5.) Robert Johnson, FS, Utah
6.) Stafon Johnson, RB, USC

Never saw him slated that high before, but I always love a good secondary pick in the first round.

Vladimir Ducasse, OG, UMass is supposed to be a late-first round pick by most projections. I somehow doubt he will fall to the third round unless he has a limb amputated.

Which projections would those be? He is not a first round player at this point.

I've seen mocks with Ducasse in the second and Houston in the third.

It's early to project a lot past the first at this point though.

I like the mock....Zoltan shows up on another and I thought that Blount has looked pretty good in early post-collegiate action.

Thx Hutto. I think its a good idea to groom a Punter before Turks leg rips off.

I'm not to high on Robinson, but we do need another CB especially if Dunta leaves.

Houston is a good pickup in the 2nd and I feel that's where he'll end up being drafted. Some people will probably disagree with the pick though because he doesn't weigh 480 lbs.

Ducasse's stock is plummeting after the Senior Bowl. He was originally thought to be a top prospect, but now nobody's sure about him. Wouldn't mind us grabbing someone like J.D. Walton here and moving Caldwell to Guard.

Blount is an explosive back and if he gets his act together he will be a force. A good pick for RB and the 4th is a decent area to grab him.

Johnson is a good FS prospect, but I don't really see him contributing beyond special teams.

I really like Stafon Johnson and feel for the kid, but I don't really like the pick with us already taking Blount in this mock.

I love Mesko, but he needs to get his stuff together before the draft. He was the consensus #1 Punter before the Senior Bowl, but now not everyone is sure about him.

Good dig on Mathews, but unfortunately I think he's to inconsistent to develop into a legitimate threat in the NFL. He was good when he had guys like Manningham around him, but he did not develop as an upper classmen.

Thanks for the analysis and input WolverineFan. I agree on Mathews, but its the 7th round, and I think he has the size and ability to be a fantastic special teamer and #3 WR.

Well, Vladamir Ducasse - VD for short - is projected as a late 1st round pick by the sites I've read. Even Lance Zerline (sp?) has him as the 32nd pick going to the Colts.

Absolutely love the Stafon Johnson pick. He does all the same things as Blount plus extra. If we could get him in the sixth then we don't need to waste a fourth on Blount. I don't think the injury will hinder his NFL career.

Some of those picks may not be possible for us but they aren't out of the realm of possibility. If it went down that way I wouldn't have very much to complain about.

As far as the other picks in the first round:

I think Jimmy Clausen will wind up as the #1 pick but it is well within reason that he does land where you have him.

I really don't see Pierre-Paul going that high. He has potential but I don't think anybody wants to risk the #10 overall on a one hit wonder, especially with Morgan still on the board. I think he can be a good player but I don't think he will have an immediate impact.

I really do not see Cody as a first round pick. I don't think his ceiling is very high and the bust factor is outrageous.

I'll be surprised if Wooton finds his way into the first round but 34 teams have been known to reach for ends.

You are probably right. The golden rule. Unless you have a franchise QB, draft one. But I am guessing that Jamarcus scares the Rams into a "safe pick." Whatever that is lol.

I was torn there. I think the combine will seperate those 2 guys. I just think the speed guy wins. And Jacksonville has been trying to get a quality pass rusher for a couple of years.

Cody will have to answer questions about why he came to the senior bowl so overweight, but I think someone who needs a big NT for their 3-4 will take a gamble on him late in the round. He deffinitly wont be available to SD in round 2.

The Jags might want to go with the slower and fatter DE this time around. The two they selected in 08 were speedsters running in the 4.5-4.7 range. They did very well in the other drills too. In other words, they're your typical workout warriors. :)

Why I just spent time posting about the Jags.....I have no idea

I have seen no where where Ducasse projects inside. If you know something we don't, do tell. However, a large guy who does project inside, who we know for a fact has the feet equal to Chester Pitts, who has a little mean streak in him, is on the board. Most teams do not have him this high, but for this team I think he works. Marshall Newhouse of TCU. I'm slowly warming up to Walton and Mike Johnson. I still believe we need a little size at RG. Caldwell could always put on another ten pounds I suppose.

Ducasse is a 6'5" 330 LBS monster who gets a great push in the run game. Reportetly has a nasty demeanour. Not to mention he has great footwork and range to get to the 2nd level.

From Scott Wrights draft countdown: "Could project to either tackle or guard at the next level and has experience at both positions."

He is also listed as a guard on WalterFootball.com

I thought about Lamarr Houston, but sort of shied away from him after looking at where most of his production came. It wasn't against the studliest of competition. I just don't know if he's anything more than depth...of course, depth is not a bad thing.

Houston had 10 tackles, 2 TFL, and a sack against Alabama in the National Championship. That sounds pretty studly.

JMO, but I think somebody will draft Ducasse with the intention of making him a RT.

That is quite a possibility. Different kinda player, but he reminds me of Phil Loadholt who was taken in the 2nd by the Vikings. So you are probably more correct that he will be a RT taken in the 2nd round.

Pardon my bad manners....great effort on the mock.

So I'm not saying first round....or even third round but another frog off the radar
is Joseph Turner. What do you think ? Correct size. Cheap in the fourth or fifth. Also the guy behind
Ryan Mathews. I believe his name is Lonyea Miller. I also believe the Aggies saw plenty of him in '08.
He's coming back from an ACL I believe.

Didnt see much of TCU and Turner, but really not enough catching out of the backfield. Had about 13 catches his entire career at TCU. I think the Texans will want a guy who catches more balls out of the backfield. But he does have the size we are looking for.

Lonyae Miller hasn't seen much action these past 2 season's with Ryan Mathews as the #1. Wasnt he injured as well? Also has good size at 220lbs but has small hands which might cause fumbling problems. And God knows we dont need more of that. Also had less receptions last season than Turner.

With a good combine both of these players should be drafted. Miller before Turner. But right now very late. 5th round for Miller. Turner later, possibly undrafted FA?

Basically what I am saying is that if we took one of these guys like you said, later in the draft, 5th round or later, I would be fine with it, as long as they fit our scheme.
