Texans v. Cowboys

El Tejano

Hall of Fame
I remember when we played Dallas and there was a historic sign that said "1-15 is okay. Just win this one."

I don't know about you but things have changed for me and our team can beat them all now. Is there another way we can change/reword that sign for the Dallas game?

well my wife is a huge Manning fan. She wants to live in sin with him and have his babies. Every time I want to aggravate her, I ask her when is Payton going to start a family ? And is the lawyer wife merely a beard ? Inquiring minds wish to know if Payton walks on the wild side ? Maybe Archie or Cooper can step up and do the job for him ?

A "1-15" record against the Colts is NOT okay......flip the script and win this one.

That's about all I got.

I like this one alot. I really like it. Only, I'm looking for something for the Dallas game.

I was thinking something along the lines of "They are all important now, but really make sure you win this one."

I know people like this that is why I have dubbed Peyton "Substitute Jesus" He is made out to be all everything so much by the media I feel the only thing he hasnt done yet is die for our sins...I wonder if Jesus takes a day off does God say...fill in Peyton

How's this for a writing prompt? A well known football coach once said winning isn't everything, it's the only thing." Do you agree with this statement? Why? Why not?

No, because Peyton only wants to start. That's why he's Satan!!

Meh, just remove the first sentence and note:

JUST WIN THIS ONE!

(then you can add to it as the season progresses)

... and this one.

... and this one.

... and this one.

... and this one

from the article
14. at Houston (Sept. 26, noon) -- We know where this game ranks for Texans' fans. We know they're still talking about 19-10 down there because in eight years their pro team hasn't given them any playoff games to talk about. Houston's on its way. I like Matt Schaub a lot. But, sorry, they're still just the Texans.

Other than the last sentence, what else is there to argue with? I hate the Cowboys with a passion, but until we PROVE something we really are just the Texans to the rest of the NFL.

Comments like this used to hack me off because I hated the Cowboys, but last year I came to an important realization:

I don't care about the Cowboys. I don't hate them..but I could care less about what they do.

Last year I would have done everything I could to go to this game. This year, it's all about seeing us play the Colts week 1. I used to hate the Cowboys because I'm surrounded by that trash around here. But, really...what is there to hate? They have an overrated QB whose luck always runs out come playoff time, and they can't get it done in the clutch. They're exactly where the Texans are at the end of the day sans a playoff loss every other year.

Have they been more successful? Of course. Are they better than us? No way. At worst, we're two evenly matched teams with opposite strengths.

If a Cowboys player said that it would be different. Tim is a writer. That's what he thinks. Didn't come from the team or anybody on the team. Big deal.

I hope that the players don't need any more fuel. They should be pissed off beyond belief for missing playoffs yet again, so if they still need something to get them pumped up then I think they are the wrong group of players.

For the fans, on the other hand, this kind of stuff is fun when we get to throw it back in their faces!

Who cares where it came from. It's just another example of the arrogance that surrounds that organization, much of it's fan base and now, the writers.

To be fair it's not like this writer is writing for the Dallas Morning Star or anything like that. He's an ***** blogger who writes what he feels. If he doesn't think that the game will at least be competitive then you already have an approximation of what his football opinion is worth (not much).

Which, more more than likely means he's a closet Cowpoke fan.

I thought it was a given that this guy was a cowboy fan ( I see now he's writing for a major paper ).

Writer from Dallas has no idea about the Texans. Messageboard shows surprise.

Love ya TB but didn't AJ just say something similar the other day....about how no one is afraid the Cowboys and it is no big deal. I even made comment that if Miles Austin had said it that people would go ape crap. What is the difference? Cowlishaw is just expressing what has been said here....alot more people take it as a rivalry here. It isn't an indictment on the talent or team...just the excitement level of the game. And he is a writer for the DMN.

I'll put it like this:

If you can find a Cowboy fan who also follows the rest of the NFL, and isn't an arrogant sperglord that thinks going into the house of the best receiver and one of the best passing attacks in the NFL anchored by a defense that has multiple pro bowlers will be cake then you should post about them here. I would love to discuss football with that person.

That's twice that I read we are still talking about 19-10. To be quite honest, I can't remember the last time that was brought up. Now, I'm sure it will be brought back up by some Texan fan here or there, but whatever. You got Gurl's fans bringing up **** from 20 years ago.

I never understood why they weren't interested in setting up a rivalry. Sure, they look at us as "little brother" and not worth their time...but in-state rivalries can be a lot of fun. It just seems to me that they're too arrogant to consider the fact that the two teams are 1-1...and this game is for bragging rights for the next 4 years.

Unless of course they win...at which point they will shove it in our face. However if they lose, they will be quick to point out how the game meant nothing to them and that we are the only ones who see it as a rivalry.

The Texans and the Cowboys don't play enough games to really have a rivalry. Every time they play is 4 years apart unless they meet in the SB. Sure they play in the pre-season but that doesn't really matter to anybody sane.

Until you can point at a record that's like 5-1 or 10-1 at the Cowboy fans, they will always thing their team is superior and that you're rivalry is with them and not the other way around.

I wish someone would email that to each and every Texans player... And once a day to Cushing, Pollard and AJ.

I wouldn't do that!!! Pollard and Cushing would likely injure everyone on the Texans Offense, and possibly the Defense due to uncontrolled fits of rage. They could possible destory the space time continuem. Just show them the quote on game day.

Yeah, us Texans just talk about that first win over the Cowboys all the time! That's all we talk about on this forum, who cares about last season's 9-7 finish, all our pro bowlers and all-pro players when we can relive our glory days of beating the Cowboys! Yeah! This guy is sooo dead on and isn't a conceited dick at all! Good thing those Cowboys don't hold on to outdated irrelevant monikers to define their team so they can remember the good ol' days. Oh wait...

Haven't understood either why both franchises aren't interested in making it a yearly thing and turning it into an easy geographic rivalry.

Bottom line though is it's a once sided rivalry right now. Though I agree with you if they do win they won't hesitate to shove it in the face of Texans fans.

You're essentially talking about reallignment, or a complete change in the way the NFL does it's scheduling. In the case of reallignment, neither the NFL, nor the Cowboys are going to allow a change that takes away the existing rivalries with the Giants, the Eagles, and the Redskins. In the case of changing the method of scheduling, I doubt the league is going to do it because of one wannabe rivalry, and from what I can tell, that rivalry is kind of a one-way thing anyway. I am absolutely insane for the Texans, but it's not a rivalry because the fanbase of one of the teams says it is.

Besides, rivalries don't automatically exist/develop because of geographic proximity, nor can they be forced by recurring scheduling - the Astros/Rangers have proven that. They just have to happen on their own.

I actually was talking to a cowboys fan about this yesterday.

Did not know the guy but he was in a group of about 7 friends I was with and had no idea I was from Texas.

He said randomly that he couldn't wait until Sept 26th when the cowboys play the Texans, I then informed him I was a big Texans fans and that the Texans were going to win:texflag:

Don't let them fool you, they still are anxious for this game as well..it may not be a rivalry game but it sure is not a regular game when you have the two NFL teams from the state that loves football the most going at it!

Ehh not very good but couldn't think of any others rite now.

Despite my first post in this thread, which I stand by, meaning the Texans have yet to prove to the NFL we are to be feared if we are on their schedule, I hate the Cowboys with every atom in my DNA.

I hate them more than the Dolts, Inbreds, and Kittens. It's just who I am. I've been listening since the ****ing 70s to Cowboy fans in Houston and I'm tired of it. Cowboys must go down in our third game. They must.

As to the fuel for the fire, fine, but my fire concerning the Cowpatties don't need to be lit. It's been lit for a long time now.

My Inlaws are big Dallas fans... many of my friends are huge Cowboy fans.

They don't care.

Cowlishaw can be an asshat. I usually pull against him on Around The Horn when he's on.

Cowlishaw has been a Texans supporter on that show more than a couple of times (as well as the Rockets) and usually when he sticks his neck out for us and gives us some props, we do something stupid like find a way to lose a game that we should win or fail to "take the next step/turn the corner" (yack ) and we make him look like a fool

I have no problem with what he said, if you put all the "Texans' fandom" aside and think with out bias, everything he said was sadly the truth.

And it's not just him that feels this way either. If Houston won a couple of those games or turned a few of those corners that we keep hearing about (again yack), then that game wouldn't have a noon start time, it would probably be a nationally broadcasted game. Houston has no one to blame except themselves for the way outsiders view this team. They are annually offseason favorites that become a regular season letdown. I think people in the media are getting to the point where it's put up or shut up...and I can't really blame them, because I'm getting that way with this team.

NO MORE TALKING, NO MORE EXCUSES......START DOING, START PRODUCING!

They do that and there will be more respect bestowed on this team than we can shake a stick at. Respect is earned...it's not given and if this team can make some big noise this year with this schedule they'll be given PLENTY of respect by everyone in the national media.

He said we're "STILL" (not "just") talking about (19-10) and we are.... People here DO still talk about it.

Sorry, again what he said is the truth and sometimes the truth hurts.

It's been eight years and I hear someone say 19-10 to a cowboy fan all the time around this city like it was some great playoff game that's being broadcasted on NFLN's "NFL's Greatest Games" or something.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the victory just as much as y'all...hell I lived up in Dallas and didn't have to listen to smack talk for a few years, but it's time to bury that game. They waxed our ass last time we played them, I want to return the favor.

I never mentioned anything about realignment. I don't know where you even got that its what I am "essentially" talking about.

I do agree as of this moment it's a one sided affair. I've never said any less.

But, I will say a rivalry couldn't develop if the two teams don't play one another. Which they aren't.

I say have 'em play and see what transpires over time. If I was to help any sort of rivalry form, I'd have them play late in the season when playoff hopes are on the line.
