The Texans gave a 2nd round pick for Pierre Thomas? 5'11 215lbs, only 25 and has expereince.

You then could draft BPA in the first, Earl Thomas or a DT, go CB and OL in the 3-4 and 5-7 go depth....

Thomas, Slaton and Foster...

you have now filled every hole needed and picked up some quality talent that will help right away.

I kinda like the sound of that...:texflag:
 
I think if we draft a couple of RB's we can accomplish the upgrade in the running game without the heftier price tag.

2. Have you heard that this may/may not happen or is this all hypothetical?
 
I am willing to depart with a 2nd rounder for Lendale White so yeah I wouldn't mind doing it for Pierre Thomas.

Our staff wont do it though. The way they will see it is, they can get a RB in the second round for half the cost.

Giving up a 2nd for Richard Marshall would be the wise thing to do. IMHO

They can probably draft a CB with the talent of Marshall in the 2nd or 3rd rd. But secondary is badly in need of vet leadership. Marshall could help provide some of that.
 
I would straight up love to have Pierre in a Texans uniform. Just can'r see the Saints letting him walk...he's too important.

But why? You have a chance to get a player who has experience, who is still young and has the size and speed you want, with little to no miles on him, over an unproven, inexperienced rookie that has "potential." The Texans have "potential" coming out of their ears right now. Why not get a back in here that has had some NFL experience carrying the ball and knows what it will take to get the job done, rather wait 2-3 years for the rookie to "get it"...

Texans need experience players. If they keep staying young, they will never get over that hump. Every team in the league has seasoned vets and vets that are leaders, the Texans seasoned vets are still learning what it is to be a professional football player and having to learn how to lead on the fly...

I've just always been one that despised trading away draft picks, especially first day picks (1-3).

IMO, RB is probably the easiest position to translate into the NFL. Rookie RB's are successful in the NFL every year.
 
Pierre Thomas, 2nd rounder? No question.

Lendale White, 2nd rounder? Nope. Maybe a 4th.

See I am totally opposite of that. IMO, I think if I could get a young vet that has proven talent in the NFL for a draft pick rather take my chances on a rookie who might turn out, I take the vet.

I would agree with that usually but this system and this coach look a backs totally different than the rest of us. Kubiak goes through backs like Gruden went through QBs. Kubiak has a list of things a rookie or any RB has to do before he will allow him to step on the field at all during a game. One of the biggest reasons Foster didn't get on the field until the last few weeks was he didn't show in practice that he could pick up the pass protection consistently. Once he did, he saw more action.

Thomas showed a number of times he could pass block, catch out of the backfield and run between the tackles and make that one cut and get up field.


To each his own I guess...

Don't the saints have the right to match that contract and keep Thomas?

We do all the work and end up with nothing and the Saints and Thomas are happy campers.

Just draft a rookie.

I think so, that is why I said you would have to over pay Thomas for the Saints not to match...

If it is that way, makes more sense to get the rookie. Probably why you don't see allot of teams do this unless you have an extra 2nd rounder you want to take that chance with...

I might consider it if it were a position other than RB. I'd still be a bit stingy with my picks though.

Foster was an UDFA. The RB I'd draft would be in the 2nd or 3rd round and would probably be a bit more "polished" than Foster. Slaton was a 3rd rounder and saw the field early as a rookie. Green pulling his labia every week probably expeditited it, but needless to say, Slaton had a great rookie season.
 
Don't forget, not only do you give up a 2nd rounder but you also sign this guy to a big deal, I'd rather take that money and re-sign Walter to be honest

And that is exactly why it wont happen. McNair is fine drafting a rookie in the 2nd round and paying him half of what Thomas would cost.
 
I'd do it but I am a huge Thomas fan. I also love the idea of being free to spend that first round pick on another need. Its all about what kind of contract he would want and if the Saints would match it though. I suspect he would want quite a bit and I also suspect we would just wind up doing all the legwork for the Saints who would match anything. A part of me wishes we had tendered DeMeco and OD in this way.
