Rate the Texans needs

This is simple, just rate in order what you think are the Texans needs right now, kind of like how you would draft the positions if the players were avaliable. Here's my list.

1. defensive tackle
2. running back
3. corner back
4. center
5. safety
6. more offensive line help
7. more defensive backfield help

Ah, Football!
Obviously it's going to depend on how the board falls and Dunta's situation, but my best case scenerio with Dunta remaining a Texan:

1. DT
2. C/G
3. RB
4. DB
5. DB
6a. Oline/Dline
6b. Oline/Dline
7. Kicker

1) C/G
2) RB
3) DT
4) CB
5) G/C
6a) RB
6b) WR
7) PK

With no salary cap, I don't see them letting Dunta go but this will probably be his last year if he doesn't sign a deal soon. The good thing this year though is the first round could be the highest rated guy that's on the board from what's on my first 4 round guess.

1. RB

4. Center / Guard
5. FS

This isn't neccessarily the overall needs I see the team having, but the order in which I think that (if filled) would lead most quickly to the playoffs.

This is really tough because it depends who is still on the board. Here is my guess to it though.
1.C/G
2.Defensive Tackle
3.Safety
4.Running back
5.More Offensive Line help
6.Kicker
7.Whoever we can get that has potential

Normally I would be right with the DT crowd in the first round, but I really like Florida's Pouncey. He is a good size and very athletic center who in my opinion would be exactly what we need on the line. He can also play G if needed. I think the draft is deep enough in DTs that we could still get a decent DT in round 2.
If Pouncey is off the board, I would then start looking at DTs.

BUENO!
1. DT (and that's just criminal after all the time we've spent trying to get that done)
2a. RB
2b. CB
2c. C

Past that I'm thinking BPA. I look at the team and I don't see any deep gaping holes. The OL needs an anchor, not an overhaul. The DL needs a wrecking ball on the inside, again not an overhaul. The secondary needs a better FS but even if Dunta leaves we're still in ok shape with Pollard, Quin, and Reeves. at RB we need a starter to either emerge or arrive but the group isn't terrible I don't think.

No matter where you look you see groups that of course you could try and improve but only a couple of spots where you must improve.

So far the most votes for the position is this:

1. DT
RB in second place
2. C/G DT CB (tie)
RB and FS in second place
3. CB RB (tie)
DT in second place
4. CB
RB in second place
5. C/G
6. O line
7. DB Kicker (tie)

1. A new coach
2. A better coach
3. A coach that isn't Kubes
4. A coach that isn't an Aggie
5. A coach that gets angry and spits on people
6. A coach that blah blah blah

A pink soaper would have puked it up eventually, so I figured I'd get it out of the way.

1. FS
2. CB
3. DT
4. OG
5. C
6. RB

My list is based on the fact that I believe that the RB, and OL situation can be addressed in FA, where as the secondary and DL situation needs to be addressed early in the draft, and the OL/RB can be take care of later for depth.

TexCanada

All Pro
1) CB
2) OG/C
3) RB
4) DT
5) FS

I have FS at 5 because of Eugene Wilson, but the depth behind him is non-existent. So, I would still take Earl Thomas in the first round despite this not behind our most immediate need.

Ryan

THIS YEAR
1. QB(4,700 yards? Give me a break. 5,000+ or go home)
2. WR(This Andre Johnson kid isn't getting the job done)
3. TE
4. TE
5. Waterboy
6. A new linebacking corps
7. Reggie Bush(he did win the SB all on his own, amirite?)
8. Vince Young
9. TE
10. Media attention

EDIT: I'll put media attention ahead of that 2nd TE.

Updated with new votes.

Here's the voting by round so far.

1. DT and RB tied, and by a large margin over other positions
2. C/G with CB a close second
3. DT with RB a close second
4. DT and RB tied, with CB a close second
5. C/G and S tied
6. OLine and RB tied
7. Kicker

To get a better idea what yall think is most important, I tallied the votes and assigned them a rating. Round 1 picks get 7 points, round 2 picks get 6 points and so on. Belows is the highest vote getters by position.

RB 136 points
DT 132 points
C/G 115 points
CB 109 points
FS/S 84 points

So, SURPRISE! Yall think RB and DT are the two most important things in the draft. LOL

I would like to point out that Mario and Smith's abilities are being used inefficiently without a strong DT creating pressure. Fixing that problem effects the entire defense. It needs to be our first priority.

Also, I'm a huge Earl Thomas fan, but if he came to Houston he'd be a corner. Too short for FS.

Team Gruden
1. FS
2. CB
3. DT
4. RB
5. C
6/7. WR/G

I think DT is the greatest need but I don't like 1rd DTs. I think C is probably the 2nd greatest need but don't think it's bad enough to go in the top 3 rounds.

1. Iupati.

everything after that would be gravy.
I would love for you to be right about this guy and have the Texans bang the hole for a dominant interior OL finally!!! I wasn't too impressed with his Senior bowl performance though. Do you think Iupati at LG and Caldwell at RG can compensate for Myers at C in terms of getting some push in short yardage situations?

i have'nt liked anything I have seen about him. I would say 1. Earl Thomas, 2. Dwyer, 3. CB from Boise State (cant remember his name ATM)or Dan Williams Tenn U. As has been said, Iuputi looks like Todd Wade 2. No thanks. No waist bending stiffs.

Depending on what the Texans do in free agency here is my list.

Draft Needs:

1. Running Back - The Texans were one of the worst in the NFL!!!!
2. Defensive Line - The lack of a pass rush is still there even though the defense played better.
3. Safety - We need a free safety with range & brains in the worst way this may come in the F/A market should I say Antrel Rolle once he is cut loose?
4. OL - we need better blocking in the running game period.
5. CB - Never can have enough good corners.
6. WR - Andre can use some help.

free safety. If we don't get that 1st and foremost, and i'm talking round one, then we will pay for it like we always do.

Its beyond me how anyone can not have RB as need #1. We do not currently have 1 RB on this roster that can be depended on for an extended period of time nest year. Not 1.

I feel your pain. they're either in serious denial or they beleive that the Texans are in denial & will never address the RB position. kinda of a self preservation thingy :gun:

I resemble that remark....

Or

they realize there are sixteen draft able and ranked in the top one hundred running backs. There is no need to panic a reach for one in the first round. That is not shrewd drafting. I don't wanna guess we have holes for the rbs. I wanna know we have holes for the rbs.

Absolutely. it's very rare to have a guy this big move like a zbs lineman. and what I can guarantee you is that there will always be Spiller's and Mathew's on the board. As good as the passing game was, if you want a championship, gotta run the ball in December and January. One dimensional teams are usually one and done in the playoffs. I want a ring. Iupati gets us closer to that than the HR hitting running back. Call me crazy, but if Iupati falls he's the pick.

I reckon I screwed up on my list. I went by how I'd like to see them drafted, not by need.

I definitely think RB's a huge need, I just don't think we're using a 1st rounder on one.
