Phil Buchanon - Breakout Season

I also think that Buch didn't have much over the top help in Oak. If you look at the season where Woodson was playing safety for them, he had a pretty good year. But when he left, Buchs #s dropped a bit I would assume.

Just saw this on Fox Sports about Phillip Buchanon and having a breakout season. IMO we could have one of the best secondaries in the NFL with D-Rob on the right, Phillip Buchanon on the Left, Glenn Earl at SS who showed good signs of improvement by taking the starting job midway through the season as well as 2 years off a serious knee injury, and Marcus Coleman at FS which was his position he played in college as well as a year to get adjusted back to it, along with Demarcus Faggins, who has come a long way, playing the nickle back position.

Phillip Buchanon was not a good cornerback with the Raiders, but he might be one of those players who benefits from a change of scenery. Buchanon's technique was inconsistent in Oakland, so it's possible he could respond well to the strict tutelage of Texans secondary coach Jon Hoke.

Buchanon has embraced the opportunity to play for a new team, buying a house in the Houston area after commuting from Florida during his three years in Oakland. He also should benefit from the direction provided by Texans receiver Andre Johnson, who is Buchanon's best friend from their days together at the University of Miami.

I think that Buchanon will be better due to the fact that he would be tested as much as he was in Oakland. I mean Robinson is good, but he doesn't have the title of "shut down" corner that Woodson has.

I think he will be good. As long as we get get pressure on the QB, the corners and safteys will do their job perfectly. You can only stay in single coverage for so long.

if this transpires Jon Hoke will become a hot property & deserve most of the credit :homer:

also Faggins will play alot @ one of the CB positions with Dunta playing more nickle freeing him up to be the defensive playmaker & team leader

This is very true. We forget how much we put Dunta in the Nickle.

If Fangio's complex scheme struggles again this year I'd say Hoke would be our leading candidate to be our next DC.

Anyone else notice that the article said that Phil commuted from Florida to California for 3 years while with the Raiders but he has already bought a house here in Houston? Is it football season yet?

That's cause Casserly talked to Buchanan before the trade and said that he had to live in Houston or Casserly wouldnt go through with the trade...

If he would of said no then Casserly would of said no to the trade and Buchanan would still be in Oakland.

I'll try to find the article I read it in...

Would be nice to read. No biggy though... I was just trying to imply that he chose to agree to the demand and buy the house because he wanted to do what it took to come here.
