Jamaal Charles

I followed his career through high school and UT. If not mistaken he was chosen in the second round perhaps 38ish or something like that? Congrats to him for a great season.

The Chiefs were about to trade him to the Redskins at the deadline for a 5th round pick but the Redskins thought the price was too high for a backup runningback.

He was my favorite RB in that draft class (I'm a UT fan though so all y'all thought I was just biased). Great player.

I loved Charles through college and thought he should have been a first rounder. I just thought he needed to go to a team that would utilize his strengths as a runner. I hated it when the Chiefs drafted him though, because I didn't think they would use him right and they didn't until mid season this year. It's pathetic that LJ got all of those carries for so long they way he did. Charles has been a total beast the last 6 games or so. And the worst part is that ESPN never talks about the guy and they don't ever show his highlights either. I've barely gotten to see any of Charles's runs all year.

ESPN did mention that Charles asked to be removed from the game against the Broncos so that he wouldn't break the record for rushing yards in a single game.

Said that if he was ever going to break it he wanted it to be in a game that mattered, not in a blowout.

I'm just saying that ESPN has hardly talked about Charles at all this season and how great he's been playing. I haven't hardly heard jack about him or seen hardly any of his highlights. I'll have to check the NFL network to try and catch them or something, because I've been a die hard fan of Charles since he was a Freshman at Texas and I knew he would bea great play maker if he could be used properly. I wasn't always sure if he could be a runner in between the tackles in the NFL as an every down back, but I knew he could be a great player for screens, sweeps and many other types of plays. He's been doing it all though lately and I'm very happy to hear that. It's crazy at how long the Chiefs kept him on the shelf as well for this long.

Fluke. I want to see more before I take that tag off his name in my book.

Eh to each his own.

I heard or read somewhere that Charles became the first back in NFL history to finish a season with more than 1000 yards and less than 200 carries. The guy only started eight games and broke 1000 yards (968 yards in his eight starts). Averaged 121 yards per start (skewed by the Denver game, but he still averaged over 100 per start without that one).

so what is Mario in your book? you worship that guy who barely even gives an honest effort and has to be called out to play well and whose big games could be called flukes, yet Charles is a fluke....

....don't tell me, your an Aggie or a Red Raider fan...or just classic Houston sports fan where anything outside of Houston doesn't matter.

Grats to Jamaal for showing the tools he has. Chris Johnson Lite.

I wouldn't put the "fluke" tag on the guy just yet. But we've all seen enough one-year wonders come and go over the years to want more than one season's worth of stats before we pronounce him a wonder-boy.

I used to go to my cousins house and him and his brother lived next door we used to play football in the street with him
Did you body slam him when he tried to run by you and then scream "Not in my neighborhood!" while pounding you chest?:pissed:

I watched him completely dominate my school every year in HS and knew he would be something special...Mack didn't use him to his full potential in college at all.

I figured that you were from the country since Charles was from Port Arthur to have played against him in HS.

My buddy played against him in HS and he was from Orange Texas. He said that he played DT and got shook out of his pants by Charles in HS. Lol!

Charles did some big time damage his final year at Texas, but overall you are right.

Country? There ain't nothing country about Port Arthur or Orange.

Sure we may not be as civilized as true Houstonians, but we aren't country either.

{I need a stomp'n mad Mario emoticon here}

Charles was ahead of Slaton on my RB board for Texans in 08.

Drafting Charles would have made so much sense. Nothing against Slaton, & it's not that I think that much more of Charles. But you get a guy of at least comparable talent, plus he's a home town kid.

Not Houston home town, but close enough.

Earl Thomas would be the next logical choice, but I would bet money he won't be a Texan. I'm not going to pretend like I know why.

But at least we got Casey Studdard.

I never got the "home town kid" crap......couldn't care less about where a kid grew up or went to school at, when it comes to acquiring talent. I want my team selecting players who they think will help the team out the most (and for the most part I think they've done that).

I also want Houston to pick Earl Thomas if he's there, but it has absolutely nothing to do with where he went to school or where he grew up, it's because I think he's the absolute best player for this defense.....about where we're going to be drafting. (but he'll most likely shoot up the boards, so we'll have to look elsewhere)

Oh BTW, we can throw Casey Studdard back......Hopefully we upgrade the line and depth on the line in this draft. Even if we have to draft some kid not from Texas. :)

Maybe you missed the part where beerlover said he had Charles ahead of Slaton? It's not like I'm saying draft him simply because he's from Texas.

Same thing with Joseph Adai.... when we were looking to trade up to draft DeAngelo Williams..... I was thinking why not Adai... who I liked as much.

Earl Thomas, I think we can use his skills... if it works out that he's a value at the 20th pick, & he's there... why not?

& I'm no fan of Casey Studdard.

I had Charles' athletically above Slaton and had his max potential above Slaton, but I had Slaton above him as far as intangibles and skill went. Oddly enough one of the biggest reasons why I had Charles behind Slaton was because of his knack of always putting the ball on the ground in college, which is why I think he went in the 3rd round to begin with. Him sitting on the bench did him wonders.....let's hope Slaton rebounds in a similar way to his disappointing year also.

As far as Joseph Addai......I wasn't that high on him and I'm still not that high on him. I think in that system and with that QB, any RB with good talent can be highly productive. After his first two years there Colt fans were ready to run him out, because he ran soft and played lazy. That's the reason why Indy drafted Donald Brown this year in the first round.....and Addai responded and upped his game.

As far as Earl Thomas........absolutely love the guy. He's the ball hawking FS this team has been lacking since their inception. I have a feeling after the Bowl game and combine his stock is going to soar though and he won't be available with our pick. I hope I'm wrong.

Nah i'm from Beaumont. He was in West Brook's division for all those years, and every year he got 300+ yards in our meetings.

IM from port arthur and went to Thomas Jefferson I think he was a freshman the year after I graduated.

Of course he did miss out on an entire year as starting RB for the University of Texas. So we will never know what could have been.

I graduated from Thomas Jefferson, class of 1990

TK

So when did TJ become Memorial?

Titans no less. Ugh

Bring back the Bees and Jackets.

Leroy Posey and the Bees. " I don't wants to see you hit em, I wants to hear you hit em." Great quote from way back when.

Merging the Jackets and Bees should have put PA in the playoffs every year.

What happened?

ps Wife went to TJ, I was a BBHS Shamrock.
