Don't look now but the Texans are the #12 ranked Defense in the league by Total YPG. It's even a possibility to crack the top ten by week 16.
I know, I know it doesn't matter since the playoffs are nothing more than an exercise in "what if!!!" at this point, but wow what a difference. That's pretty impressive considering the start of the 2009 campaign and the fact that we faced the #1 Offense twice this season.
Here is the breakdown according to NFL.com (Two games in week 14 still pending.)
#12 Defense Overall
#12 Passing Defense
#18 Rushing Defense (Imagine if we didn't have those first three games)
I know it's fool hearty optimism at this point and everyone is tired of hearing "next year", and I don't want to wait anymore, but I'm excited. If this team can resign it's playmakers, and get the interior O-Line healthy (and maybe draft some help), get the fumbling fixed via whatever it takes like draft/FA or just kicking a couple of guys asses, plus get OD back, and draft some secondary, next year can be stellar. All of the above things needed aren't out of the realm of possibility.
With one more year of experience under the same DC, and the Offense getting back on track the sky is the limit!!!!
I'm sick and tired of "next year, just wait next year", but there is a lot to look forward too, regardless of what your opinion of what should happen with the coacking situation.
