The problem is, this season, the players ALSO drank the Cool-Aid.
Once the playoffs were taken off the table, I really hate to say it,
they may go into "preservation" mode and play to stay healthy for
OTA's. If I were Kubiak, I'd play all the "young kids" on my roster.
Dan Orlovsky would start at quarterback, and Arian Foster, Jacoby Jones,
and Glenn Martinez would also be starters.
The players won't admit it, but if you listen to the postgame comments,
Kubiak really pissed them off with that silly 1st and Goal playcall, and he's
got some making up to do. Either way, I expect Bob to make the right
call come the offseason. This team has to beat the Seahawks, Rams,
Dolphins, AND Patriots to finish 9-7. Miami is still in the playoff hunt, and
the Patriots are also struggling (they lost to Miami today.) 2-2 to end the
year has us finishing at 7-9, with only ONE win against a playoff team.
Going 1-5 in our division, after 3 consecutive years of 2-4 in the division
is inexcusable, and will also weigh on Grandpa Bob's decision. 7-17, under
this regime in the division, is also difficult to stomach. Even the Chiefs
and Raiders can beat the Steelers, yet we allow Mark Sanchez to look like
Joe Willie himself against us.
I was wrong. I admit it. My bad. The evidence is just overwhelming now,
and Kubiak has removed all hope of reasonable doubt. I really wanted
Kubes to succeed here, and I believe he just lost the locker room today.
