Tedy Brusci 2005 season

Vinny

shiny happy fan
I just heard it on National Sports Radio. Looks like he has a hole in his heart and his career may be over.
By Scott Kilbury, KOLD News 13 Sports Director

New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi -- who once played for the University of Arizona -- is facing heart surgery, according to sources in Tucson and Boston.

The team isn't confirming this news yet, but KOLD News 13 has learned Bruschi went into the hospital for tests. He is scheduled to have surgery to repair a hole in his heart by the end of the week. That's what may have caused the mild stroke he suffered last month.

The 31-year-old Bruschi was rushed to the hospital complaining of partial paralysis just two weeks after winning his 3rd Super Bowl ring.

Bruschi played football at Arizona from 1992 to 1995.

wish him all the best & hopes he makes a full recovery :)

my most fond memory of Tedy is before the last Superbowl (#39) out there on the field playing tag with his two toddlers (looked like twin boys) as they bull rushed him down to the turf, no I stand corrected that was a great memory and a lesson to all what is really important in life.

I had been wondering how he was coming along. I would guess that his playing days are over now. With the broken blood vessel in his head and now the hole in his heart, he's so lucky to be alive.
Hope they can repair the damage so he can live to enjoy his family, and keep his memories of the last few years.

Agreed...This is yet another blow to the Pats...If he goes down, he'll be very hard to replace...Not only was he a Pro Bowl ILB, but he was a leader for them...Looks like their "dynasty" may have come to an end already...

Time to move on. He always seems to prefer to be with his family. Good for him. I don't think this will be a case of a player who tries desperately to hold on to his playing days. Good luck Tedy.

Best of luck to Tedy and i hope he recovers fully. It'd be great to see him back, but theres more to life than football. Great player, great team-mate,great family man.

Tedy Bruschi=Ideal Sports Figure.

Best of luck to you in the future Tedy and get well soon.

All of this to worry about on top of his health. That's rough.

Questions abound. Do the Patriots have to pay Bruschi his base pay in 2005 if he can't play? If it's determined that the cause of his stroke was congenital, and not because of anything that happened on the field, can the team demand a portion of his signing bonus back? Can they withhold his salaries for the next three seasons ($856,000 this year, $1.855 million in 2006 and $2.206 million in 2007) if his career is over?

Its sad that money would even be an issue at this point in time. Teddy definitely has some very serious health issues, and the last thing he needs is for the Pats to be putting pressure on him about honoring contracts or not! I really don't think the Pats want to deal with the media fallout that will occur if they give this boy any trouble.

Well if the Pat leaders have any heart at all, they won't be butts about it.

If the pats brought up the contract issue, I think that they might just beat out Al Davis as the most hated figure in football.

Patriots | Bruschi a Regular at Team HQ - from www.KFFL.com

The Associated Press reports New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi (stroke) has been a daily visitor to the team's headquarters six weeks after suffering a stroke. "He comes in regularly. "It was a serious situation, and he's getting better," head coach Bill Belichick said, according to the MetroWest Daily News. "Tedy is Tedy. He's an upbeat guy. He has a smile on his face like he always does."

This is good to hear, I am glad he is doing better. I hope he makes a full recovery...

Patriots | Bruschi to Play in 2005?
Wed, 20 Jul 2005 06:32:27 -0700

Jerome Solomon, of the Boston Globe, reports according to a report on New England Cable News last night, New England Patriots LB Tedy Bruschi, who suffered a stroke in February, plans to play this season. They cited a source who said it would be surprising if Bruschi didn't play this season, placing the likelihood of his return at 90 percent. Team spokesman Stacey James said Bruschi hasn't told the team whether he plans to play or sit out this season. ''Tedy Bruschi will make his intention known when he is ready," James said. ''As far as I know, he hasn't discussed it with the staff as yet." Bruschi's agent, Brad Blank, said yesterday he had spoken with Bruschi in the last couple of days but the linebacker hadn't indicated he had made any decision about playing in 2005.

Surprising news there.
But, from that article .. "Bruschi's agent, Brad Blank, said yesterday he had spoken with Bruschi in the last couple of days but the linebacker hadn't indicated he had made any decision about playing in 2005."

He has some heavy-duty thinking to do. His agent needs to back off and let Tedy make his own decisions about his life and future.

''I'm just taking my time making sure things are right," Bruschi said at the Patriots' Super Bowl ring ceremony in June. ''Just living one day at a time right now.

He is the most important player on that defense.
The only thing worse for that team is to lose Tom Brady.

The Dynasty is over.

This was the best decision for Tedy and his family. Every Patriot fan I know is supporting him 100%, even though we'll miss him on the field. Anything less would just be inhuman!

And, for the record, EVERY report I've read has said that the Patriots are honoring Bruschi's contract regardless of whether he plays or not. The Krafts are quality people, and good businessmen. They know the potential fallout of leaving one of our most beloved sports heroes high and dry. If they were to screw Tedy over in any way, I'd be the first one to stand up and denounce the team.

As for the "dynasty is over" talk... well, I've heard that kind of talk before, and the Patriots seem to just keep overcoming one injury after another. So I guess we'll see. I like that line of thought, actually... it gives Belichick the "disrespect card," which is getting harder to come by with all those Lombardi trophies at Gillette Stadium!

I am not sure the dynasty is over, but the road to the Super Bowl got a lot harder for them this off season. I suspect the Colts will be the AFC champs this year. Actually I hope they don't make it, but they seem the most likely at this point.
