Ed Reed

Vinny

shiny happy fan
Good story on Ed Reed. We always read about the guys wanting to back out of their deals. Reed was the 85'th best paid Safety last year, but clearly the best at his position.
To understand how big a bargain Reed is, consider that 84 safeties made more than his $513,000 total compensation in 2004 -- with 48 of them earning more than $1 million. What's even more astounding is that Reed hasn't pressured the Ravens to get a new deal.

Ed Reed did get a $3.625 million signing bonus when he signed that 5 year deal in '02. That would give Reed a cap value of $1.275 million for '05. I don't know if the writer took that into account when he ranked Reed #85 on the money list for safetys. I'm not suggesting that Reed is not worth much more than that in NFL value. Just that the writer was overstating Reed's sacrifice.

I donno...I read so much about whinney players I don't mind reading about guys who play at a high level and don't cry about their money.

Me either. These days this is almost like a Bigfoot sighting!

An NFL player who's not complaining about his money? Quick, somebody get a photograph!

you mean the other 90% of the NFL?

The Silent Majority.

Or the "Secret Service". It's like those guys are invisible because your typical T.O. types suck up all the coverage. You can't hear that 90% over the roar that the other 10% make.

Havent heard much from Bubba Franks....

He's actually in the middle of a contract dispute with the Packers right now, but he's been relatively quiet much of his career. He wants more than what they tendered him this season. I believe his agent is Rosenhaus, and there is rumors of a holdout. However, Franks has said he only wants to play with the Packers next season.

Duane Starks, Dan Morgan, Santana Moss
Starks (lack of production) and Morgan (injuries) dont have the right to talk.

Not sure, but didnt Moss and Taylor refuse to go the Redskins training sessions this year???

Starks has a superbowl ring as part of the greatest defense in history (or among them) And he had 6 interceptions with 17 defensed passes. Thats VERY good. He was an important part of that 12-4 Ravens superbowl team.

and Morgan has been to the superbowl. Is injury prone, but did have 100 tackles in 12 games in 2004. He is like a poor mans Urlacher.

Both were starters at their positions. I think they got plently to hold their hats on. Starks certainly does.

And since his days with the Ravens, Starks has played a total 25 games over 3 seasons (missed the entire 2003 season) with a total of 100 tackles and a total of only 5 interception. He was just released this offseason. He is not as good as he once was and surely can't open his mouth over a contract or give a coach a tough time.

Morgan is a very nice player, but he only has 4 career sacks over 4 years and has missed 22 games so I dont think he is in a position to complain about anything...

They can hold their hats for what they have done but, as of right now, they arent in position to cry over something...

Oh sorry, I thought this was about accomplishments not complaining about contracts. Yeah right now Starks and Morgan have zero leverage.

Actually earlier in the year this report came out: Mike Preston of the Baltimore Sun reports that team sources have told him Raven’s safety Ed Reed might not show up at training camp on time if he doesn’t get a new contract.

Reed has 2 years remaining on his current contract and is scheduled to make $581,250 was the NFL’s defensive player of the year for the 2004 season.

So consider the source.

and just exactly how are we going to get Ed Reed when he is still under contract for 2 more seasons?

Trade? Dave Ragone for Ed Reed straight up?

Ok, we throw in a couple of special appearances from Toro for kids of the Ravens front office people. Will that do it?

Well taking shots at his grammar someone could take shots at your maturity but i'll excuse that as well since you are young.

I'd take Ed Reed coming here over Earl or Coleman. He is one of the BEST defensive players in the NFL period and by far the best safety. That's a no brainer.

He is suposed to be the leader of the ravens defense when Ray Lewis reitres, and I don't think that the Ravens are going to trade him for a 3 round QB, of course I'll put him over Coleman and Earl, but first at all, is to bring him here

Why is it every time someone talks about a NFL star, people have to try to find some way to make him a Texan, especially one who is under contract and isnt going anywhere. If we were to land any big name players it needs to be on the Oline first and foremost.

if have glenn earl we don't need more safety
better???

thats not bad, you get your point across and that is all that matters. also, i don't know if i would listen to the guy that has a few years of high school english left.

i don't see the raven giving him up and if they did it would be for a lot. reed doens't seem like the guy to hold out but i can't blame him if he did. to much of a team first player to do it. ed is one of my favorite players, no one leads or plays with more passion than him.

would really like to see him as a texan, be close to home

Yup Vinny's right its a disease.

Its called the TEXANS FANS WANT ALL THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE NFL TO CRUSH ALL OTHERS DISEASE or You can call it Super Bowl Champs for short.
