Thanks for your support!

Anyone still think Dunta deserved a bigger contract?

And to think some of you thought he was the "still the best cornerback on the team".

Unbelievable.

Someone is still going to pay him. I have changed my stance though and hope its not us. I don't think it will be. We will likely offer him a contract but it will be (better be) significantly less than what he was offered this off-season. He will then proceed to throw a hissy fit and test FA only to find it was about the market rate.

When the season ends, he might be kicking himself for not taking the offer that Rick Smith gave him. He may look very foolish if he does not get a sizable guaranteed contract in the off season.

Yep, but he'll leave out of spite, and then in his press interview go on and on about the losing culture of the Texans, and how he's ready to help the Detroit Lions turn things around.

We can only hope. With the way he has played lately that would be very satisfying.

Robinson is up for a huge award. Huge ! And it's the award for being the biggest con-man in Houston, TX. And Rick Smith deserves the award for being the biggest suucckker in Houston, TX.

Ultimatly, Rick Smith looks pretty good right now in my opinion. Had Dunta played his ass off, we'd all know that he was leaving anyway or holding the team hostage at least. Had we parted ways and Dunta played well somewhere else, we'd all be out for blood. This way, we cut ties and we can all feel good about it.

I want Dunta gone and will be relieved when he makes a grab for the first contract thrown his way this off-season. Dunta brought an attitude into our locker room that was counterproductive this year and I'll always fondly remember his greedy little ass as our first "home grown" cancer.

Anyone who thinks Dunta has had a good season is high. He's been a train wreck and helped to cost us games in the process.

Rick Smith and the FO made out like bandits this year with the contract situations. They offered top 5 money to all of the guys in question and ALL of them have taken a hit in value. Next year, all of the guys should be given reduced contracts to the ones offered this year.

He's a linebacker in a corners body. He makes the big hit occasionally but spends the rest of the time getting burnt and drawing pass interference calls. Worst 10 mil spent ever.

10 and 12 yard completions are now considered getting "BURNED"? :roast:

D-Rob is no superstar, and he was crazy to turn down the contract the Texans offered him. He was nuts to hold out when they gifted him with the franchise tag. He's going to regret it, just like the Texans would have ended up regretting giving that kind of contract to him.

Ever since his injury he has sucked in run support. He's never had great ball skills, or been an amazing playmaker.

That said, people who think D-Rob has had a bad year in coverage are one of three things:

1. Clueless
2. Blind
3. Stupid

Pick one.

There are 64 starting corners in the NFL, and there are not 20 that can cover better than Robinson. Saying that he couldn't find a starting job ANYWHERE in the NFL is completely asinine.

People have clearly let their personal feelings about Robinson's offseason shenanigans cloud their judgment to the point of the absurd. He was MUCH worse in 2008. He was MUCH worse in 2007. He was MUCH worse in 2006. Etc. etc. etc. In 2007 people absolutely ADORED him, hailing him as a sure probowler. They got angry and fumed when the media didn't give him any respect. Now he is MUCH better in coverage, and mysteriously people are saying he's terrible. Hmm, I wonder what's changed.

Only in Houston could a player have a career year and be vilified for it.

Before anyone calls me a D-Rob homer, leading up to D-Rob turning down the crazy Gamble offer we made, I was one of only a few people around here who said he was not an elite corner, and never had been. Certain folks around here took great issue with my criticism, and were especially shocked that I would dare call our best corner 3rd tier.

I didn't think he was worth that level of contract then, and I wouldn't offer it to him now. He's just not that level of elite player. I would like to have a top 20 cover corner back on the team if the price is right. Anybody who thinks the defense would improve if they let the 3rd least thrown at corner in the NFL walk are fooling themselves.

problem is that he wants superstar money ..

I have gotten to the point that I honestly can't wait for him to leave town

Dude, you should put the crack pipe down. Week after week I watch Dunta go out there and embarrass himself and week after week I watch you come in here like his ****ing boyfriend and defend him. I'm afraid you're either watching another team play (Texans logo is a cow, just "fyi") or you're his agent or something.

Put me down as clueless, blind, stupid, and fooling myself then. Dunta had chances to prove his worth ($10 million) for this franchise this year.

I dunno but Bob McNair might take exception with your analysis, since maybe he thinks Rick Smith should be able to figure this out without spending 10 M bucks of his money ?

Define "embarrass himself".

He's 16th in the NFL in receptions allowed, and 18th in yards allowed. That is good to very good.

The post you quoted was half criticism of D-Rob, so get a grip on your BS.

Put the haterade down, and stop acting like his spurned lover.

curious, where are you finding those stats?

I am searching NFL.com but not having any luck

i just see the basic int/pd/ tackles stats

Receptions allowed being everything right? No, not really. The guy has become a penalty factory. We spent most of the second half watching him today asking ourselves "Who is Dunta covering anyway?" He plays so far off the receiver half the time you can't even tell what he's trying to accomplish with that mess.

Anybody that thought the post I quoted was even close to "half-criticism" of Dunta is either

"Career Year" eh? Yeah, your criticism of Dunta was epic. I don't know what I was thinking calling it all bullshit. Look man, Dunta is having a **** year not a career year. The eyes don't lie no matter how hard you try to make a case for the statistics. I'm not upset over his off-season shenanigans at all. I'm upset over his play since he rejoined the team following his off-season shenanigans.

Hell I'd give anything if he'd play like he was worth half the 9 million he's stealing right now. Not going to happen though. He's playing because he's making franchise money not because he's any better than Quin at this point. Of that I have not one doubt. A rookie CB makes the kind of mistakes Dunta does every single week and does it cheaper as well. If I were Bob McNair I'd be trying to dock Rick Smith's pay for franchising this pompous little asshole.

stats are good stuff but they're not coming close to telling the whole tale on Dunta Robinson in 2009.

Dunta has been absolute garbage this season. Anyone that thinks otherwise wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. How are we supposed to take any chart with Darrell Revis as the 18th best corner seriously.

And to think some of you thought he was the "still the best cornerback on the team".

Unbelievable.

Before this season began I don't think that it was unreasonable to think that he was the best corner on the team if you looked at the performances of Bennett and Reeves last year. So at the time, it was a rational take.

But I guess you know everything, never been wrong about anything, right?

Dunta needs to be paid by the unemployment line. Or play basketball where they foul on purpose ....

Ok, so not "half", only about 1/4 was criticism. :gun:

There's simply more to criticize about the clueless posters here, than Robinson. What can I do?

Receptions allowed being everything right? No, not really. The guy has become a penalty factory.

Yes, yards and receptions are kind of important stats. People point to stats like that when they want to talk about how good their favorite players are. Suddenly the stats say a player is good that you don't like, so they mysteriously don't matter, or are misleading.

We spent most of the second half watching him today asking ourselves "Who is Dunta covering anyway?" He plays so far off the receiver half the time you can't even tell what he's trying to accomplish with that mess.

He was covering this thing that people with football knowledge call a "zone". He goes to a spot on the field and covers this mysterious "zone" and it's commonly referred to as a "zone coverage".

So you can't actually support your opinion with anything, you just 'feel' he's playing poorly. Ok, so you're in the 'clueless' category, as you don't even know what zone coverage looks like.

Dunta has been absolute garbage this season. Anyone that thinks otherwise wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground. How are we supposed to take any chart with Darrell Revis as the 18th best corner seriously.

Revis isn't the shutdown corner everyone makes him out to be. He has excellent ball skills, plays the ball well, and is good in coverage, but he's not the best cover corner in the game.

Consider also that 174 corners have played in the NFL this year, so 18th is rather high.

Got it. You think his stats tell the entire story. That tells me everything I need to know.

When someone who falls into the "Stupid" category calls me "Clueless" I have a hard time feeling insulted.

Stay classy Herv.

I mean seriously. How can you say that D-Rob sucks, when you don't even know what the hell you're looking at? You don't even recognize zone coverage when you see it, but you think you can judge players performance. Based on what? Do you just guess whether they were doing their job or not?

I've seen enough pass interfernce penalties and Dunta getting burned not to fall into some of the b.s. some are selling here. The guy has looked pedestrian this year.

I am confused.

Is Dunta really deserving of the contract, or not?

Oh, and maybe he just wants out of Houston. Of course, he'd be taking a big gamble by leaving this team right now. We're almost there.

Of course he wants out of Houston. That part is kind of obvious I think. I don't think he's worth what we offered him last go round and I seriously doubt he'll accept less than that next year. Plus somebody will decide that he's worth too much and pay him.

Then it's a win-win.

Dunta gets to leave, and we get to find someone less douche'ish.

Hot damn, I think we solved the puzzle.

at this point since PLayoffs are fading

i would rather see what we have for the future No matter how good dunta is or not

i would like to see one of our Rookie CB and Reeves to rotate IMO

Having watched every Texans game this year here is what I think tells the tale of why D. Robinson looks like a soup sandwich this year:

Times I have cheered (good) when Dunta makes a good play - 1, maybe 2

Times I have yelled (bad) when Dunta makes a bad play - it's in the double digits. At least a dozen (this "stat" is derived from missed Int's, poor tackles, pass interference calls, selfish acts, and over all bad coverage).

I don't need no stinkin' stats to show me that D. Robinson is in no way even close to earning what he held out for/franchised for earlier in the year.

sigh, stats don't tell the whole story, and Dunta is not the 18th best corner in the game and I don't need stats to tell me that.

No, he has been terrible.

We'll have to do something about the corner position in the offseason as I don't see enough depth behind Quin and Reeves.

LOL, there's no way in hell Dunta is the 18th best corner in the NFL. Whichever site those stats were pulled off of that site needs to be shut down. Either that or those stats need to be disregarded altogether.

I'm starting to question whether or not Dunta is even a legit NFL starting CB - post injury.

He's clearly not the same player and frankly it's extremely sad watching him try to "keep up" out there. If it wasn't for his "tenacity" (which at this point is just sadly knowing when he's beat and grabbing on for dear life) he'd be no better than Petey Faggins.....seriously, if he doesn't grab on for dear life on all those PIs, the guy would be no better than Petey in coverage and is burnt just as badly. Frankly I'm surprised more teams haven't challenged him deep.

This is Dunta's last year as a Houston Texan and the the Texans will be better off next year without him....that is not something you'd ever say about a player who could be the best corner on about half of the other NFL teams, so no....Dunta is not the 18th best corner in the NFL. LOL.

Put me down for all of the above. Dude is a liabilty. holding out set him back. Offer a fair contract, let him go, get a compensatory pick like joker said.

He picked a pretty bad year to suck. He should consider himself lucky to be making this much money this year. He won't make this more again. Unless Snyder or Al Davis sign him.

Robinson is a liability. The best move the Texans can make for our future is to develop players that are under contract through next year and see what they can do on the field. We know what Robinson gives us at 10m on the field, and it does not help this team in the short or long terms.
