 NFL drafts. Because of his experience and questions about his character (that he pretty much as answered) he slips all the way to the 5th round?

Man, my Lions even took a QB that wasn't Adrain in that round, I know that one is going to hurt in a few years.

Lets see

Strong Arm - 70 yard flat footed passes - Check
Accuracy- he can make all the throws all over the field on any route, on any pass. And put them right where the WR can get it, combine that with his lighting fast release rate.
Decision Making- You have to spend alot of time looking through game tape to see this kid making interceptions. I think he has a grand total of 6 interptions in 2 years of differnet levels of football, with 75 touchdowns. Most of that inflated by AFL, but 14 -1 in a few college games ain't shabby either.

Size 6'3' 220 ish
Speed- 4.5 footspeed
Scrambling ability? You bet he has it
Pocket Prescence- Best of his draft class

What does he lack? Experience.

I just got this feeling in 2 years everyone will be doing one of these

I agree many teams are going to be upset they passed on him, but we already have one of the most athletic qbs under center and have promising back ups behind him, so for us to grab him in the 5th would of been a reach. Unless we were going to work out another henson trade.

You barely touch on it in your post, but all the talent in the world won't do McPherson any good if he doesn't straighten himself out. More and more, NFL coaches and GMs are realizing that these immensely talented guys who are also immensely dumb and lack character are simply not worth the time and effort. Bill Belichick is, in my opinion, the trend-setter of the NFL, and he'll have nothing to do with guys like McPherson who have questionable pasts and have done little but show poor judgement and a lack of common sense.

Guys can turn it around... Irving Fryar comes to mind as an example... but more often than not, they never reach their potential because they're unable to conduct themselves with professionalism and dignity. There are far more examples of these *****s self-destructing than there are of them turning their lives around.

Don't fall in love with talent. Talent's great, and it's the building block of any football player, but it's not even half the story. There's a reason this guy McPherson was toiling in the Arena League (actually two reasons... one was larceny, the other was illegal gaming). There's no way he was worth risking anything higher than a 5th round pick.

I've got to dissagree with that statement. From what we can see now, it LOOKS like he has wised up and matured and has a load of talent. A team with an aging QB (GB?) would have been VERY smart IMO to have picked him up and given him a year maybe two to get with the NFL program. A 3rd or even a 2nd would not have been unreasonable for this guy at this time in his development. Given the right situation this kid will likely be a very good QB for someone.

Most of the negative sentiment about his character is usually by people who can't get over FSU. He has done nothing since then. He by all accounts is a good kid.

Yeah, whatever the Pats do is the gold standard, I keep forgettng that guys like David Terrell are good character people.

Belichick was handed a Veteran team only a few years removed from the superbowl in the first place. Now what he does do that is innovative, is replace vets, with new vets. Lose Lawyer Milloy? Get Rodney Harrison, lose a superbowl CB like Ty Law, go pick up Starks, lose Bruschi, pick up Chad Brown.

But guys like Terrell and Corey Dillion didn't come to the Patriots with good reputations. Corey was blown out of proportion, but Terrell is the Real McCoy as far problems go.
Lions even won a game in 2004 because Terrell can't stop getting personal fouls.

McPhereson made some of the dumbest mistakes I've ever seen. So sorry for not feeling bad that he lost out on millions because he was stupid enough to forge a check.

So he played a few games at FSU, and then played good in the AFL (and never won a championship, I believe) so now he should have beena first rounder?

And when have you ever known New Orleans to be the one team that DOESN'T make the mistake of the generation. I'm sure McPhereson will be good on Madden, but that's about all.

If pacman Jones was worth the risk at 6 then Adrian is worth risking a 4th rounder.

How is a guy that has gotten over 1000 years all 4 years in a BCS conference not worth a high pick?
He is saying that Benson has also had run-ins with the law. Not that his numbers arent good.

I think its not fair though. Benson hasnt been in the same trouble Adrian has been in. JMHO.

broad strokes of generalizations about character issues or workout numbers can both be equally misleading. you have to look at the Saints particular situation their needs and how to best address those needs. is Adrian McPherson the answear only time will tell, but several quality NFL QB's have slipped to later rounds & been successful. to say he is the steal of a generation is too early, much too early. to say you can't take a super talent with character indiscretions from the past & turn his fortunes around equally false.

my biggest fear is not that Adrian becomes a star or not for the Saints, its more to do with the Saints organization as a whole & their future viablity in New Orleans. you just can't compare them on an equal playing ground to the NewEngland Patsies or to be fair our own Houston Texans :twocents:

Hey, say what you will about Dillon, but he's been a model citizen and the consumate teammate. I'm not sure exactly what happened in Cincy, but the Patriots' front office did their homework and decided he was worth the risk. In an offseason full of arrests and motorcycle crashes and whatnot, you can't say you've heard much out of Foxboro - and no news is good news.

I don't know what will happen with Terrell, but I guarantee you they'll cut him faster than (insert clever analogy here) if he slips up even once.

Just IMO, all of it. Keep that in mind. I'm not trying to portray my opinion as fact...

I would they would NOT trade him. Park his dumb AZZ at the end of the bench and never let him back on the field. I know, they probably would trade him as it is a business after all, but I would like to see him on the bench wondering about the career he just pizzed away that most would give thier right arem to have.

He signed for the vet minimum with no bonus (reportedly), so cutting him wouldn't carry a cap penalty. If he turns out to be a tool, they'll just show him the door.

I'm not sure that is correct about Owens. He got a pretty good bonus (not sure $) and he is supposed to make 7 mill this year (with bonus $ in). On cold pizza they said he would get 14 mill in the first two years (with the bonus figured in) which is at the TOP of the reciever market, and not near as much in the following. Those outer years are what he was warned about by the union AND the league. He knew what he was signing and did it anyway. Now he wants the team to bail him out of his stupidity. Of course Rosenhouse wants a new contract because he isn't getting paid off of this one. At least I think he isn't.

Of course he's been a model teammate ... for New England. But that doesn't erase what he did prior to arriving in New England. Which would make him no different than any other player that has a shady history that a team takes a chance on.

Uh-oh... I think I made someone's #@&$ list.

Wouldn't be the first time, won't be the last. I don't always agree with people but I do try to respect their opinions. Sorry if it seems like I didn't.

Don't read too much into internet message boards. Tones are impossible to put into context when it's just words on a screen. If you knew me as a person, you'd understand.

A similar example would be some of the posts you made on this thread. I'm sure you didn't mean to come across as if your team's #@&$ doesn't stink but it felt that way to me.

If I read differently, then you have my apologies. But it seemed pretty cut and dry to me.
