The Referee Conspiracy

Joe Texan

Inducted 04
As I see it now I believe that there is a conspiracy and the Refs are helping the undefeated stay undefeated and tough luck to the opposition. Too many bogus Calls and bogus reviews to say it is coincedence. These Refs know when they blow a call but do nothing about it only to show up the next Sunday reffing another game. There are no disipline factors set up to guard the public from watching these bogus games. I am 99% sure these refs are on the take what with all the money floating around the NFL it is no suprise to me. If I had the money I would file a Class action suit to make the NFL come clean but for now we have to pay for our tickets to see who the Referee's want to win. Does not seem at all fair but what can we do?
You would think the NFL would want a fair game but it cannot be fair with the double standards of the Referee.

JT is right do you ever notice that with Texans games there is rare penalties called. Do you remeber the disconcerting signals call a couple of years ago??? The one foot means your established rule. The defensive holding on a player making a tackle of the ball carrier. There are countless other rare penalties that are called on the Texans. JT is onto something here because I have observed on here and with friends about the wierd penalties that happpen at strange time against the Texans.

I believe it is a conspiracy....and its name is Jerry Jones....(on rules comittee..chairman I believe)

I don't think there is an outright conspiracy. I do however think there is a noticeable tendency to protect marquee players with questionable calls, or in some cases no calls.

The Cowboys are one of if not the most penalized teams in the league. Jerry has mega power and influence but conspiracy? Bah humbug.

against the Saints on Monday Night the Pats had zero penalties enforced against them for zero yards

**whiff**

Cushing gets fined for hardly touching VY, and to begin with, that call was questionable. Yet Schaub was getting cheapshotted a $%$ ton in the last few years with no call, but they'd be hit with a fine after the game. They protect their precious superstars that sell jerseys and bring fans to the stadium, but do little in enforcing calls against average players.

Well lets start out with a game fresh in the memory

Pass interference.......ball uncatchable
moved the colts to 1st down from a third down
Ruffing the passer
moved Peyton up to 1st down on a third down

I am saying that there is to many blown calls to call it coincidense
especially on the "important"games

!!!!!!!!Bingo!!!!!!!!!!! In me and my wife's opinions.

listen to the latest show on 11/18, Mike Tirico talks to 4 different head officials from the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA. I think he talks to the NFL guy 1st maybe 2nd. He goes through everything a ref has to do in a weekly prep for a game. I believe in some kind of influence on the game, im not sure what but it make me feel better that the NFL has the refs competing with each other like they say they do....

This has been my thought for 30 years, first as the fan of a beneficiary team and now at the back end rooting for the Texans. There is no organized conspiracy. I don't even think there is a conscious thought to prefer most of the time but discretionary and every once in a while beyond discretionary calls tend league wide to benefit marquee players and marquee teams. I'll repeat what I said in another thread on this subject - I think Aaron Glenn used to get a lot of non-calls based on status. No way he gets called for the Reeves PI last weekend.

the Bills got these same questionable calls against the Dolphins

the problem is, you're only looking at it from the undefeated teams' perspective. you fail to realize that horrible calls are a league-wide phenomenon right now.

They are league wide right now, but my observation long pre-dates the Texans and comes from being a fan on the receiving end of many of the calls, the Cowboys.

Apparently, the NFL has now officially admitted that they blew that call. Not that it means anything now.

Bad contrast since I thought the Reeves call was BS. Real point was Aaron could have some contact and then Petey would have even less the next play and get called.

Oh, and PS to all the Texans fans so down on the Texans they tried to rationalize that as a good call on Reeves or called out anyone else for saying it was a bad call. Doesn't matter if it affected the scoreboard at all. It was a bad call and it is legitimate to say that or at least discuss it.

What Thorn said and Cak expounded on.

It is frustrating as a fan of the Texans - there were some huge penalties in the Colts game that were badly called. It is unfortunate that bad calls can sustain what ends up being a scoring drive that otherwise would've resulted in a punt.

Exactly..for 2 years they have been the most or in the top 2 in most penalized....and many happen during big drives, so that is just b.s. Now I can't remember over my 30 some odd years of fandom if there were other seasons...(I know everyone mentions the Irvin push offs) but it hasn't been that case for years.

yep, Cowboys are 2nd most penalized team int he NFL right now. the least? the Colts. clearly a conspiracy, except the next 3 lowest teams are the Browns, Falcons, and Jaguars. hardly the league's targets for protecting from penalties.

Yep. The Cowboys are good to go every game for mega penalities.

I think that the Texans are victims of their own mentality.

Before the first game, one of our players was stupid enough to announce to the world that their new DC had told them to be more aggressive and even get more flags. I dont remember the exact words, but it was to that effect.

Then the Texans have had some questionable conduct, a lot of stupid personal fouls, and it starts to build momentum.

Just like fumbling, once something starts, its hard to stop it. The refs know the Texans are playing "all out" and are encouraged to get penalities over giving up big plays, so they look for it more closely.

The Texans were not a very penalized team last year. This goes against the conspiracy. They are heavily penalized this year, due to sloppy play and stupid behavior that attracts more attention.

I didn't say anything about the Cowboys the last few years. Some of y'all try to make this into something it isn't. I did not allege any conspiracy or concerted action of any kind. Teams or players of any caliber will get called for obvious calls. Flozell leg whipping etc. is going to get called. False starts are going to get called, jumping off-sides, etc. That the Jags have a disciplined team doesn't in any way negate a slight shading in favor of stars. You really think if a hand brushes both Trent Edwards and Peyton Manning's helmet Manning isn't going to draw the flag more often?

It wasn't your comment Cak I even alluded to. It was Spurstexanstros who said Jerry was behind it all. He makes these assertions quite often and WWJD had responded to him.

As far as bias...yeah I think super stars might get a roughing call more than a scrub. It happens in the NBA and everywhere else too. I recognize that. This year, however, I don't find it to be a conspiracy, I just think you have tougher rules and worse refereeing

its funny you bring up this specific example.

i was watching both games side-by-side this past weekend (sports bar); Colts/Texans and Bills/Dolphins. Jason Taylor rushed Ryan Fitzpatrick and his hand barely grazed his helmet, which drew a 15 yard penalty. less than 30 seconds later, i looked over to the Colts game, and the exact same thing happened with Peyton Manning.

blame the terrible rules here and the terrible officials who are left with these tough judgment calls to make. there's no bias for any players.

yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with you, but rather piggy-backing your post to update the NFL's position on the Reeves PI.

The Reeves PI was on a 1st and 10 situation, so I have no reason not to believe that Manning would not have marched down the field and scored anyway. It's not like the Texans make adjustments at halftime like, you know, successful teams do.

Penalties have certainly hurt us, but not nearly as bad as the self-induced meltdowns by the team itself.

There are about 1900 plays per weekend. I don't think anyone is saying and I am certainly not saying every single time a similar play such as the example I gave happens only Manning and Brady will draw a flag. But if over the course of the season it comes up 20 times for Manning and Brady and they get the flag 15 times while Fitzpatrick and Edwards have the same situation 20 times and it only gets thrown 8 or 10 then that is a skew. I think that disparity exists.

LIsten to the NFL ref interview!!!!!!! It will give you better perspective and would be stupid not to hear if you have theories.....

jerry jones comment was referring to his desire to keep the Texans down. should have been more clear.

OK, I've seen you talk about this before....Jerry keeping a team out of SA, keeping the Texans down, etc. I hate to say it, but it is just fantasy my man. The man runs his own franchise. He has to worry about his own new stadium, getting his team to the playoffs and winning a game, etc, etc. I have a brother that works for them and they are single minded about what they do, day in and day out....sell suites for games, sell suites for events...make money and get the Cowboys better.

For one thing, Jerry and McNair are buds. McNair is another big money guy that helps in the league.

http://www.texanstalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=837279&postcount=128

Jones has also gained a friend and another big-market ally in NFL circles. Jones said McNair was "one of the top four to five owners" the moment he stepped into the league. He values McNair's integrity and commitment and took a boat trip with him this summer.

"He fires me up," Jones said.

"We're good friends," McNair said. "We work on a lot of things together that are league matters, and we're usually on the same side of the fence.

"As this has gone forward and we've gotten to know each other well, I'd say there is a high level of trust. We talk about a lot of things that are important to each of us and are helpful to each other."

Finally, if Jerry Jones had all of this pull where refs were manipulated and teams were put down, why wouldn't he just use it to influence his own games. After all, as a Boys fan I've waited longer than I have in my almost 40 years for another playoff win. Wouldn't he just try to get them to be a little soft on his team, make the schedule a little better...whatever it took?

The whole thing is silly.

I was just reading a story that implied that unless Wade gets the team to the playoffs and they win at least one game he is most likely gone. Of course I was just so sure he'd be fired last year after that Philly choke game and that didn't happen!

I agree with this post BTW.

haha. get over yourself. if not for Jerry, we wouldn't even have pro football in Houston.

this Cowboy hatred is just so immature and laughable. Ask Bob McNair, Jerry was one of the biggest supporters in his struggle to get the NFL back in this town. Even Bud Adams wanted another team here. I know that bursts the Napoleonic complex of many Houston sports fans but its the truth. No one is out to get us. Our teams just fail. Pure and simple.

The calls going against us are because A.) our team commits stupid penalties and B.) our team is young and that means you don't get as many calls to go your way. ALso we have a flatlining first time head coach who can't even watch field goals being made much less be man enough to get in a ref's face and go ballistic after a bad call. He has gotten better this year but he is still a carebear.

As Icak stated, when we had a veteran like Aaron Glenn, he didn't get the PI calls as much. He was jostling just as much as anyone else but he gets the benefit of the doubt. Quin does not and Reeves was just one of those Colts calls. There is NO vendetta against the Texans, however the Colts are the darlings of the league and the refs don't call squat against them ESPECIALLY holding calls. Peyton's line holds as much as any line but they are probably8 one of the least penalized holding call teams. I know they are the least penalized teams but that is part and parcel of having Peyton. Refs look the other way and love Peyton.

That guy needs to retire and go away for good.

Cortland Finnegan at the half and the referees shrug afterwards. There's not even a fine on these refs. Why? Because doing so is admitting wrong, and then everything else starts to pop up again.

I'm not just talking us either. How come Hocules got to ref after the debacle in San Diego? The only thing they did was make sure Hocules didn't ref SD games. You could also tell they were trying to make up for it later in the season when they had to win against the colts to get in the playoffs.

i can't find any cumulative stats on it, so i can't prove/disprove it. i'm not sure it's the case.

There are no stats. They don't compile potential call A actually called B or non-call C stats. This is my impression from both what I perceived was the favorable end and from the negative end in terms of teams I was rooting for. Team wise I think it is harder to judge but I think it stands out pretty plainly with certain individual players with Manning and Brady being at the top of the list.

It looks like somebody has the Cowgirl fans stirred up!:kitten:

I wouldn't call "stirred up." Some people just like to talk good, factual football without including ridiculous conspiracies. Sometimes a hatred can make some people lose all reality. I'm just not sure how many conversations turn back to the Cowboys.

Man another blown call or 2 today.
Horsecollar on us but just a tackle on Andre at the goalline. Absolute hogwash if you ask me. You would think they would do thier best when they blew it last week. Nope just business as usual

So were the refs supposed to know that we had some questionable calls made against us last week and let us get away with stuff they normally wouldn't have? I don't understand.

Most horse collar calls are trash but it is what it is. We got +15 from a horse collar ourselves. This was a very well-officiated game IMO.

Jacksonville was undefeated?

You've got to be kidding about the game today. Both teams got horse collars. The Texans got some gift turnovers and they had their chances. You can sit and nitpick games all year...the Cowboys got screwed on 2 TD runs by obvious holding calls yesterday but the reason they lost was bad defense and stupid plays. Most of the time when a team loses..its their own doing.
