I'll take it!

I would love that! But Thomas is still available?
Yea, I think I'd take Haden over Thomas though (going on the assumption Haden should be an elite CB).

Thomas went 24 to Philly.
Iupati went 27 to Dallas.
Matthews went 28 to San Diego.
Wilson went 30 to Minny.
Price went 31 to Indy.

If Haden has a poor pro day, I would be a little leery. I do not know if he is that much of an upgrade if he is not faster than 4.6

I would hope we sign Bodden so we can go Thomas or Matthews.

This mock is wrong. With Mays running a 4.3 at the combine, he will taken by Oakland and Crazy Al. Lock it up.

Don't worry, he's got them taking Bruce Campbell, the OT that ran like a 4.8

I expect him to do better at his pro day. And I really don't put much stock in the 40. Glover Quin ran a 4.50 compared to Haden's "poor" 4.57. Quin looked pretty good out there his rookie season. Plus (maybe the way I justify it) is that supposedly Haden's starting form in the 40 was poor. Better form and he starts/runs faster. This should happen at his pro day, and just the fact that we're talking about a little coaching in how to run the 40 seems silly to me for a football player. I get that speed is important, but a player (i) has pads on and (ii) never runs starting out in a track sprinter stance.

With that said, getting Bodden would help us out so much once it comes to the draft!

Absolutely! If we don't sign Bodden, then we will probably have to take the highest rated corner available. And I sure hope that would be Haden.

I would jump all over Hayden. So stupid that a bad 40 at the combine crashes him from top 5-10 to 20th pick.

But the question would still remain, can he cover a guy going on a fly pattern that can run a 4.3? Unless he's got some awesome jamming skills, the 40 time would say "No".

But yeah, the guy has been consistently good in college, that should definitely warrant him not being there when we pick.

DeAngelo Hall gets beat deep three times out of five and he runs in the low 4.3s. I wonder why that is...

You cant coach speed... and some speedy guys you cant coach at all.

Don't worry about his 40 time guys, there is no way Haden falls to us at #20. He'll go in the top 12. I love the Ben Tate pick at #51, great choice, fits the team perfect. Hopefully we can sign Leigh Bodden or trade for Richard Marshall freeing us up to fill another hole in the 1st round.

He played in the SEC, the Confrence with crazy speed, and didn't get abused week in and week out. Some guys are faster with pads on then you think.

I agree. Some guys also have great hip movement, great back pedal, read the WR well, read the QB well, read the play/route well, and take great angles to the WR. There's much more to being a great CB than just speed. He's not going to fall to us at #20 unless everyone above us just looses their minds.

So why not draft a Cb that does all of it like WIlson or Devin McCourty (2nd)?

I don't understand this comment exactly, I think Joe Haden will be gone by the time we pick and I've had Kyle Wilson as my 1st round pick for some time now.

I think he means that those guys do all the things you listed just as well as Haden plus they run a faster 40.

But, if that were really the case then they would get drafted before him, not after him.

I don't think Wilson or McCourty can cover near as well as Haden. Haden was a great cover corner at Florida, and plays much faster than his 40 time at the combine. He has greater anticipation and timing ability in coverage than any other corner in this draft. The question I have, much like with Thomas, is can he tackle NFL RBs and TEs. He was a solid tackler in college, but I think his size will be more of a factor in the NFL than it was at Florida.

Wolf your comment that I quoted stated that there was more to CB than just speed (which I do agree with) was addressed by my point that why not get a guy that has it all? I should have included that you support Wilson. My post was directed at the over all flow of the thread comments directed at Haden. We don't have to go with a pure size/speed guy like Cook or a "technique" guy like Haden or Dom Franks who are slower. Guys like Wilson and McCourty who offer both should be the choice.

I disagree somewhat as team philosphy (Al Davis going for pure speed vs skills), small school vs "name" which I think will effect McCourty, system of O. or D. for example do we want a cover CB or zone? I think one of the things that effect some teams is what I call "follow the leader". One team selects a small super fast RB or big fat DT or OL and is successful and other GMs copy. I began pushing Kyle WIlson when he was rated as a 4th rounder despite having "shut down type" CB skills, speed and play. Now he may go before our #20. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think Jethro Clampett said that.

I would be STUNNED if Haden was there at 20.

Then again, I was stunned in 2004 when Wilfork dropped to 21, so anything could happen.

If he is, I expect Rick Smtih to put on his track shoes and sprint up to the podium. Haden is top 10 talant. He should be taken well before our pick.
