Cedric Smith, New Strength and Conditioning Coach

It's nice to see we're just now getting the news. I suppose McFatty's too busy choking down Big Macs and rubbing one out on his neat little Cook County hat.

After hearing nothing but positive things all off-season about Wright, I'm surprised by this too. It'd be nice to get some sort of explanation as to why he was let go.

"The Texans are going to hire a new strength and rehabilitation coach. Ray Wright, who was elevated last year when Dan Riley was fired, was let go after the season."

I wonder why they decided to fire Ray Wright? A S&T coach is very important to a team, and probably one of the the most underrated aspects of a team. I wonder who we will get next?

Wonder why RJ didn't jump all over this. He is all over S&T coaches.

I wish we could get Mad Dog from UT to be our S&C coach, that guy takes twigs and turns them into tree trunks (e.g. Brian Orakpo was 6'4" 210-220-lbs when he was at UT and left as a big 260-lbs beast)

I hear this guy may not be too busy.

Maybe, it's because our OL and DL tend to be pushed around often enough that there might be a concern, you think?:shades:

LOL

Maybe the new guy can help Okoye keep from getting thrown around like a rag doll.

Thats if Okoye isn't off trying to save the world this offseason.

Whoever is hired for the position should get Myers into the gym immediately for lots of offseason very intensive workouts so that he can put on 15 lbs. of muscle before next season. I 2nd the vote for Jillians Michaels.

Because RJ was butt buddies with Riley and he had a personal interest in defending him. Ray Wright didn't work with the Redskins when Dickface covered them in DC so he doesn't care about him.

Smith played fullback and running back in the NFL for seven seasons and spent six years as the assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Denver Broncos before moving to Kansas City

The Houston Broncos....er....the Denver Texans....ummm

SURPRISE! Another coach from Denver. LOL. I'm sure Kubiak knows him and likes him and thats why he's here.

If anyone can find an article on this guy's philosophy or his boss' philosophy in Denver (Rich Tuten), please post it. I can't find a thing!

His bio said everything to me with those two years at Gold's Gym in Phoenix. :kitten:

I have looked for the last twenty minutes as well, and can't find anything on him outside of his bio. He knows our staff, this makes perfect sense to me as Kubiak is going with his guys into year 5.

Damn, I was hoping for Chuck Norris.

If Chuck Norris trained our defensive line opposing teams would get about five yards a game at most. But they'd probably get about three hundred penilty yards to make up for it. LOL

Damn, I was hoping for Chuck Norris.

Let's play Pick a Narrative - what not-signing Chuck Norris proves is:
- McNair is cheap
- The Texans are not just about marketing
- Kubiak is incapable of not hiring former Broncos
- Chuck Norris is afraid of Joe Texan
- Kubiak is in complete control
- Young Gibbs continues to bring in his guys, and thus has some clout
- Rick Smith earned another Smith
- We are staying with a 4-3 defense
- Dunta Robinson will be moved to Safety
- Fast twitch muscles are hot again
- Norris is afraid of the Turk
- His kind of trouble don't take vacations - McQuade

Pretty freakin' funny, Kaiser!

What? A sidekick to the head isn't allowed? Norris would have a eye to fist meeting with the commish to get that straightened out. :bat:

Last year we fire a guy who's been in the league forever, been with the franchise since day one because the "new guy" is going to be so much more progressive...but we get rid of him after one year. I wonder what is really going on?

I see three possible answers to this question:

A. They realized they screwed up hiring Wright and are trying to correct it now?

B. They've had their eye on this guy all along and he became available?

C. Texans suck. As a Texan fan, I prefer to give the organization no credit, assume the worst, mock them, and pile on anytime something goes wrong.

.... I Think it's A or B... Some of you may disagree with me, though.

Yep, my thoughts.

I think the new guy just didn't work out for them.

You forgot:

D. The Texans did it, so it's the "right way" of doing things. Nothing else matters.

Another FRIEND of Kubiak needed a job. Texans continue their quest as being the best training ground for wanna be coaches in the NFL. COME ON DOWN TO TEXAS!!!!! We'll train ya well and send ya off to win SBs someplace else!!!:sarcasm: I'm sick to my stomach of the "good old boys" club!!!

I didn't see or hear this anywhere. Please merge if there is an existing thread.

The Texans announced two staff changes on Monday, promoting Perry Carter to assistant defensive backs coach and hiring Cedric Smith to oversee strength and conditioning.

Smith spent the last three years as Kansas City's strength and conditioning coach after serving as an assistant in that capacity with Denver for six seasons. He knows Texans G.M. Rick Smith and head coach Gary Kubiak from their stints with the Broncos.

Smith also played seven seasons as a fullback in the NFL.

Carter has been a defensive assistant with Houston for four seasons. He was a fourth-round pick by the Cardinals in 1994, and finished his playing career in the CFL.

More Denver Coachs!!!!!! S O N O F A B-----!!!!!!

Engage rant mode on my mark:

Engage!!! There are 31 other teams out there and we can't get anything, but Denver left overs.....

Just kidding, but get ready for all the "Kubiak's buddies, Smith's cousin, Gibb's Vetrinarian" talk!!!!

Embrace the Denver South, and take heart there can't be many of those guys left!!!!!!

And maybe Kubiak is hiring the coaches he feels are necessary to implement his way of doing things. His way of doing things is what he learned in Denver under elder Shanny. Who, by the way, is implementing Denver/Houston East in Washington.

The Skins could be turning into "Texans East."

Ray Wright hired as strength and conditioning coach

Former front office official Ray Wright has rejoined the Redskins as their top strength and conditioning coach.

After beginning his NFL career as a scouting intern with Washington in 1997, Wright was twice promoted by the team. He served as the college/pro scouting administrator in 1998 and became the director of player programs in 1999.

Wright, who spent the last eight seasons with the Houston Texans, will lead Washington's new strength and conditioning staff, which is being assembled after the team parted ways with their entire staff last month. Wright also held a personnel assistant position with the Chicago Bears and worked as a strength and conditioning coach at Maryland and Cornell University.

The Texans promoted Wright to their top position in 2009. Wright also spent seven seasons as Houston's assistant strength and conditioning coach. New offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan worked with Wright during his time on Houston's staff.

"The position of strength and conditioning coach demands a combination of youth and experience, and Ray delivers on both of those," Coach Mike Shanahan said in a news release. "He has learned from some of the best in the business, and he has incorporated their teachings into his own philosophies. We expect him to bring out the most from our players, starting with their offseason conditioning and continuing through the entire season."
