2005 strength of schedule

The Dolphins have the most difficult schedule (which is one reason I believe they will have the 1st pick in the draft next year) while the Texans are log jammed with divisonal foes Colts & Jaguars. If the strength of schedule within our division is so close then it should be quite an interesting affair in 05.

Can you really determine the SOS for a team in '05 based on the '04 records? Has parity taught us nothing?

I bet teams that had San Diego on their schedule in '04 thought they were in for a cakewalk based on their (San Diego's) '03 record.

If SD would've lost the next one we would've seen Rivers in the 2nd half of week 3 if they were trailing @ the half. Hypothetically.
 
Yeah, I don't think strength of schedule is as prominent these days since the realignment of divisions and the planning of schedules years in advance (I think only two games a season are now based on previous records). Then along with parity, you just never know which teams will be strong from year to year.

Your thinking is correct on the 2 games based on previous record.
For those who do not know how the schedule is figured, here ya go.
1. You play everyone in your divsion twice (once @ their place and once @ yours)...that's 6
2. There is then a rotation from year to year among the AFC teams and the NFC teams where all teams in a particular AFC division will play all teams in a particular NFC division and no other teams from an opposite conference division. This results in ONLY playing the cowgirls once every 4 years. That makes 10
3. The same rotation of playing divisions applys within your own conference. For example we play all the teams from the AFC North this year. That's 14.
4. Then with the other 2 divisions in your conference, if you came 3rd place in your division last year (just like the Texans did) you then play the 2 other teams from the other 2 divisions that came 3rd in their division last year.That's 16.

Pre-Season games are usually agreed upon by the owners in conjunction with the NFL and their schedule makers ( we've played Broncos and cowgirls the past couple of years).
