Walker Hurt In Practice!!!!

Calm down. Training camp hasn't even started and there's no reason for a starter to practice knicked up. A precautionary MRI is just that, precautionary. He's going to be fine.

Knicked up is one thing, pulling a hamstring is different.

Is this the same injury he had in the past or was that his groin?

Lets just hope it a minor injury. TJ will get his chance, but I don't think he needs to start on day 1.
I'm all for starting the guy on day 1, just like we started D-Rob & Babin
on day 1 last year. If we started 2 rookies last year, why not start just
1 this year. Let Walker be the reserve, if he ever heals up from this latest
injury.

i agree plus it will be better for us now and in the future IMO. IJ shows desire to play that GW hasnt showed in years.

i'm sure the injury's will turn out to be nothing. Im sure they usually practice in those conditions but no need for them too so early before TC.

That's ridiculous. This injury thing doesn't look like much to me. Besides, it's June and nobody schedules games in July either.

I'm not saying this injury is going to last till the season opener, or even training camp. However, I am saying that Mr. Walker is showing a pattern of being injured.

It's only June and he's hurt, to what degree, we don't know, but we do know it's not the first, or the second time he's been hurt. We also know a hamstring can linger on, sometimes doesn't heal to 100% without full rest, and can pop back up after it has happened.

Cause for concern, I think so, but like others have said, maybe putting TJ in from the start isn't such a bad thing.

Walker has played in 144 games in his 10 year career. Other than the '03 injury that kept him out of all but 4 games, Walker has been a horse. Sure he's getting up there in age, but he's still an established veteran and still has some juice left. The DE position is his to lose right now and I dont think an early June hamstring injury is going to change that.

Well said. Couldn't agree more.

4 Million dollars is a lot of money to be paying someone for a reserve spot, especially to someone that was in the probowl three years ago.

What makes you think that? From what I've seen from him this offseason, he's in better shape physically than he ever has.
A pulled hamstring is a freak accident. Its not something that's planned.

Everyone needs to calm down. We still have 88 days till our season opener with the Bills.
He'll be fine, and I guarantee you he'll turn heads again this season.

Where do folks come up with this stuff? Years? Walker had a bad year last year (with injuries). Year before that he was basically out the entire time. How does that show a lack of desire? Did Terrell Owens show a lack of desire when his leg broke? or Mike Vick? Of course not. Last time Walker had a relatively injury free season he was a pro-bowler. Maybe (and maybe not) his body is starting to break down, but that has zero to do with him lacking desire.

Walker was excellent in our first year (making the Pro Bowl).

However...Walker hasn't been the same since the Texans subsequently rewarded him with that big contract. Funny how this happens to alot of players.

GW is on the decline...but its not always obvious because the entire front 7 has been been bad the past 2 years....and the defensive stats bear it out.

Older players get more nagging injuries generally...and GW is no exception.

we definetly shouldn't throw Johnson in there from the start. Why do that when you have good experienced players to play it, and for him to learn behind? The right solution would be for him to switch off with the guys and learn behind them, instead of throwing him to the wolves.

That has more to do with the injury he had the previous season, not because he fell into a financial 'comfort zone'. Sheesh ....

Full Rest? Well, Walker will be held out of the final mini-camp practices, and will have until training camp to heal up. How long is that? A month and a half? Is that long enough? He could even stay out until the start of the season to heal up if needed and that will give him about 3 months. Is that long enough? Help me out here.

Easy killer, he's not hurt, I'm sure he's got the sniffles or itchy-butt or something. Dom takes care of his vets and he's not gonna overwork his guys. They'll give him some made up injury so he don't look like a grampa over there in the sideline. And even if he really is injured, so what. He ain't that good. He also seems like he's accepted losing, I mean just look and listen to how he composes himself after a loss. Do worry about TJ and his over extended elbow. They won't give a rookie the "stomach flu" or anything like that, he's really hurt yet it does seem minor though.

Don't be surprised if TJ is the wolf. :)

Bring out the shotgun Old Walker is done for.
I hope the season starts soon so I can hear something logical come out of peoples mouths. Until you hear some definate news don't make assumptions. He is not out for the season or anything like that. I am actually looking foward to the pre-season. :monkey:

I think you have a serious misread on Walker. He hates to lose and is outspoken about it time and time again. He is also in great shape and will be a force this year.

This is likely one of those injuries that they will take a precaution on but if it was gameday he would be playing. We always see a ton of those kinds of "injuries" throughout the offseason. No point in aggravating it any worse than it is.

I may have a misread on Walker but it isn't a sreious one. I also did not say he doesn't hate losing, just that it seemed as though he's accepted it. I hope you're right about him being in great shape but turf toe (last years injury) doesn't go away (see Eddie George). As far as him being a force, it'd be nice but I ain't holding my breath.

He's one of our few pro bowlers. We seem to lose faith in our injured Texans so easy around here. Texans84 was at his house the other day and he looked fantastic and says that is behind him. He's one of my favorite Texans.

This is a tempest in a teapot. Much ado about nothing. It's making a mountain out of a molehole. He just needs to take it one day at a time. Hey, No pain, no gain. Him getting back to form is a no brainer. Easy as pie, like a hot knife thru butter. I'm sure he'll take one for the team. The fat lady hasn't sung yet. It'll be like shooting fish in a barrell. He may be over the hill, old as dirt, and a little long in the tooth, but I see the light at the end of the tunnell. He may have lost a step, but should he throw in the towel? I say he needs to keep fighting the good fight, overcome all odds and give 110%. That's my two cents.

I too always eagerly await the first preseason game. Then after the first quarter of the first preseason game I once again realize that preseason football is not football. Please let the regular season start soon. :penguin:

So many people do lose faith in our players when unpredictable things go wrong. I don't think I could make it through a game (let alone a season) recovering from turf toe and a nagging shoulder injury, while being 6 foot 2 and 305 pounds.

Turf Toe is more serious injury than it sounds. When a player sustains a turf toe injury they are actually tearing the capsule that surrounds the joint at the base of the toe. Tearing this joint capsule can be extremely painful. Furthermore, tear of the joint capsule can lead to instability and even dislocation of the joint at the base of the toe. This may lead to accelerated cartilage wear and arthritis of the big toe.

On a positive note, looks like no other alarming injury related to the hammy:

Megan Manfull, of the Houston Chronicle, reports Houston Texans DE Gary Walker (hamstring) rejoined his teammates Tuesday, June 14, but he did not practice because of a pulled hamstring. An MRI revealed no other significant damage.

Thanks 84, been waiting for the MRI update.
