Santonio Holmes traded to Jets

I want to say it's because of recent character issues

but last time I checked, Big Ben is kinda in trouble

This has got to be an error.

I know Holmes underachieved last year (I had him in Fantasy Football, so I should know). But for a 5th rounder?

Only reasoning I can imagine this has happened is that there has been a sudden "spring cleaning" with the shenanigans by Ben and Santonio.

They ought to trade Ben while they're at it. He's going to end up in sex addiction clinics like Tiger and Jesse James did. LOL.

Confirmed by ESPN.com, via this link.

So do the Jets also get the guy who took the rap for throwing the glass at the lady? They're going to need that guy to be with Santonio in NY. 24/7.

If Sanchez settles down and plays well...that team might be really good.

Wow! I did not see that one coming... I guess this means the Jets won't be going WR in the first round... Maybe they will want to outbid the Chargers for Ryan Matthews??

applies more pressure to a Texan secondary less Dunta, that's going to be a really tough match-up to win.

He'll more than likely be suspended the first four games of the season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. This had to be factored in the trade and could help us if we played the Jets in the first quarter of next season. However, the Texans and Jets requested a Thanksgiving matchup making it likely we'll have to deal with him.

This is what I was thinking, too. It could have been part of the reason, but it seems like they could have got a bit more value. A 5th rounder just seems low.

The Jets now have the most overrated WR corps. They'll shoulder the load okay but let's not start annointing them the saviors of their previous teams. Holmes is nobody on another team. He was well utilized and overachieved as a result.

I really applaud Rooney's gall at removing a prospective cancer. I wonder if they'll also ship Roethlisberger out as well? Probably not but I wouldn't be all that stunned to see it happening.

A 5th? The Jets may have gotten themselves a hard bargain. I like it. Tough to imagine the Steelers getting fleeced here but it sure looks like that at first glance. I don't know what to make of it...

Holmes had only one good season (last year, 1248 yards receiving iirc) so maybe the Steelers know something that there not letting the Jets in on

Exactly what type of season were you expecting from him? 79 receptions, 1248 yards and 5 TDs, he had a career year. Can't believe they only had to give up a 5.

He is in the last year of his contract and will be missing 4 games. They gave up a 5th to rent a guy for 12 games. Steelers obviously were not planning on re-signing him. Seems fair.

Question is, does anyone see the Steelers making a trade for Marshall?

Why would they go after Brandon Marshall? They just traded one guy with character issues. Can't imagine they'd replace a bad character WR with another one.

I'm pretty sure the Jets have alot more in plan than just renting a guy for one season.

Santonio Holmes for a 5th round pick is highway robbery. Hell we got a 5th round pick for Travis Johnson and I thought that was highway robbery, because we probably would've just cut him.

Santonio Holmes is >>>> Travis Johnson. (It would've been awesome if we could've turned that 5th round pick into Santonio Holmes) the Jets made out like freaking bandits. WTF are the Steelers thinking.

Not only does it appear to be highway robbery for the Steelers... Jacoby Jones' trade value just plummeted.

I love my texans.. Wouldn't trade em for the world.. But anyone else feeling a little envy at the jets? First year, afc championship, then get a pretty good CB to pair with a all world CB + 3/4 of a 1000 yd reciever for almos nothin? Someone check em for a hypno watch

PFT is reporting that Leon Washingtin may be part of the Holmes deal. If this is true, then this trade is looking a bit more 'Rooniesh'. Leon Washington would have to sign his tender though.

The jury's out on the Jets. There's always some owner that decides "this is gonna be our year" and then he goes and breaks the bank.

The problem is that these guys actually have to develop chemistry and execute during the games. That's easier said than done.

For every Lakers, Red Sox and Yankees team that wins a championship that way, there's a dozen more Mets, Rangers, and Orioles team that go in the tank.

Leon Washington for Santonio Holmes looks like a win for the Steelers in my book.

Steelers are having some problems
they just got rid of one of them

Ben is going nowhere but he is out of mulligans
this was a message to Ben as well
even heroes can be sent packing

if Washington is included it's looking a lot better trade-wise
I don't think this makes the Steelers better but it was the right move

Hasn't anybody noticed that this trade probably dropped Kyle Wilson to us?

The Steelers 3rd WR Mike Wallace looked more than capable last year as a rookie. His playing style is similar the Jacoby Jones, but his rookie campaigned was better than anything that Jones put up. In short, the Steelers, don't have an automatic void at WR and quite frankly still have needs on the OL and CB that should supercede WR, if you are assuming that they will draft to published need.

This is Limas Sweed's chance to prove he belongs in the NFL, so far he hasn't done much.

Mike Wallace IMO can do what Santonio has done.

You still have Hines Ward who can lead the young WR group and get the best out of all of them. I see them working on the line or Secondary and getting a WR in the middle rounds. The WR group in this year is pretty weak IMO, not really a guy I would feel comfortable with taking at 18.

On the other hand if the Jets can put everything together on the field they could be really good, on paper they already look pretty stout. Most of the rookie QBs that had a good year their 1st year (Flacco/Ryan) had a down year last year, so Sanchez may take a step back this year if the trend continues.

We have some damn good games coming up this year.

Chris Mortensen also said there is no truth to the rumor that Washington was included.

Peter King of ESPN is insisting that Washington is not a part of the Holmes deal.

Chris Mortensen also said there is no truth to the rumor that Washington was included.

The original PFT story that pointed out that Washington was rumored to be part of the deal also added that it was very unlikely that it was true. Primarily because Washington is a tendered RFA who has yet to sign the tender.

Trading Santonio for a 5th makes about as much sense as this dancing texans check. :texans chick:

After his latest trouble, they were going to release him. a 5th is the most they could get because he will be suspended the first 4 games.

I'm envious

The Jets are doing what teams that are trying to win championships do. They take risks on guys with baggage at low costs (5th rd pick LOL what a steal)

I wish the Texans ran their organization like this.

The risk/reward for the Jets is off of the charts in this deal. IMHO

Let me differ with you here. Cromartie is not a pretty good CB, I rank him as average to below average. His run D is suspect and I seem to recall it was his poor play that broke the long Shonn Greene run for the Jets. I see Cromartie as a nickel CB at best.

Holmes has only put up 1000 yd receiving once in his career: last year. I seriously doubt he will get 1000 yards with the Jets. Remember, their coach loves the pound the ball, play D, and pass to make the defense honest mentality. Sanchez attmepted about 24 passes a game. Schaub had the most at about 36 passes per game. The best comparison to what Sanchez may do is to look at Flacco. Flacco had 31passes per game in his second year, with a running game tht was not as good as Sanchez's. Mason picked up over 1000 yards for The Ravens. But, their running game was not as effective as the Jet running game. I think it will be tough to have single receiver pick up 1000 yards in that system. Also we must factor in the off the field issues for Holmes.

So, i would say these are adequate types of deals and not blockbuster deals which should pencil them in as Superbowl favorites.

The Jets are a young team that was only a game from the SB last year, are they not now on the verge of being the fav from the AFC to make it to the SB in 2011 ?

They are looking strong but they have some age issues that are coming eventually. Two of their OLmen are 32 or over and all of their DLmen are 31 or over. They are going to need trench draft picks to work out.

How many years was that said about the skins and cowgirls in the nfc?

I think the Jets will be an interesting team to watch this year. They've had some success and are fairly aggressive in trying to make upgrades. The results of this active approach will be worth watching as the season plays out.

Holmes has acknowledged selling drugs on the street corner of his hometown of Belle Glade, Florida as a teenager; he says that his mother's influence and a desire to play professional football made him decide to stop.[10]
Holmes was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on May 27, 2006 for disorderly conduct.[11] Charges were subsequently dropped after Holmes paid a fine. Holmes was arrested for a second time on June 18, 2006 for domestic violence and assault in Columbus, Ohio.[12]
On July 7, 2006, Holmes appeared in Franklin County Court in Columbus, Ohio for both a pre-trial regarding the domestic case and hearing regarding the traffic ticket. He plead no contest to the traffic ticket and agreed to pay a fine. While Lashae Boone, the mother of Holmes' daughter and the victim in the assault case, requested that the domestic violence and assault charges be dropped, the prosecutor refused. Boone and their daughter accompanied Holmes to court. The charges were later dropped.[13]
On October 23, 2008, Holmes was arrested in Pittsburgh and cited by officers for possession of marijuana.[14][15] He released an apology after missing a game, stating that he wished to "focus all of [his] efforts on helping our team win on the field and achieve its ultimate goal."[16]
On March 24, 2010, Anshonae Mills filed a lawsuit against Holmes over a March 7 incident in which she alleges Holmes threw a glass at her in an Orlando nightclub, resulting in a cut above her eye. Initially, Mills did not pursue charges, claiming Holmes and the police intimidated her into it, but the case has been reopened. Subsequently, after a Twitter comment criticizing the nightclub incident, Holmes told the follower to "kill urself." He later Tweeted it was time to "wake n bake," a reference to marijuana.[17]

Now suspended for four games.

Yeah, it must be a black thing.

I think it is more of a #2 WR versus starting QB thing. Wide receivers are basically dime a dozen, starting QBs who can lead a team to a Superbowl victory are much harder to find. Holmes is much more expendable than Ben.
