Dallas: Signing Drew Bledsoe gives Bill Parcells a starting quarterback he knows and trusts from their days together in New England. Bledsoe has a strong arm and can make every throw an NFL passer needs to make, but his lack of mobility isn't any less of a problem than it was when he was being sacked 86 times in the last two seasons with Buffalo. Here's another reason for concern about Bledsoe's contribution: He has a 5-34 career record against teams with 10 or more victories.

He plugs the run as well as any defensive lineman in the league and consistently commands double-team blocking. First-round draft picks DeMarcus Ware (linebacker, Troy) and Marcus Spears (defensive end, LSU), and second-rounder Kevin Burnett (linebacker, Tennessee) are high-impact additions to the front seven, and should go a long way toward giving Parcells the kind of defensive dominance that is the signature of every team he has coached. Anthony Henry, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, brings a reliable starter to cornerback.

I guess we Texan fans just like to hold our favorite players in the highest esteem.

Glenn will be a backup for the Cowboys. He's just not an impact player anymore. He had his great years, mainly with the Jets. He helped the Texans immensely with getting started and getting to the point of taking off the training wheels. Now his career is winding down.

He's a seasoned vet in the last years of his career. I think most teams like having a few of those type players around. He's been there and done that...nothing is going to fool him as far as offenses go but yea he's not going to be an impact player for you.

exactly.. I always wondered why Glenn wanted to leave the Texans..I mean he is basically doing the same thing over in Dallas as he was going to do here.

Kinda ironic that P-Buch gets involuntarily (sort of) reunited with his best friend and A. G. voluntarily reunites with his.

We did not over-rate him. When he was on the Texans, he was regarded as our best defender. Not just by fans, but media.

He is a good player still.

Very true but I think that our collective affection for the Texans had our "best defender" rated a little higher than he probably really is. I think like all fans we think too highly of our stars and we're too harsh on our goats.

His first two years with the Texans were pretty dern solid (didn't he go to a Pro Bowl?). Last year, not so much. But then again, just about every CB in the league had difficulty adjusting to the new rules.

agreed and to add to that.. Did the Texans show any kind of pass rush?

If we (the Texans) get any kind of pass rush this season, Buchanon and Robinson should look really good.

On top of that.. Glenn playing 3rd corner... with the cowboys front 7 should have a good year also.

Let's see now. Switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 with a new veteran player, two, possibly 3 rookies, and the rest of the players adjusting to an entirely new scheme . . . is a recipe for a very very long season if you ask me. In fact, it will be a long season for the rest of those teams switching to a 3-4 this year. Like Casserly said, the Texans have been messing with the 3-4 for 3 years now, and "we still don't have the correct pieces yet". It takes time to put that puzzle together.

I don't know the inside story on why AG left the Texans. AG himself and
maybe Cass and a few other Texan insiders probably are the only ones who know all the reasons he left here.
But he had some good games last year here in Houston and I won't be a bit surprised if he ends up starting in N.Texas this fall.

I thought he was playing very well at the end of last season. People just remember him being burned in the first half and everyone thought he was washed up.

He played very well in 2002, and the first half of 2003. Then, as you will recall, he got some sort of injury; I tend to recall a tweaked hammy or something. From that point on, anytime Glenn was in a situation where he had to all-out sprint, I would hold my breath and hope he wouldn't re-aggravate it. He did a few times before 2003 ended.

In 2004 the general trend was to pick on Glenn in high-speed situations, because as the year would go on, his legs became more fragile. He truly found himself in the 'old veteran' position where if he used his smarts properly, he could position himself on the field in advance of the play and break it up by being in the right place at the right time, but the number of plays where he was required to sprint in and bust up a play were usually the ones where he got beat or hurt himself. Anybody remember that late-season game where he hurt himself making a run and a leap in the southwest endzone to break up a play? He broke it up, but at the cost of having to come out of the game for a few series. To be honest, I can't recall if he even came back at all for the rest of the game.

The bloom is off the rose, in Glenn's case. As fans, we still viewed him through rose colored glasses, even through last year. (Wow! I got to use 2 rose metaphors in a row! ) I regret losing him as a Texans fan, I really did want to see him retire as a Charter Texan, then have us put him into whatever honor organization Bob McNair comes up with for the Texans. Now that he has left, (a) I do not see that happening and (b) putting the rose colored glasses down, I actually see our cornerback situation improve from this point forward. The 2005 Glenn will be slower than the 2004 model.

Dallas isn't switching to the 3-4 full time this year. I'm guessing it'll be closer to 60/40. They simply don't have the personnel yet to run it full time. Parcells knows this. I think Canty's health will go a long way in determining how much we can play the 3-4. If he's healthy, he's the other DE opposite Spears. 'Till then, we'll have to get by with Ellis playing out of position.

Glenn will be the 3rd CB but will play the outside in the nickel so that Newman can cover the slot. Should be some good times.

Impact Players -

Glenn - Actually I think he is very under-rated and will have another breakout year again not to mention can still be a very big impact player. An Interception alone can be a huge impact and with AG's talent and experience I think it will have a bigger impact over the season and will leave us with a hole early on.

IMO with a new team, an emphasis on him in the Nickel position it will help his play alot and will let him bring the experience he has to bear without having to rely upon just speed to make the play. Sure AG has lost a step or 2 - he is 31, but 2 seasons from a pro-bowl I havent seen him loose that much speed - just the occasional step when pushed to the outside against a speed receiver which he has always had difficulty with IMO. By and large last seasons efforts were pretty good on his part, in fact as I recall the defense held the team together the last half of the season including a stint of several quarters without a TD. I still feel Glenn has at least 4-5 more years of playing time in him and feel the Texans and AG both knee-jerked when the opportunity for P-Buch came thru. I honestly think we lost a great guy and a lot more depth at CB then we are willing to admit. P-buch is fast, but his coverage skills certainly have left much to be desired thus far esp if you talk to Oakland. IMO - AG is a starter waiting in the wings and Parcells knows it. IMO His veteran experience will help later in the year especially when teams are settling into their offense more and CB's have to play smarter rather than trying to just anticipate passes where speed can make up the difference in bad coverage. Per his usual - I look for Parcells to sub veterans in more later in the year and having them start - thus saving them for the playoffs when they are needed more. IF one of the starting CB's goes down or starts playing badly - I look for Parcells to sub AG in as a starter immediately. I feel the Dallas CB's are not that great to start with so wouldnt take much for AG to be playing starting minutes again. I think Parcells is doing the same old smoke screen stuff from before where the rookies train during most of the camps and plays, but its the veterans who play the games and get the most impact minutes during the regular season. Thus keeping his Defense fresh all year long and on regular playing rotations. This should provide good depth all year for them and follows the philosophy that "Defense wins Championships" and will keep Dallas' defense strong most of the year.

If Terrance Newman isn't remarkably better than he was last year, Glenn will definitely be starting in Big D

Newman had a better second half of the season than first but still overall he wasn't very good. He's got talent but I think he lost confidence. I've heard corners talk about how important it is at their position to be mentally right.

Glenn's role will be as a Nickle back and to back up to both Anthony Henry and Terence Newman.
