Fire Matt Schaub

eriadoc

Texan-American
After his comments today, I'm a lot less inclined to tolerate his weak arm, boneheaded ill-timed decisions, and lack of clutch. He can kiss my ass and GTFO of Houston. He's a glorified backup that puts up a ton of worthless stats. He may pass for the most worthless 4000 yards in the history on the NFL this season.

Who would you rather have at QB? Schaub is our best option and people are blowing this out of proportion.

Draft his replacement and start grooming him. Maybe we can fleece someone for a couple draft picks in a year or two.

As for "blowing it out of proportion", these guys are millionaires that get paid to play a child's game. Those of us that work in the real world and struggle to scratch out a life for ourselves don't care to hear some prima donna athlete tell us what to do with our discretionary income. It's not being blown out of proportion at all. If anything, the fact that he's so freakin' clueless and out of touch with normal people is being downplayed.

Agree. I'm a season ticket holder, and yes, I think Matt should have picked different wording, but let's not burn down the house. Trust me, going to those games is not cheap. But I think this is being blown up just a little bit.

And, QB's are hard to come by, and a QB with Matt's potential is damn near impossible.

That doesn't excuse what he said, of course. He should apologize to the fans and remember that we're not all millionares, and he should be happy we show up for the games at all.

Hey man calm down! Yeah he has no physical gifts as a QB but using his comments as a reason to fire him is ridiculous! All he said was stick with us, he never blamed the loss on the fan or anything offensive. Come on you guys! Some people are over reacting here.

Why do Houston fans leave early?I mean in all sports(maybe not the Astros games).I guess the Texan fans would stay if we were in the playoffs unlike the Rockets fans.I had to put that out there.Boo to his comments though.

You know, that's what gets to me the most. It's the sense of entitlement. It's bad when you see a sense of entitlement on anyone, but even worse when it's a millionaire.

When you listen to exactly what he said, it's not really that bad at all. If you just read the excerpt, it's kind of taken out of context. There's a whole thread about it already.

I listened to exactly what he said. Also, if you read my post in the other thread, I let my wife listen to it completely blind, to see what her unbiased reaction was. She's a fan of Schaub, and she started yelling at the computer.

I do not feel the need to defend a millionaire. I also do not understand how people can listen to a prima donna millionaire tell them what to do with their discretionary income.

I think St louis will want COlt mcoy

and they prob wont let us take there spot

Why would the Rams want Colt when they could choose from Clausen, Locker or Mallet? Unless its uncapped year they still have Bulger for another year or two. Colt fits the Denver/KC style offense anyways and most people have Bradford about McCoy. McCoy is a great college QB.

Fire Gary Kubiak.

Keep Schaub, draft Ponder (who will be a 2nd-4rd rounder due to his injury) to groom for a few years--draft another WR to compliment AJ (who will be 30 soon) and draft a power running back.

Yeh fire the bum, this team is used to better QBing. I mean only 3200+ yards, 67.8% completion, and 21 TD's/11 picks. There are at least 5 other QB's in the NFL with stats better than those, oh wait they're all under contract for like 15 more years.

football is a game of emotion :potkettle:

yeah, but usually these threads pop up on sundays, but on a monday night? Usually you want your Qb replaced because he has been playing like crap for awhile. But because he said something that some people misconstrued? Especially when a good Qb is harder to find than a good and honest mechanic.

Yah stats tell the whole story.. seriously people need to look beyond the stats.

Give Schaub a year with a new head coach. Go BPA in the first 2 rounds and draft the best Center available with the 3rd Round pick. After that get some depth at the lines on both side.

We don't need to draft a QB. Schaub has put points on the board. We need to change our identity from a passhappy offensive team to a defensive team that can actually run the ball and throw the ball as well. Schaub can be part of that. I am all for getting rid of players when they stink but Schaub doesn't stink. He has made some plays this year. We just find new and exciting ways to lose.

I agree with your point, but to throw out even more statictics, teams that have QB's with these kind of number aren't ussually under .500. So I'll go with the odds and take the guy with the stats the majority of the time.

One could argue that VY doesn't put up the stats (yesterday excluded), but wins. I would still go with Shaubs stats over the other guy.

I knew the threads would start to get wacky this week. I'm glad I ran my thread topics through the super thinktank-0-matic before I hit the new thread clicky.

People that want to replace Matt Schaub seriously need to take a minute to look around the league. We've got a top 10-12 QB, a franchise QB. That isn't something you give up under any circumstances short of him getting arrested for felony dog fighting.

Seriously. Get rid of Schaub? These three losses are really getting to some folks heads.

Bradford, Locker, and Tebow will all go before McCoy. Maybe even Clausen. And that's a shame, because someone will get a steal with that kid. He's better than VY, Leinart, and Cutler. Maybe the Texans will take him in the 2nd round. Or maybe Bud will screw us again and take him a couple of picks before us.

Yah Vinny you've never said anything negative in a thread..

:worldpeace:
This isn't about negative. It's about actually finding out what was said and thinking for yourself instead of letting others think for you. All the angry people are the ones who didn't really listen to the interview.

My problem with keeping Schaub is I'm not sure if we can just sign him to one more year. I think to get him back we'd have to opt for the three year extension that was part of his original contract. Problem with Schaub is he hasn't been terrible this year but like this past Sunday he's made costly turnovers in the form of pick 6s.

I'm not posting after a few months to blast the organization, but while Cushing has exceeded my expectations, Barwin has struggled for the most part, and Caldwell hasn't seen the field. I think we needed a much bigger contribution from both draft spots then we have gotten, and frankly I'm a bit dumbfounded that Alex Gibbs has not been able to round out the line better then what it is. Is it on the RBs? Not getting the right players for a system? Again I have trouble pinpointing what is exactly the disconnect with a guy whose OLs have been highly productive and produced a consistent running game wherever he's been but here.

Jones is finally looking like a contributor, but is he good enough to take over #2 if we don't resign KW? I don't think so. Molden also hasn't found his way on the field and has seen two rookies leapfrog him.

I guess I am saying overall the talent on the team has improved but, there's still something oddly wrong about the way they go about evaluating talent. Does that go on Kubiak? Smith? Bob McNair's pension for players nice as Mr. Rogers? Bobby Grier?

I think it is made harder by the ambiguous way personnel decisions seem to be spread between Kubiak and Smith. Front office needs to be cleaned out IMO.

Boy I swear, people sure as hell seem to forget some of the great plays and drives that Schaub has had this season. He put this team in position in 4 different games where we could have either won or tied up the game on some very impressive drives. It wasn't his fault that both Chris Browns screwed away 4 different games where he put us in position to win the darn thing or tie it up. Hd we won those games, we'd be 9-2 instead of 5-6 or even won just two of them we'd be 7-4. Kubes was the guy that made so many bone headed decisions in these games and came out with such flawed game plans in 2nd halves of these games.

And look at how many points Schuab put up in quite a few of these losses and the amount of TO's he's had to deal with from all of these fumbles from Slaton? Schaub has done his part this year. It's not his fault that he's had no running game to fall back on and a terrible defense that's forced him to throw so much.

Schaub's actually been one of the positives this season. He isn't perfect or anywhere close to it, but he's a good enough Qb to win with and he's much better than plenty of QB's around the league. We'd be fools to just throw him away right now and draft someone new. That would set the franchise back at least two years most likely.

Bah. Schaub is Top 10 at worst, Top 5 at best. Keep him and draft Colt to groom. Colt is perfect for this offense, and will satisfy a lot of homers. Though I do dread the "WE WANT COLT" chants after a single turnover by Matty in 2010.

Sorry man. Have to disagree about Schaub. I think he's earned his fat bonus and extension. He's our franchise qb.

As to the second bolded point, I think there's something odd about how we USE the talent we find.

Yep. It's almost laughable. Schaub has been saddled with the "if he stay's healthy" label for three years. He promised us that he would start all 16 games this season. Now that he's almost done that (and put up major numbers to boot) we're picking the guy apart for some bad plays here and there.

Ridiculus.

Based on? This year when he's finally managed to get through a season? I'm not saying he stinks but, he's not the type of player that can lead his team to victories despite a questionable defense. He's not elite IMO and I'm not sure I want to commit that much money on a guy I'm not sure of.

On the second part, again I think there's a disconnect somewhere between scouts, the coaching staff and GM, but again who does that fall on?

What makes you say that? As I've posted twice now, I listened to it, and I was offended by what he said and the tone with which he said it.

As for the stats argument, as I said at the beginning, Schaub's 4000 yards this season may be the most worthless 4000 yard season ever. Maybe Cutler's last year qualifies, but they were actually in it until the end. This team is now playing for the same thing they play for every year in December - to worsen their draft pick. That's it.

*sigh*

We've had so much success as a franchise with quarterbacks, that I can't wait to start over with a new one.

And oh yeah, Im sure AJ will be even more inclined to stick around once he finds out the only guy we've ever had who's able to utilize him properly is going to get cut from the team.

The offense likes Schaub. He's calm, he shows good leadership, and he puts in the work that our previous #8 never could. QBs are difficult to come by in this league.

Who the f cares what he said about the fans. I don't feel sorry for the team at all. Its their fault the fans left.
And I don't feel sorry for the fans at all. Quit with all this pissing and moaning about how they spend their hard earned money to go to the game.

If the money is that hard to come by, dont' f'ing spend it on a football game.

The Texans play entertaining football. Its a game. Only 1 team is going to win each week. If you're going to whine about how much money you wasted by watching the team lose, then you're a fan of the wrong team.

Anyone who thinks they've wasted ANY money this year or is worried about making ends meet bc they went to the Texans has a lot bigger problems than Schaub

If the Texans pay the bonus to Schaub, he gets $10M, plus base salaries of $4.5M, $5.7M, and $7.15M in '10, '11, and '12 respectively. That's $27.35M total, or an average of $9.12M per year. To put that in perspective, in 2008 (I can't find the data for 2009) there were 12 QB's who had cap values of $9M or more. Additionally, Josh Freeman - the 17th pick in the 2009 draft - received a signing bonus of $10.245 million (As a component of a 5 year contract).

David Garrard got a 6 year deal with $18M in guaranteed money before the '08 season. Jake Del Homme got a 5 year deal with $20M guaranteed before this season (insane, but reality), Heck, Marc freakin' Bulger got a six year $65M contract with $27M guaranteed before the '07 season.

What this tells me is that while I wouldn't characterize Matt's option as a bargain, it's certainly not paying a market premium to keep him. Essentially, if you believe he's a top-12 QB, it's a very fair deal from the Texans point of view. If you believe he still has upside (remember, if he makes it through the entire '09 schedule, he'll still only have 2.5 seasons worth of starts under his belt), it's pretty much an offer you can't refuse.

This is such a BS take on what he said. He didn't tell anyone how to spend their money. If they were at the game they already decided how to spend their money. All he said was stay to the end. There is no money involved in that statement at all.

All of you Schaub haters are blowing this way out of porportion. What he said about the fans was not bad. All he said is the texans are not gonna give up on us so dont give up on the texans which is 100% true.

God forgive anyone interject logic or context.

It's just an excuse for those that never wanted Schaub or think Schaub sucks to point their fingers and say "See, I told you he was a POS!". -or better yet "VY wouldn't ever criticize the fans".

You guys are right this is whole problem with Houston as a whole there is no unity!

That's not the quote that's causing all the uproar.

People are PO'ed because he told a caller "you don't want to to be a fairweather fan."

It's not anyone's place to dictate fanhood except for the fan himself. The word "fan" being singular.
