We all thought last year that the Texans would have drafted a running back, instead they came out with Arian Foster and Jeremiah Johnson as undrafted free agents.

It seems pretty obvious that the Texans will not be doing that again and somewhere early in the draft they will select a running back.

So my question is, who do you think that certain running back will be?

Doesn't matter which round, but I've posted seven popular names that could be on the Texans' radar.

If you choose Other, please specify who you think it would be.

I will be happy with a 3rd round back. I may be happy with a second round back based on who else is there. At the moment, I will be very disappointed in a first round back. I think there are far more pressing needs than a first round back.

Like I said, I don't really care for what round we take them in as far as this poll goes, I just want to see how close this forum can be to predicting which running back the Texans may draft.

(Just fyi I'm also opposed to taking a running back in the first round)

The more I think about it the more I feel like the Texans will go CB in the first round. I think it's harder to find a good corner than a good running back. Also, let's think about picking a running back in the first round. The back will probably not be a full time back and he'll probably share the backfield with Slaton a lot. On the other hand, a corner like Kyle Wilson will probably play a lot or at least a lot more than the running back would. Therefore, I think there is a better value in picking a back in the second round. I think Jahvid Best or Toby Gerhart will do the job for the Texans. This is just my opinion and of course I could be wrong. But 3 days before the draft that's the vibe I'm starting to get. We need to draft good talent in both positions and I'll be happy even if they do pick a running back in the first round.

Same. I voted for Hardesty but I'd like Dwyer. Hope to heck it isn't Matthews.

I voted Mathews not because he's the back I want, but because it seems like that's why the FO would select if Wilson, Thomas and possibly even McCourty are all off the board in the first.

For my money I'd love to have Kyle Wilson with the first and Tate in the second or third.

Marion Barber!... I predict that we either trade our 3rd rounder for him, or perhaps we trade our 1st and get Barber and their 2nd... something like that. He's on the block.

probably a guy that no one on this board has put any thought into because they're not getting hype from draft sites, so everyone will call it a terrible pick

I like your thinking, it's similar to the Glover Quinn pick last year!!! And Owen Daniels in 06.

I think I see a trend here... we will draft a no-name RB who winds up being a stud with our 4th round pick!!!

If the Texans wait until the 4th round to take a RB, this board will go into meltdown.

That would be horrible...we could get similar production for a LOT less money with Tate, Gerhart or Dixon. Heck...I'd rather spend a first on Best or trade up for Spiller and still save money on a RB than have Marion Barber.

In order for the Texans to get Gerhart, Matthews or Spiller they would more than likely have to use a first round pick on them and I just don't see that happening. I think we could get Dixon in the second or third and even better I would like Charles Scott from Lsu in the later rounds. Charles Scott is going to be a bargin. I doubt we go with a RB in the first...its just not the Kubiak way. I want defense in the first round because we are primarily a passing team and we can get a big RB in the later rounds. I want DT Williams or FS Taylor Mays with the first pick....we can probably even trade down a few spots and still land them.

Perhaps his coaches drew up plays for him to run behind his best protection and that protection was on the left side?

If you watch his longer runs that start up the middle or to the right, he consistently breaks them to the left sideline. Then, the one or two times he does go right, you can see that his entire upper body feels/looks awkward handling the ball and trying to stiff arm with the left arm.

Yup. Especially with the latest news of who the Texans have been looking at. Are East Carolina's RB Dominique Lindsay and Hampton's RB LaMarcus Coker just smoke-screens? I dunno

I agree with it being a back that they aren't hyping right now but Lindsay and Coker are more of the same of what we already have. We need a big power RB.

barber....sigh, hes terrible. id pick spiller if he was on the board rd. one. otherwise id be happy for them to get gearheart in later round ...i see some mocks with earl thomas going after our pick...if thomas is available and we pick matthews or wilson id be highly disappointed!

If FS Earl Thomas and FS Taylor Mays is on the board when we pick....which one do you take. I personally would like to see the hardhitting superfast and much bigger Mays back there with Bernard Pollard. The opposing WRs would sure be have alligator arms with their heads on a swivel with Mays and Pollard roaming the secondary. I know what the "experts" are saying and ranking thomas higher but to me its a no brainer...Mays.

With our current crop of CB's, I'd take the guy that can help with pass coverage.

If we took Mays over Earl Thomas I think I would seriously be pissed. Like eat my hat filled with tacks mad. It would be such a huge waste of a pick. Almost like when Derrik Jouhnson was on the board and we traded back for TJ. Or took Okoye instead of Wilis/Revis.

I am still pissed about that to this day.

I wouldn't be shocked in the least to see us take two RB (and/or CB for that matter) in the draft. So, I could see us doing Spiller/Dwyer/Tate/Hardesty early in the draft and Miller/Coker/Lindsay late.

2 backs would not surprise me, but I am not expecting it. I think one gets taken in the first three rounds (hopefully Gerhart), and then we bring in another 1 or 2 as UDFAs.

Guys like Mays don't come along very often. I want a mean hard azz hitting defense. I hope we let Brian cushing make the pick..lol

Mays is a bit of a liability in pass coverage and he doesn't always wrap up his tackles. Earl Thomas is exactly what the secondary needs. A guy that can cover ground, play center fielder and over the top, and has a nose for interceptions.

Disagree on us NEEDING a power back like most people are talking a bout. What we need is a guy who can be reliable in the run game, can catch out of the backfield, and can pass protect (otherwise its unlikely he'll see the field).

I'm still nervous about Slaton being able to come back, after everything with DD/DW.

I'm still trying to block both of those moves out.

Count me in as being a guy who would be mad in getting Mays over Thomas.

Golden I hear what you are saying but I just think Mays covers more ground and most of the time he doesn't wrap up because he is knocking them out..lol. I just like the physical style that he brings ...love the size and the speed...this guy is a freak.

He is not right for the Texans. The Texans need a ballhawk centerfielder.

Also, Mays' physicality is overrated. He is fast and strong, but he only knocks out the people who are not looking. Most of the time he does not lay into people who have their head up.

Mays was bouncing off players with his "knock-out" type tackles in the Senior Bowl. What do you think he's going to do in the NFL? He's just another Roy Williams, Laron Landry, Reggie Nelson type S, lookin for the big hit but couldn't cover Terrence Cody.

Lol The mental picture of Terrence Cody at WR makes me laugh.

Ok you guys sold me on Mays but I think we could use him. I want Dan Williams anyway but we are going to keep going with the bust (Okoye) so I'm really not sure what we will do now. Maybe trade back and pick up another pick. Just trade out of the first and have 2 in the second I guess. I know I don't want to take a RB in the first round.

I want Tate or Gerhart ....later - after they use the first rounder is used on the defensive side of the ball. Either will do.
