Dolphins release veteran linebacker Porter
The Miami Dolphins released four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter on Friday, the team announced on its website.

Porter spent the past three seasons with the Dolphins, earning his fourth Pro Bowl selection after 2008, when he led the AFC in sacks with 17½. Overall, Porter had 32 sacks, 154 tackles and six forced fumbles during his time in Miami.

The 11-year veteran spent the first eight seasons with the Steelers, helping Pittsburgh win its fifth Super Bowl in 2005 and recording 60 sacks.

From the Dolphins website:
"The release of Joey Porter was determined to be an invalid termination. Therefore at this time, Porter reverts back to the Miami Dolphins roster."

Un-splash?

Porter cannot help us in our style of defense.

How do you figure this??

You're right that he's more suitable to be in a 3-4 defense and that's where he's flourished at, but that doesn't mean that he couldn't play well in a 4-3 either. I'm not saying that he'd be great by any means, but I wouldn't just completely rule him out because of that.

Speaking of 3-4 defense I may get a lot of heat for this but our linebacking corps would be perfect for a 3-4 defense. Just imagine: Connor Barwin, Zach Diles, DeMeco Ryans, and Brian Cushing, that would make one sick defense.

IDK how much Joey Porter has left in his tank but if he does manage to get re-released then a team with a weak defense could use his services e.g. St. Louis Rams, 49ers, Broncos, Lions...

If the Texans switched to a 3-4 then I wouldn't be against bringing in Joey Porter.........and maybe a trade for NT Shaun Rogers.

That would be sweet! Mario Williams and Shaun Rodgers (we may need to find another DE) with Brain Cushing and Joey Porter as our blitzing OLBs makes me drool (well not really). :pirate:

In a 4-3 defense he will be no better than Diles when you consider price vs production.

Plus, when is the last time Porter had to man up a TE? In college about 12 years ago?
