one of the topics covered by Alan Burge in his latest installment. Good article.
 
I think the voice of the fan is feeling the weariness of the offseason along with us. He does write very well... but with that said... he usually offers some new tidbit of info.. this time, it's the same old song we've all been singing for almost 6 months now... but.. what's that?? I think I can see the light! Just a little less than 2 weeks away!
 
that 1st game should give us fans a good indication of the run defense, I expect the Bills to run often & try to control time of possession. if the Texans are successful in preventing this they should win the 1st game and be prepared to shut down the Steeler offense on the ground forcing Ben to put the ball in the air. then we'll see if the linebackers can not only stop the run but cover underneath routes and screens in coverage. we're all ready for some football, another fine AJ article :highfive:
 
There really isn't anything new to discuss hardknock. He hits the pre-camp question marks and gives the casual fan something to look for in camp.

Greenwood will be used like Capers used smallish Sam Mills in his old schemes. Last year we all saw our mac and buc linebackers get lit up in isolations and in zone coverage’s when we went to an underneath zone. Greenwood will not be a mismatch since this is where his skill set will be maximized and will not have to come off the field in passing downs.
 
doubtful, because Mills was one of the great ones, but that isn't the point really. They have the same skill set and Capers isn't trying something new. He has used a smaller inside guy before with great success.
 
Hey guys Texans84 asked me to come over here and post a little about Morlon Greenwood. I'm a Dolphins fan and been one all my life. I hope I can provide some insight into Morlon.

Morlon, as mentioned earlier, has a lot of speed. He can cover, which is what Miami used him for most and he can go sideline to sideline if needed. He's not the surest tackler but if anything he'll slow a guy down until help arrives. He did play some inside LB last year when Zach Thomas went down and was very impressive posting double digit tackle numbers over that stretch. In Miami we didn't blitz much at all so that aspect of your defense will be new to him although given his speed he should be able to make some plays on the QB.

As an insider I thought maybe datruth could elaborate on why he wasnt resigned? Not worth what he was asking? and if so why? I love inside info and opinions like this.
 
Not taking anything away from him but, "insider"? He is a Dolphin fan but he doesn't have any more access to Dolphin news than we do. He still has room on this server to throw down his opinion. 12 teams pursued Greenwood in Free Agency. Guys chase a buck in FA.
 
lol...point well taken. I tend to be single minded as a Texans fan so even a casual Dolphin fan would be insightfull to me. I guess this means we came up with the $ and thats all there is to it.
 
nothing wrong with getting some scoop from rival fans though...you are right about that.
 
Nice read AJ. It's nice to see his articles. He expresses many of the same feelings we all have, but does a very good job of expressing them, and offers a great explanation.
 
agreed it was a good read, as i share many of the same concerns about our revamped D, and as i have proven time and time again...i am always right :cool:

the only major gripe i have is this little tidbit from the latest 'voice':

i thought this line of thought was dispelled in the days following greenwood's signing. from NFL.com:

Jamie Sharper
Height: 6-3
Weight: 239

Morlon Greenwood
Height: 6-0
Weight: 238

looking at just height/weight, the shorter guy that weighes one pound less (ie: stouter) would seem more adept at plugging holes. i know people have different builds, and carry weight/muscle differently but i think the main difference between sharper's and greenwood's ability to plug holes is minimal and morlon is entering his prime while jamie is on a decline. just my :twocents:

Very good point jr0ck. Morlon is definitely still improving. He has gotten better every year he's been with the Dolphins. His first two years the coaching staff felt he was underachieving but in his third year he really started to play up to his potential and his numbers have increased every year. He's still a young player and really doesn't have a lot of wear and tear on his body due to him being used in coverage so often.

To anwer the previous question about why we got rid of him, it's simple really, we had no money. Coming into free agency Miami was about $17 million over the cap. We had to make cuts (my favorite being Jay Fiedler :) ) and couldn't afford to re-sign a player like Morlon who demanded more money on the open market than we could afford. Miami made him an offer but he took more money to sign with the Texans. I think with an aggressive coach like Capers he should do very well for you guys.
 
I didn't realize he was so short. Oh well some of the best ilb's were like that. Singletary, Mills. Not saying he has that kind of talent but at least the chances of getting stood up go down. Nobody really has a good idea what he can do. Hope the FO knows something all the people who said we overpaid didn't. Fortunately we'll find out pretty soon. :jam:
