Texans | Swinton Fielding Punts
Wed, 15 Jun 2005 05:39:49 -0700

Larry Holder, of the Daily News, reports Houston Texans WR Reggie Swinton has been working on returning punts during the team's current minicamp. He is apparently the favorite to win the job.

KFFL seems to give the Texans NO coverage compared to the other teams in the league. Atleast we know now that our entire team is returning punts in practice.

KFFL just scans the Teams local media coverage and take snippets and quotes from media reporting on the team as updates. Their lack of coverage is more of a reflection of our own media than KFFL. There used to be a day around Houston when the Team didn't have to cover itself. Since the Chronicle is a monopoly they just don't do a very good job.

Yeah, I understand that. It's just frustrating to see teams like the Seahawks get tons of little tid bits about whats happening and the Texans get This guy or That guy is fielding punts. I know it's the offseason but there HAS to be more news to report than that.

yeah, the Chronicle is a joke. I miss the days when we had two newspapers and competition from the Post kept the Chron honest.

But it's good to hear that the team is investigating all of our options for return punts. Special teams can often make or break teams, because controlling field position can either wear out your defense or wear out the other teams D. I'd like to see our average starting line-of-scrimmage be around the 40 (or better). :thumbup

There was a guy from the Chronicle there to do a story about the competition at runningback this year. Shortly after he got there Capers suited him up and had him working on returning punts....

That's pretty funny!

Wasn't Jammal Lord a QB in college, then a RB in his first year and now a safety. I'm not exactly sure its hard to keep up with him. lol:

He was a QB in college, and as Vinny pointed out he was never a RB here. He's been a project at S since his first year. He looks good back there, and I can't wait to see more of him during the preseason.

Ok, I'm all caught up. Now, I do think Jammal deserves a shot at returning punts but there is already a lot of competition for returning right now. I am sure he will get his chance to prove himself, though.

He does have a chance to be the back-up safety. It really does'nt matter, just get him on the sidelines and you multiply your trick play ability on offense.
