I donated, but did not expect much at all to happen. The people behind the site proved me wrong though. Even though our team blows, I'm proud to say we have some of the most diehard fans out there. This billboard was put up today and the local media is already going crazy over it...wonder how long until ESPN and NFL find out about it :thinking:.
 
$5,500 for a month ,its usually around $10,000 for a billboard in a location on the freeway like that, but apparently they got a deal because the guy was a Raider fan from what I hear.
 
What difference will a GM make? He'll just be a puppet.

But, I guess you really can't put up a billboard that says "Hey Al, do the right thing - please, hurry up and die."

That would be in bad taste.

No one wants the man to die...well hopefully no one. However, its apparent his time is over. He made the Raiders who they are, and was key in the franchise being so successful many years ago...but he's also key in destroying the franchise he helped create.

Also, the petition is asking:
*We kindly ask for Mr. Allen Davis to remove himself as general manager of the Oakland Raiders Organization.

*We ask for a new General Manager to be hired with previous experience and success in the NFL.

*We ask for a new, SuperBowl Caliber Head Coach/Director of Football Operations to be hired replacing Tom Cable. Suggestions include Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden; or any other coach with similiar credentials.

*We ask the Owner and new regime to give the new Coach substantial power in hiring Assistants, installing football philosophies and most roster decisions.


The chance of him listening is next to nothing, but still, Raider fans felt like it was time to say something after 7 years of crap with no hope of things getting better.

Al was the original maverick owner wasn't he? His way or no way...

I have read his health is poor. He's an original for sure.
 
Yeah, Davis is pretty ruthless, prettying interesting read on how he "acquired" the Raiders. He doesn't look to be in the best shape either, he is 80 but looks much older. I hope he lives long enough to see the Raiders win another Superbowl, would hate to see him go before he sees his team return to glory.

Pretty sure we know who would win that contest by a landslide, especially on these forums. I did not know Bud was 86, he's six years older then Davis...damn does he age well. Sadly, I can't say the same for Davis...all those years of losing have to be getting to him.

If I had a choice between the two of them to own my team it would be the godfather all day everyday and twice on sunday. The guy has made some crazy moves in recent years but he was so on the money for so long he was bad to hit a bad streak sooner or later.

I'm guessing he means the NFL is better when there is more competition. Right now there are a lot of bad teams, and the AFC West is basically a shoe-in for the only decent team in that division (although I was almost proven wrong with the Donks 6-0 start).

And texanhead, if you want your team to go on a record-breaking season losing streak as well, feel free to take him, he's all yours :tiphat:.
 
I think the NFL is better when the Raiders are winning because you need a Bad Boy team that people love to hate. You can't hate on the Saints winning. I know we hate Manning, but he's a pretty ho hum likeable fellow in general, and Indy doesn't inspire nearly the level of blind fury the Raiders used to inspire with their cheap shots. The Pats are pretty capable (especially considering the general douchitude of Boston fans), but there is no hate like Raider hate. Well, maybe the Cowboys. But I'll be damned if I ever say the NFL would be better off if Dallas were winning.
 
Haha, good point. The Raiders were that "bad ass" team that many hated. Its hilarious now though, especially with some delusional Raider fans that continue to walk around thinking the Raiders are still bad ass.:headhurts:
 
It could be worse, the Raiders could have an owner more interested in his soccer team. At least crazy Al has put some talent on the field. Who knows, maybe Jamarcuss may have a Vince Young moment and actually mature.

Does this sign come in Brown's colors?
 
Actually wish Al had another team he was more interested in, the main reason we are where we are at is because Al is "too interested" in the Raiders :redtowel:.

I know when the owner of the Skins died some years back his kids could not afford all the taxes that came with inheriting the team and that's when Mr. Snyder purchased them...well it'd be strange with the Raiders being owned by somebody other than a Davis so that's that!

What's wrong with Modesto? I have a friend there and he loves it...he is weird though! :)

They do have a great McDonalds at 4 am when you are trying to get up to Reno or South Lake to go boarding. :cow:
 
It's not a terrible place, but not somewhere I imagine myself living at the rest of my life.

Also, you have brought up a very good point, the Raiders are financially the worst franchise in the league. Over the past few years I've heard Al has sold up to 20-30% of the team. I would not be at all surprised to see the Raiders sold once Al is gone.

Well Mr. Snyder has owned the Skins now for some years so if the taxes were high then for the Cooke family I can't imagine what they'd be now. Different state of course but you know Big Brother is the same everywhere...if they can get their hooks into people that wealthy and force them to sell I don't see much difference in a team in DC or California.

It's a truck stop with farms. When you get away from the coast in CA and head to the central areas you have towns like Modesto and Bakersfield. I have no clue what people do in those towns but it is very rural compared to the coastal area.

No offense to the Modestonites on the board but I doubt they would disagree.

Jokes aside, Modesto isn't THAT bad, you must have not gone downtown (no idea why you would want to though, with it being the #1 city for car thefts).
 
First, that is the coolest billboard I have ever seen. Is it near where he lives or the Raiders facilities? If Al hears about this it may just sink in. Well done. critical but respectful.

How is he losing money? That has to be just BS. He may be losing out on attendance money or projected luxury suite money but the TV contract money alone is enough to run any football franchise financially sound.

these owners make money hand over fist. why do you think it cost McNair so much to buy in? the revenue streams are all over the place. from jerseys, to Madden, to licensed merchandise, sponsorships, naming rights, local TV money, and concessions amongst others.

Davis is probably low end of the totem pole on local advertising, tv, and sponsorship but hes to blame for that. He left LA of his own accord. I just don't think he liked it in LA personally. He liked the working class ethos of Oakland, the underdog, but with that comes the lower gate receipts and profit margins.

I like the guy. He IS important and the league is so good partially because of him, but he needs to stop drafting people like Heyward Bey and Russell. Both guys had huge question marks going into the draft. I will give him a mulligan on Gallery because the general consensus was that he was ready to be a franchise OT and deserved such an early selection. He mishandled the whole Moss thing. He got Moss but once Gannon went down it was pretty much futile. Aaron Brooks? give me a break.

Al should try and hire Bill Cowher. Wow, that will make old school Steeler fan's blood boil. Raiders are the old school rival of the Steelers from back in the good ole days. Cowher would fit but he isn't going to want to move to Oakland. Yeah you can commute to some incredible parts of California but Oakland is not at the top of cities in the NFL. It's there with JVille and Buffalo.
 
Al seems inclined to be a tightwad when it comes to his head coaches..wasn't Lane Kiffen the one that sued him to get money that he said Al owed him?

Al said he quit..the coach said he was fired...something like that?

Shanahan sued him for wages owed per his contract and lost to Al's army of lawyers. Gruden didn't get all his money. Kiffin was 'fired' so he wasn't 'entitled' to the rest of his contract. That is how Davis rolls. You aren't asked to resign. He just fires you and rips up the contract because he thinks you were fired 'with cause'.

hopefully this billboard works and is a great example of cyber-activism at a grassroots level

Al is a piece of work for sure..I knew/read about the Kiffen stuff but didn't know about the others.

For all he's done to screw them up they have loyal fans.

Well its damn near impossible for any franchise to lose money, but with the way Al runs things it may end up becoming possible. He has a knack for signing bust after bust in the draft, that takes a toll over the years. He also has to overpay players SIGNIFICANTLY to get them to come/stay in Oakland. The Raiders also have the smallest stadium in the league, yet still have a hard time filling the stands. I would love for someone like Cowher to come in, but only if he is allowed to freely do what he wants; otherwise it will end up being the same situation we have now, a puppet for a HC.

Also, a bit of information I came across recently. The Raiders extended their stadium deal (in Oakland) to 2013...the new stadium in LA is supposed to be completed around 2014...:hmmm:.

*EDIT* Forgot to answer the first part of your question. Yes, it is very close to the stadium, I'd say about 1/2 a mile.

Just out of curosity but are the majority of Raiders fans in the seats season ticket holders or do they have a large pool of tickets for sale each game?
 
To be honest, I have no clue. I would guess the majority of those still attending games are ones that already paid for them and are season ticket holders. The attendance has been declining though, that I can say for certain.

Those two guys that are always shown on Raiders game broadcasts with the spikes on and their faces all painted with skulls and all that were at the Cowboys game Thanksgiving.

Must make for some interesting packing putting all that gear in a bag.
 
I wonder how it would be walking to an away team's stadium dressed up like that. They must get a lot of heat, but they still do it, so got to give them some respect for that.

You probably watched the game..they showed them several times.

I use to get a laugh when I had Cowboys season tickets out of the Skins fans that came dressed as ladies with the pig noses...they were hysterical. 4 or 5 full grown BIG men dressed as ladies. It was funny.

Those Raiders guys look like guys you probably don't want to mess with....they look like they should be playing.
