The Kyle Wilson thread

I did a quick search and saw no thread dedicated to Kyle Wilson so I figured I'd start one. A lot of people have us taking him in mocks so I'll post what I know.

He played for Boise State, he did very well, and I can't find an official 40 time for him from the combine. He is smaller (>200lbs) but people love his hips :smooch: . He takes gambles a lot and has closing speed to make breaks on balls.

Fill me in on the rest.

Round 1: Bose State CB Kyle Wilson 5'10" 190
Big upper body, cut & plays physical. Competitive, confident matches up with teams #1 WR in man coverage. Does has some expereince @ FS. Lions staff coached @ the Senior Bowl, would like the tandem of Lous Delmas, FS paired with Kyle Wilson, CB but not if the Texan can take him first. Reminds me alot of Dunta Robinson when he first came into the league, except he seems stronger with position & hands, will jump route, has great intincts & and ball awareness. Wilson is considered the best cover-corner in the Senior Class which also means he's seasoned & mature possilbly more prepared for the NFL than even the top Juniors. Still despite Bosie States lack of national exposure Kyle did make 2nd team All-American & helped his team defeat an excellent TCU team in Tostitos Fiesta Bowl 17-10 (forced fumble, sack & two break-ups, 3 tackles) For his Bronco career Kyle had 159 tackles, 11 Int's, 27 passing break-ups & 959 punt return yards. Texans priority need would be #1 CB going into next season if Dunta Robinson is not re-signed & walks away a free-agent. Luckily the Texans will have a resolution to this situation prior to the draft which is in April.
Dunta is now gone & resolves this issue. if Kyle is available @ #20 this is who the Texans should target. He did not run @ the combine after lifting (did 25 reps to led WR's two more than DT McCoy) did interviews & measurements the following day deceided not to run due to some hamstring tightness. His Pro-Day I beleive is March 28th, should be well attended.

How possible is it that he shoots up draft boards and overtakes Haden as #1CB?

How possible is it that we get our pick of Haden, Wilson, or Earl Thomas when the Goodell announces the Houston Texans are on the clock?

It's pants creaming time if we get one of those three in our secondary!!!

I've had Haden as a lock to be a top 10 pick for awhile now... I wouldn't even hesitate to take him if he was available at 20. If Haden isn't available I would be happy with either Thomas or Wilson.

Haden ran a pedastrian 40 time for CB's,it was something like a 4.56,might of been 4.61 i cant remember but if thats the case, the dude has dropped out of the 1st imo, that is too slow.

he hasn't dropped out of the first round. He's droped down some places but he is still going in the first. Dude is too talented to drop out of the first.

He's got a lot of great game film to offset his bad combine performance.

The thing is... he didn't look prepared for the combine. His technique in the 40 was terrible. He didn't do the drills well. Everyone expected him to eat that stuff up. I think HE expected to eat that stuff up without having to work very hard.

So, the combine probably will be a wakeup call for him. He'll probably bust his ass getting ready for his pro-day like he should have busted his ass getting ready for the combine.

But if he has a bad pro-day... who knows what's going to happen.

Haden could run much faster if he improved his hip extensibility. He is a short strider. He should be able to run in the 4.4s

I was really impressed with Ghee. Big guy that is very athletic

I'm a big fan of this guy, he's had a great career at BSU. Oh by coincidence I'm actually wearing my BSU T-Shirt this morning - it's a bright orange (not
burnt orange, not to worry UT).
BTW you guys were lucky you didn't have to play BSU in the BCS this year,
there's no shame in losing to 'Bama but there is to BSU, just ask the Sooners.

couple things, Ryan is a beast & is going to make some team very happy, maybe its the Texans? In fairness, Kyle came over to help in run support & nobody is going to arm tackle this guy with a head of steam.

you know what would be epic is if the Texans could trade up into the first for Ryan so the Texans could have both, why not? :snowday:

I haven't seen a lot of Wilson, but in his bowl game this season he did not look very good at all. If I remember correctly he was thrown at 6 times, and allowed 4 receptions for 50+ yards. He also missed some big tackles.

Now I'm not going to go all Vinny and say the guy is Petey Faggins waiting to happen over one game, but it does raise a little red flag for me.

I was working & only got to see parts of the game. It would seem he held his man (KERLEY) scoreless only 65 yards no big deal probably in prevent mode since TCU struggled to run the ball. Still had a sack plus two break-ups & three tackles plus solid in punt returns. The defensive standout no doubt would not be Kyle but Daryl Washington, love to add his talent @ WILL for Texans.

I think Wilson will be a good NFL CB. He has similar size to what we had with Dunta, but he is more of a ball hawk in my opinion. Personally when I saw him in the Frenso State game I was not impressed. Not in position alot of the time. Watching the play go by. But to be honest, Ryan Matthews stole the show that night. But I also saw him in the Oregon game and 1-2 others where he was trying to be physical, and was being a force.

I think he will go in round 1 from 20-25.

He should be available @20. But I would not be surprised to see the Texans get Earl Thomas or Mike Upati and fill the CB position in round 2 or 3.

Wilson will be a very good corner and possibly develop into a shut down type. I still think he wil be avail at #20 but am now zeroing in on Ryan Mathews who could develop into a franchise type back with his size and speed. I will get trashed for this but if we got a 1& 3 for Owen Daniels I'd be ok with that. Texans seem to be very high on Dreesen and most want Casey to spend more time on the field. I think as Texans revert to more running plays this season, Hill will get the call to block. That's too many TEs when you add OD whom I really like. I'm thinking Wilson with our #20, Mathews with the 1st for OD and have another 3rd. I could make an excellent mock....

That fresno state video reminded me so much of our defense in the first 3 weeks. Specifically LB's or S's attacking the wrong gaps or DL getting run out of the play. I don't feel like any of that falls on the CB who is supposed to be guarding the backside. Go back and watch those again without focusing on Wilson and I'm thinking it's the Jets or the Tacks.

Wow.

I don't miss those days at all.

am i the first to disagree with this? Dressen was called the most underrated player on the texans when OD went down last year but he never filled Daniel's shoes in the least. the production that we saw our TE's get in the past dropped and we dropped a couple straight after the injury. besides he's one of Kubiak's draft picks that actually worked out. Smithiak has always preached "build through the draft" how would they look now? When their first round of picks' contracts are up they tender them and then move them? that seems a little hypocritical to me.

I dont know if the Texans could get a 1st and 3rd, but I would be ok with a trade to another team for a 1st and 4th. I think a team like Baltimore or NE would love to have Daniels. I could see this team drafting Mathews and Wilson or Mathews and Thomas.

The Texans seem to have struck out in free agency. Which means they will have to fill holes in the draft. That doesn't mean they must draft a CB or a RB in the opening round. But, they can't wait too long.

Some of Ryan Mathews best highlights have Kyle Wilson chasing him from behind. I think Mathews would provide more immediate impact. Plus, I'm just not convinced of Wilson's value @20. I think he compares with players taken in recent drafts such as Alphonso Smith, Darius Butler, and Brandon Flowers. All proven to be good corners, but found in the 2nd round. Maybe Wilson will not be available in the 2nd, but someone close to his ability will likely be.

Actually they should get more value if they do wait until the later rounds.
Tate or Gerhardt for example in the third instead of Mathews in the first
and the CB position is very deep this year while there's a dearth of first-rate corners.

I agree with this. I'd rather have Devin McCourty in the second than Kyle Wilson in the first. The depth at CB should be beneficial for us this year as we can fill another need with our first pick and pick a CB in the second that would be comparable to what we would have gotten in the first.

I'm still not convinced that we don't add a starter quality CB through trade or (R)FA, though.

Tate and/or Gerhart aren't in Mathews class. If we knew for certain that Slaton would come back healthy, then grabbing a complimentory power back like Gerhart would make sense. Picking up a vet RB and going with a Tate would make sense. But the Texans don't know if Slaton's coming back, and won't invest in a vet RB. They've put themselves into having to grab a starter out of this draft. If they're smart, they'll grab one sooner than later.

The Saints won the SB with first and second string running backs who were undrafted FAs coming out of college. The high-profile Reggie Bush was basically a slot-receiver/third-down speciliats who played 3rd string behind Mike Bell in the DC.
Arian Rogers is already a more experienced NFL running back than any back the Texans will draft this year, no matter the round. The biggest thing the Texans will miss in a back this year is one who's proficient at blocking for Schaub in passing situations, and I doubt that Matthews is better at that than Tate or Gerhart ?

I think this is the year where we can make a move like this. Starters at CB and RB could mean 11 wins. All for this trade up.

This is what I have been preaching since the season ended. We have to come out of this draft with a starting caliber RB. We cannot go into next year hoping Slaton and or some late round pick will make our running game respectfull. Its a big enough risk that a top rated RB can do it.

If Spiller isnt there I say we trade down and aquire as many picks as possible. I read somewhere Detroits coaches and scouts were in love with Wilson at the combine. Maybe we could get them to trade up for him at #20 with their #34 and #66.
That would give us options like -my personal choices in black.

#34 Jared Odrick, Maurkice Pouncey, Devin McCourty, Ryan Matthews or Jonathan Dwyer

#51 Daryl Washington, Lamarr Houston, Vlad Ducasse, Ben Tate

#66 Chris Cook, Mike Johnson, Major Wright, Arthur Jones, Greg Hardy, Chad Jones, Montario Hardesty

#81 Cam Thomas, Mardy Gilyard, Brandon Ghee, Jacoby Ford , Toby Gerhart, Perrish Cox, Javier Arenas......Any of these guys would be ok with me.

If the most important aspect for a RB is blocking, maybe the Texans should just bring back Chris Brown (ducks from the flying tomatoes).

:ohsnap: Just realized you're from Idaho. Go Broncos.
