Thanks for your support!

It's started Austin

that kinda makes sense though.......i'd expect them to show vy when all 4 teams are out of state

This is a stay of execution.

It'll be official when a Texans game gets bumped in order to show a Titans game.

You would think Houston would show the Titans game also because there should be more interest for Texans fans being that they are a division rival.

As a Texans fan I would rather watch any AFC South team over the Vikings vs Bears.

In Austin, they almost always show a NFC East team when the Cowboys aren't playing because it's a game of interest to Cowboys fans.

I'd rather watch Favre over Young. And I think Vince Young is a perfectly exciting player. That's just me.

I always have a strong rooting interest when the Titans are on. I could care less about the Vikings or Bears since they have no effect on anyone I root for.

And I get that. I understand exactly. I watch football because it excites me. Watching Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson is just a more exciting game to tune to for me. I like watching football, not cheap shots all game long. I know, y'all hate Jared Allen but I think Fisher-ball is more about getting the job no matter what it takes.

I see the Titans as of being the same as watching the Jaguars. Not really all that exciting to watch.

Today's game might be the last one shown in Austin for a while.

Next week:

Texans @ Jaguars, NOON CBS
Titans @ Colts, NOON CBS

Week 14:

Seahawks @ Texans, NOON FOX
Rams @ Titans, NOON FOX

Week 15:

Texans @ Rams, NOON CBS
Dolphins @ Titans, NOON CBS

That's three direct conflicts in a row. The fact that Fox changed the game this week from the national "game of the week" to the Titans game is definitely cause for concern, because it shows that the local affiliate has the power to change the game based on fan input or input from programmers at the actual station... that was also of course proven by our successful changing of the game of the week to the Texans/49ers game a while back.

Yep, we're going to be having some get-togethers in Austin in the next few weeks. Probably for ALL THREE weeks.

Wow. A 99 yard drive with 3 4th down conversions including the GWTD.

Yep, Austin is a Vince town again. It was fun while it lasted.

He'll probably knock off the Colts next weekend. No question that the CBS down in Austin will be showing Colts and Titans over the Texans and Jags. Hell, I would, too.

CBS national office makes the call for the game and I highly doubt that they'll opt to show the Titans. KEYE has no say in it since they're no longer a CBS owned station and so far, they've shown no inclination to show the Titans.

KEYE and CBS's loss.

You're wrong. Listen, we've been on top of this for three or four years now. The new programming guy at KEYE (the previous guy is no longer with the station) told me all about how the sale of the station has changed their ability to change the games based on what the locals want. It's simply not true. There were several games changed between Titans and Texans before AND after the ownership change was made.

KEYE made a commitment to show the Texans this year, but the guy who made that commitment - again - is no longer with the station.

The exact same thing happened with FOX earlier this year. We complained that SF/HOU wasn't on, and the answer was "we have no control over that." It's simply not true. If enough noise is made, they make the change. It really is that simple.

The station was sold on Feb 7, 2007, per wikipedia.

Vince didnt play at all in 2008 (Except part of the first game, but the Texans were shown in Austin for that http://the506.com/nflmaps/2008-01-CBS.html ).

So for all of 2008, and up to now, I dont think the Texans were preempted in favor of the Titans. I've traded emails with Gary Vinson (old guy) who was really helpful and responsive towards our noble cause. I think he's the one that made the call to show the Titans in 06 and 07.

The new guy (Dusty Granberry) sucks. All he does is respond to every email with the canned "out of my control" response. Here is the latest one that we got last week - "CBS network makes the decisions on what NFL games we will air. KEYE does not get to choose the games. Sorry I could not help you."

Unless the CBS HQ decides to put a blob in Austin, which I highly doubt, I think you guys will continue to get to see the Texans.

Those guys at KEYE determine what goes on no matter what they say. It seems they just make up stuff in response to all the emails they get. If they are showing something you don't want to see it's "out of their control". If they are showing something that you do want it's because they "are committed to their viewers" etc.

The Titans will preempt the Texans at some point this season. It will probably happen this Sunday. If not, it's going to happen the week after that. You can mark it down that it will happen this season.

So if it was sold in Feb 2007, that would include all the games from 2007. The Texans were repeatedly preempted in 2007. Vinson was a good guy. I've had the exact same experience as you have with Dusty Granberry.

Here's the tidbit about KEYE from wikipedia.

On February 7, 2007, CBS agreed to sell seven of its stations to Cerberus Capital Management, L.P., for $185 million. Cerberus formed a new holding company for the stations, Four Points Media Group, who took over the operation of the stations through local marketing agreements in late-June 2007.[1] On January 10, 2008, Four Points officially became the owner of the stations. Four Points operated the stations outright until March 20, 2009 when it entered into a three-year local service agreement (LSA) with the Irving, Texas-based Nexstar Broadcasting Group. The latter company then took over the management of all of the Four Points stations including KEYE. In August 2009, CBS42 was dropped in favor of KEYE-TV News, and the station website address was changed to weareaustin.com.

You're right about the 2007 season. I dont know why Dusty is pulling the "out of my control" card all of a sudden then.

I already explained it in my last post however here is a visual.

For the record, the FOX guy said the exact same thing. "It's out of our control" then poof - they changed the game.

I dunno, we'll see. Maybe we get this game because it's a divisional game, but after that - two games against bad NFC teams... with of course only the SEA @ HOU game actually on CBS.

We'll see. I hope it holds, but it's only Monday.

There's no doubt in my mind that they'll make the switch late in the week to the Indy/Tennessee game. Peyton vs. VY is a bulit-in excuse to ditch the Texans.

Hello, Third Base.

Hello, Third Base.

Damnit! (Pulls hair out!)

Yup. See it coming too. Guess I'll only get to see every other game. Don't think I'll be taking my 4 year old to a sports bar. Especially to watch another .500 at best year. Hopefully I'll have the money to come up and see yall wherever the gang's all at on my off weekends.

Better start readin the Austin fans thread as I thought there was some hub-bub about going to 3rd base.

As for VY guy on this board....looks like you won dude. Feel free to go back to shaggybevo.com or whatever other MB you are from.

This sux.

I have never seen a town(in Texas) not follow either the Texans or Cowboys.I lived in all three cities and it kind of freaks me out.I hate the cowboys as mush as the next Houstonian but they do not even show those jerkys anymore or root for them . This is flat out embarassing.

It's pretty safe to say that Austin is a Cowboy town.

Still says Texans @ Jags tomorrow as of now.:smiliedance:

Hopefully that remains the case. If they pull the game, I guess I'll miss it unless someone has a slingbox or something they can let me in on. I have my daughter this weekend, so no sports bar for me. If they switch next week. I'm in for wherever everyone is meeting at this year.

Is it still 3rd base?

I wasn't a big fan of 3rd Base, personally.

Hardcore and Hook - where is your place of choice again? Was it Pluckers in RR?

Yeah, that's where they go. I'll be there too if they don't show the game. It's the 2nd best place to catch a football game in Round Rock, #1 is my couch.

Last year, we had all been going to the one on 6th and Mopac. I guess everyone is down on that this year. I haven't yet read the Austin tailgate thread yet as I have not had the need or opportunity to go yet, so don't know where it's at this year.

I will say that as I live in Dripping Springs in SW Austin, I know I''m not driving to Round Rock to watch a game. Hopefully alot of people are meeting somewhere near downtown or down south Austin.

You know it! If they do stop showing our games at least I get to hang out with a great group of Texans fans.

Kewl...I'll be there today again at the oustide bar with my Bronco buddy...both are the early games. Stop by and whoever finds me first gets to buy my a big beer!
