Congrats, Brian Cushing!

NEW YORK -- Brian Cushing has become the second Houston Texans linebacker in four seasons to win The Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

The tackling machine from USC, drafted 15th overall last April, is a runaway winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. Cushing received 39 votes, easily beating Buffalo safety Jairus Byrd, who had six.

WOW!! Fantastic news!! PLUS, he won by a landslide!!!

CONGRATS CUSH!! A well deserved honor!!

When do we find out who won ROTY?

I thought it was DROY and OROY only. Is there an overall ROY? If their is, Harvin will get it cause Favererer is his QB, but oh well. Kind of shocked to see him win so big, though he is well deserving.

BTW, worst call I've ever made on a rookie. I thought he was gonna be a dog.

I just wanted to add something. Please understand that I'm not saying this is why Cush got the award. Certainly his play has been proven on the field.

Darius Byrd had a great season too and was probably the most deserving aside from Cushing. Same goes for Clay Matthews.

I'd like to think tho that perhaps drafting these players from marketable schools like USC is one heck of a way to get the league and ESPN on your side. Granted the kid has to produce but you have to think that it helps.

Either way Cushing did an awesome job and I'm going to buy his jersey today.

Agree with you. Helps when people know who plays for you.

I have noticed this too, that's the way ESPiN rolls. They are a hype machine that loves to be proven right. This was particularly the case during the bush/vy/MARIO draft. They eventually had to shut up and quit dogging the Texans and endorse the Mario pick. But when bush/vy show flashes they slober all over them.

Whoever drafts Tebow will garner instant attention and praise to the point of nausea.

Be prepared with Tebow, because it looks like he's going to Jacksonville.

Cushing was a steal. Best LB in the draft easily to this point, top 5 impact and talent at #15. Great job Cushing! :ant:

I think back to the draft and I was on my knees praying that cushing would fall to us! Great player, great season, cush rules ass!

Can't wait for two former UUT qb's to be in the AFC South. Should be fun. Though, at least Schaub is the 2nd best QB in the AFC South by far. And that's not an insult.

I just hope MCcoy goes to an NFC team. This way we can see how Fox does things and how KEYE does things. I can guarantee you Fox aint pulling the Dallas game.

Nope, 2nd to a 1st ballot hall-of-famer isn't bad at all.

But THIS thread is all about the CUSH-BEAST. With his array of tools across the defensive spectrum, he's our football equivalent to the Most Interesting Man in the World.

I want Cushing to develop predator eyes for Peyton Manning. I would love nothing more than to see Cush bust through Indy's offensive line and just lay Manning flat on his butt, making him cough up the ball which is immediately picked up by Mario and returned for a TD. That's my daydream.

Whoop! Go Cushing!

I'm glad the other sportswriters didn't buy in to the Jairus Byrd hype..dude was the luckiest guy i've ever seen.

Once we sign Demeco to the deal he deserves we will have our linebacking crew that will be a nightmare for many years to come.

Right in line with me screaming at the TV in anger over the Titans selecting Chris Johnson. Sometimes, we get not so subtle reminders why we are watching games from the armchair.

Congrats on Cushing - you have a stud for the next 5 years+

In the 2010 season it's likely we'll have the best linebacking core in the league.

Congrats to Cushing. This award was well deserved.

The interesting thing for me was at the beginning of this years draft, all the media just wouldn't shut up about Aaron Curry. How he was the most sure fire LB prospect in the last 10 years and was gonna be a pro bowler etc.

Every game I saw him play in, he looked lost and out of his depth. I guess it just takes longer for some guys. Maybe next year he can deliver on his much hyped potential. I mean he didn't suck but he was far from the all world linebacker he was made out to be.

Congratulations Brian Cushing!

to be honest i was disappointed when the Malcom Jenkins was picked right before the Texans picked and I thought Cushing was a BPA pick and it probably was. I was really overwhelmed by his intensity and his game readiness that he exhibited i did not expect that from a rookie.

The best moment of the the year was when he had that saftey at reliant and he body slammed that rb to the gound. He stood up and posed ... I thought...dang we got a steal.

way to go Brian Cushing woooohooo whoooo

....McCoy has to beat Alabama all by himself, first.....

Congrats Cushing! Didn't know much about ya when the Texans selected ya - but I (and everyone else) do now. Come on the board so we can rep ya!

Sweet! He and D-Ryans are going to be fun to watch. Diles is getting pretty good too. That's one heck of a LB corps we have now.

You know whats crazy. I went to NFL.com and looked at linebacker stats for this decade. I had to go back to 2004 to find an OLB who even came close to compiling the all around stats Cushing did this year as a ROOK. Its pretty fricking amazing what he has done.

I laughed on draft day, and then got a little more worried when I read scouting reports. Was unhappy when I saw him in pre-season. Hope Slaton regains his rookie form so it aint no big thang.

Way to go Cush !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bravo:

I'm ready for the season to start.

Just think if he wasn't hurt all season. Rookie wall, what rookie wall.
