LZ's 1st Mock of 2010

That's a long time before the first RB is taken. I have to imagine Spiller goes higher than 23.

I guess I just dont understand the Spiller fascination. Is Spiller any better than a Stephen Jackson @ 24? (First RB taken in 2004) or Chris Johnson @24 in 2008?

I dont think Spiller should go before 20. Do I think someone will take him higher than 20? Yes.

You just answered your own post. You don't understand the fascination but you think somebody will take him higher than 20. I didn't say Spiller was all world, just that it's a surprise that he slips that far.

Also CJ was the 4th or 5th RB taken his year, and the Titans were razzed for it a little because they had drafted Lenwhale and Henry the years before.

Lowest I have seen Berry going on a respectable mock. I have THomas as the pick if there at #20 but most think he will be gone. I have this little nudge to my brain going on that Dunta will be back. It is possible that Thomas will beat out Eugene Wilson and our D will be better and deeper. I'm looking forward to more of the playbook being put into effect as the D will have a year behind them & will know Pollard and Cushing are the real deal.

of course I like mine better, but he knows how to keep his constituency happy with Earl who I feel will develop into a fine player but would have benefited from one more year of school allowing his body to mature, still I agree should be there if the Texans so choose? Spiller to Green Bay? wow

"I think 20 is probably the earliest Thomas goes."

Interesting.

Somehow i find this unlikely. For all the hatred i have for all things UT, they usually churn out pretty good secondary prospects; knowing this, i suspect he will grade out very good at his pro day & combine & his stock will likely rise. How much is the question.

As i see it now, the key to this draft will be the defensive line prospects as it is deep. Either there's going to be a big run on these guys like we saw in 2008 with offensive lineman or teams will draft other prospects they are high on b/c they know they can get great value on the defensive line later with guys like Terrance Cody who reportedly is already looking flabby & sick.....moreso than normal since the season ended anyway.

Then you also have to include the "Al Davis Factor" & the inevitable rise of the "40 time speed guy" who is usually someone that's not even on the radar as of now. Hell, maybe that guy might be Thomas.

Yes but I noticed a lot of mockers have us taking the first or second ranked one. I have no problems with Thomas as a prospect with the twenty. But I'm always going to come back to the guard. There's no way Iupati makes it to the 53. Unless you're taking about making a move with Detroit or someone for their second, he's not going to make it to 53 . Making a move with Detroit would probably cost us our two next year & something this year above the swap.

I see. Iupati 16 to San Fransisco...makes sense. LB to Miami....that's my first clue as to whether or not a mock is worth it's salt. You all saw it. Crowder goes out, our o-line starts to roll. I wouldn't be surprised if they, Miami take two linebackers high, i.e. two with the first four picks.

Short of a failed drug test at the combine, there's no way Berry drops to #10.

Perhaps he's saying with this mock is the need at OLT is so acute, the OLT's will be driven up the board above and beyond the obviously higher talent at other positions ? I dunno. He broke my heart with Iupati @ 16 is all I know.

I am thinking Pitts will be back. At 31 he should be able to give us another 2 years if healthy. Your thoughts? In 5th, I am looking at Marshall Newhouse TCU 6'3" 326 5.06 that projects to OG in NFL but did well at both OT & OG in Shrine game.

Me too, there's no way in hell Jimmy Clausen would fall that far and no way in hell Clausen would make it past Jacksonville.

I have no idea which specific things will fall this way or that , but there is ALWAYS some player or position which "there is no way in the hell" that goes differently than expected. While we are better at guessing in drafts nw than 15-20 years ago, we really can't read 32 teams at the end of April sitting in our lazy boys in the beginning of Februaruy. I am pretty sure that about this point in their respective drafts there was " no way" that Rogers and/or Quinn would fallen to the late teens. The unexpected can and does happen all the time.

Agreed I say no way in he77 anymore, especially in February.

We haven't even seen the combine yet. I believe Daryl Washington is hot right now. Iupati is hot right now.....and the second level DTs. There may be a small herd of DTs go off the board in the second. Carrington and C.J. Willson are rare beasts with thier size quickness and speed. Carrington is best for a 3-4. But i don't really think that means much anymore on third and long. Everyone is looking for the high end rotation defensive line guys.

would not suprise me if the Texans traded back like 08 & drafted Daryl Washington late 1st & used extra 3rd on a RB (Ben Tate).

I'd love a trade back, but in 08 there was a tantalyzing QB named Flacco that initiated the deal. Not sure there will be anyone on the board at our pick that makes anyone below us dial into our war room. 08 was an aberration not a trend starter. I would offer our first and a fifth for two of NE's seconds. Since we both like Kyle Wilson & Earl THomas, I would probably just stay where we are and get one of those two.
