Who Were You Wrong About?

HOU-TEX

Ah, Football!
Let's play a game. This is for all of y'all who scout and research players coming out for the NFL draft. There are several of y'all that seem very knowledgeable, but we all know we aren't perfect.

I want y'all to post 1st round players you were most incorrect on within the past 5 years. Give me one that has been a success when you thought they were going to bust and one that has been a bust when you thought they were going to be a success.

Mine:
A.J. Hawk - He's been decent, but I thought he was going to beast. I wanted us to trade back and get him.

Ryan Clady - I remember having Chris Williams ranked higher. Clady's been very good

For my Texans
I thought Bush would've been the better pick. I am glad I was wrong.
I wanted us to get DeAngelo Hall, Drob has been solid and way better than Hall.
It still kills me that we got Okoye over Revis.
I thought Glenn Dorsey would dominate. Still early, but no production.
I felt the same about Darren McFadden.

Aaron Rodgers

I was sure that he was just another flop in the long line of Jeff Tedford QB's.

Trent Dilfer
David Carr
Akili Smith
Joey Harrington
Kyle Boller
Aaron Rodgers.

Plus he didn't really impress me when TxTech played Cal in the Holiday Bowl. He has turned into one hell of a QB though.

I was also wrong on Okoye, once AD went off the board I had Okoye as my next best player, right before Willis. D'oh!

Yeah, me too. I was really high on Revis.

Vernon Gholston. I though he was gonna be a beast.

Michael Huff. I thought he was gonna be great as well.

Darrell Revis. I didnt think he was anything special.

Big time on Michael Huff. I still can't believe that he's been a bust.

Dwayne Jerritt. I had him right up there with Calvin Johnson. In college he could go up there and snatch balls over anyone. He has stunk in the NFL.

Limas Sweed. I never thought that he would be a total star right away, but to have not even been able to suit up for the Steelers for most of his first season and then to not even play last season. He's a major bust.

Bobby Carpenter. I thought he was pretty much just as good as Hawk coming out of college.

i thought matt lienart would be pretty good as well as brady quin

i thought michael huff would be tearing up the nfl

i didnt think that clay mathews or cushing were gonna be that good... but they have proved me wrong and cush is now my favorite player

Were you down on Okoye or just high on Revis? I seem to remember most posters supported the Okoye pick at the time.

Not me I wanted Willis, and still think that is a pick that set this franchise back.

Think about Ryans, Willis, Cushing as our LBs.

Who was I wrong on Cushing, very very very wrong. Now he must stay healthy a few more years to truly be a solid pick.

In 2004, I wanted Tommy Harris, Ben Roethlisberger, or Jonathan Vilma. Dunta has been solid but has he been the player that any of those three?

IN 2005 I was wrong about David Baas, thought he was going to be a super stud.

In 2006, I thought LenDale White was going to be a stud, instead he has been a doughboy. BTW he might be a FA who I would take a chance on.

Tommie Harris has been one surgery after another. Cant remember the last time I saw him play. Vilma isnt even with the same team that drafted him.

The only player that is better is Big Ben.

Nah, I was just really high on Revis. I don't recall being really for or against Okoye at the time.

those who where high on Revis deserve some kind of accomandation :toast2:

my general feeling back in 07 was - Texans #1 prioity was to help Mario Williams with a young penetrating DT from that aspect Mario did have his best season & everyone felt better about that #1 overall pick. in last free agency season the Texans must not have felt secure with Amobi's progress because their #1 signing was yet another DT/DE Antiono Smith. Still unknown how it finally shakes itself out but their focus has been DL. Tell me need doesn't over ride bpa? It's a real problem & reason why we/Texans miss on prospects all the time.

So I'm going to stay in the present tense & say right now, even though the Texans will not address an area of team strength (WR) Jordan Shipley would be an upgrade over Kevin Walter. Forget about need or any school nepotism, he is sure handed, high motor productive #2 WR. under-rated speed & route running ability, plucks the ball with security as well as any WR I've ever seen. His deceptive speed & ability to seperate from defender creates safe pockets for a QB to throw which translates into a favorite target. I would hate to see him get drafted by the Colts or the Jets.

In this context did I miss on a prospect (or will I miss) because the Texans focus (which is my own) does not value a position high enough among more pressing needs?

Wow Vernon Gholston. I too thought this guy was going to be good. He's not even below average. Let's see who else.....

I thought Charlie Rogers and Mike Williams would be a good WR's. Thank God the Lions thought the same.

I didn't think Nick Mangold would be anything special.

I was wrong on Gartrell Johnson, Glen Coffee last year. I was also wrong on the Alabama QB who got drafted by KC. I forget his name now. Also, I was wrong about HWNSNBM!

In 2007, I wanted us to take Adam Carriker, DE out of Nebraska. While I like the Okoya pick, I thought Carriker would make a good run stopping DE opposite Mario. Carriker was taken two slots later at the 12th pick by the Rams, who proceeded to move him to DT. It hasn't been a good move for him.

In 2006, I wanted VY bad. I like Mario Williams pick, but I like VY better. I still think VY has the talent to be a great QB, but he needs to get his head get screwed on straight. That Probowl video that got posted with him complaining about his room size was a little hard to take. You'd think after siting on the bench for about a year, he'd be a little more humble.

Also, in 2006, I loved that Matt Lienart went to the Cardinals. He still has a chance to be a great QB as well, but again, I think he has head problems.

In 2005, I was high on Cedric Benson. While he seems to have changed his fortunes in Cincy, I though he'd be the LT.

It kills me we took Ok0ye over Wilis. Was very sad that day. I also thought Cushing was gonna be a horrible pick. Adibi would be a pro bowler last year...

Patrick Willis is probably one of my biggest "Who I Was Wrong About." I knew he was a solid player but I didn't expect him to be such a force as a defensive player.

DeAngelo Williams. I didn't think he would be able to rush for 1,000+ yards, I thought he would be one for those guys that could do everything (All-Purpose player) but not be able to stand out in one category...guess I was wrong.

I was okay with the Okoye pick but I really wanted Willis or Lynch. I expected Okoye to be a total stud, though, so it didn't bother me much.

I expected more from Laurence Maroney. I thought he was going to the right situation to be a true beast.

I expected a lot more from Frank Okam. I hoped he was going to find a little fire in his belly and do some great things for us. After his rookie season, I was expecting more from Fred Bennett.

I expected Caldwell to take the C spot from Myers by the 8th game last season.

Amobi Okoye- I really thought the way he worked over the o-lineman that week in the senior bowl we were truly drafting a younger, faster, quicker HOFer John Randle. And he would give Manning and the Colts fits for eight or nine years.

Vince Willfork- thought he was too fat and under motivated. He's a stud.

David Pollack- At 255 I thought he was to light. Vinny was correct on this one.
Hurt his neck though and had to retire after two seasons.

That was the year of the disastrous move back and both players we had targeted went off the board and we ended up with Travis Johnson.

I'm sure there's a few more.
