AJ:Texans draft watch: G Mike Johnson

Wolf

100% Texan
Continuing our draft watch series, let's take a look at senior offensive guard Mike Johnson from Alabama.

The Texans primary needs entering the 2010 draft are at running back, free safety, interior offensive lineman, defensive tackle and cornerback assuming Dunta Robinson leaves in free agency.

Johnson's projection from NFL Draft Scout is currently late second to fourth round, with the most likely being third round.

Chris Low of ESPN.com ranks Johnson as the SEC's 19th best player (Maurkice Pouncey is ranked 20th for comparison purposes). Low said that Johnson "stepped up front and center as one of the most complete offensive linemen in the league (in 2009). He was a consensus first-team All-American from his left guard position and anchored an offensive line that was rock-solid all season."

Low also noted that in his junior year, Johnson was "overshadowed somewhat" by Antoine Caldwell, the Texans third round draft choice in 2009 and former teammate of Johnson. That's the same Antoine Caldwell that had trouble beating out Chris White at right guard this season.

I am not feeling it for Johnson as I question his pass blocking skills. Don't need Schaub hit. I am more interested in OG/OT Marshall Newhouse TCU 6'3" 326 lbs 5.06 who is known for good feet and getting to 2nd level.
