Urban Myers is quitting

i just heard that as well. I wonder if it's because of something inappropriate or if he's headed to the NFL. (which would be a mistake in my opinion)
 
He's been a huge success with the Florida program. His health should come first. He can walk away and say he did a great job.

That'll be a huge job for somebody.

If they are going to interview anyone with a bowl game to play, I REALLY hope they wait until after the games. The whole Notre Dame / Brian Kelly made me sick to my stomach. Those kids at Cincinnati deserved better.

Id love to see Boise State coach Chris Petersen get it. Seems like a great guy and has been nearly flawless at Boise.

Id like to see his offense with those super athletes in Florida.

Yep...it would be a great fit, reminiscent of the fun-and-gun Spurrier days.

The talent they have on the team already combined with recent tradition combined with an amazing recruiting base combined with the slipping of Florida State the past few years combined with elite facilities and budget.

Yeah, I'd say it's the best job available. It's a better job than the ND job.
 
Wow...this guy went to the Nick Saban school of decision making.

NEW ORLEANS (AP)-Less than 24 hours after he resigned, Florida coach Urban Meyer is instead taking an indefinite leave of absence that opens the door for his return to the Gators.

Offensive coordinator Steve Addazio will run the team during Meyer’s absence.

Meyer said at a news conference Sunday that he was offered and encouraged to take a leave of absence earlier in the week. He said being with his players at a “spirited practice” Sunday morning persuaded him not to resign.

All that drama for a leave of absence? The sports stations acted like his heart could give out at any moment with a massive heart attack because of all the stress.

I dunno....I bet that just like a smoker, alcoholic, etc... he knows the stress will kill him, but can't walk away. It takes a really driven person to succeed in big time coaching.....and a little thing like "might kill you" ain't gonna make that drive go away.

Prepare for more waffling in the months ahead.

The story was presented so DRAMATICALLY on the ESPN shows....one of them compared him "resigning" to Jim Brown walking away from pro ball. I swear I thought the guy was hooked up to a heart monitor the way they were talking about him. And then the next day..oh wait a minute...I'm just taking a leave of absence.

Now that I think about it this guy is a drama king..I've seen him bawling at news conferences. Some people can't help having the " LOOK AT ME" terminal illness that is so common nowadays. He's one of them.

Was listening to ESPN radio out here, (yeah well you try and find decent sports talk in El Paso :) ) and that was the impression I was left with.

Going to have to make a call on if he thinks he can succeed while toning down how he approaches coaching. I don't know realistically if he can make those changes in a year, considering that means he'd have to trust his staff even more after losing Strong.

I also expect more waffling in the coming months as you said, but makes me really wonder how all of this is going to impact Florida's recruiting class this year. Is Meyer going to be the HC you are going to be commiting with or are you going to see someone else eventually?

Somehow I get the feeling he'll be the HC in some shape and form this year but wil lstep down next year for real when he finds out how many changes he's really going to have to make and won't be able to go about the way that got him there in the first place.

I like your thinking. Rep your way.

That's a coach who has made a HUGE impact, and with lesser talent.

He would even be a guy I would love as OUR head coach. He seems to know how make gameday decisions that puts his team in position to win. He just has that swagger about him. He stands tall, doesn't slink away and hide his eyes during big plays on the field.

He could get it done at Florida. I'll buy what you're selling.

But it looks like his retirement was just an Urban Legend.

The guy's future health could be at risk. You would think people wouldn't be so judgemental about him not knowing exactly how to handle it. Apparently not...

It's just all the silly drama to me..the guy is a major drama king.

I mean my way of thinking is the guy is bound to have the best medical care available in the world to him..ok he has had heart problems..he comes out one day and say he's retiring.

Then the next day it's wait..I'm better..I'm just taking a leave of absence.

He's a young man. Certainly the hope is he does what is best for his long term health and all that that but still...it's all SO dramatic on his part.

I certainly wish him well but he's definitely got a terminal case of "LOOK AT ME" disease.

Matt Elam, a 5 star safety, already backed out of his Florida committment and committed to Florida State.

I'm studying to become a football coach and I can't even begin to tell you the amount of stress that guys like Meyer go through on a daily basis. I have many contacts in the coaching business (as that is the only way you can get hired anywhere) and they would all tell you the same thing.

It takes an incredible amount of passion to be able to get up every day knowing that you have an 18 hour day ahead of you. There is no offseason for college coaches. There is no time off. If you don't absolutely love your job you will not last.

Taking that into consideration, I can see how Meyer doesn't know how to proceed regarding his situation. On one hand, he loves his job. The very last thing in the world that he wants to do is quit coaching. On the other hand, stress is a primary risk factor for cardiovascular heart disease. And if he keeps it up he is going to die.

Let yourselves be presented with a situation like that and then tell me that you would know exactly how to handle it. Would you be able to give up the thing you love most (besides your family) in order to save your own life? Wouldn't your life seem so much less enjoyable after that?

I'll stick by what I said..with what I've seen and heard he was overly dramatic about it all but that's just him. Some people are just wired that way and he's the head coach of a huge big time college program that feeds that sort of beast.

I wish him well and hope he gets his health issues worked out. I certainly don't wish him anything but good health.
