Yes I know the waters are frigid and filled with pissed off sharks today. I know I would feel the same if I were you.

My honest opinion is that the one element missing from your team is "fire in the belly." Yes there was emotion on the field, and yes, there is an intense rivalry on the rise, but I didn't see that extra 'gear' of fire from a team fighting for its playoff lives. I saw it from Pollard and Cushing, but no one on offense or on the sidelint seemed to have that 'anger urgency' knowing how big a game this was for the franchise.

I think the Texans needs an edgier coach - no offense to Kubiak but a less cerebral, more emotional and angry coaching staff is needed. The talent is in place at many key positions IMO for your team, it just needs something to put it all together, and at this stage, its time to upgrade from Kubiak and his staff.

Who to bring in? Hell if I know. Pick your emotional coach not currently in the league, but Schottenheimer, Cowher, hell even Holmgren would not have allowed the Texans to play a bit flat like I thought they did last night.

i;d rather have calm cool and clear and cerebral

then guy just angry and yelling that will get u know were

Kubes stays hes the least of our problems

Hate to say it... but next year is the tell all for this staff. Kubiak aint going anywhere with McNair running the show. We have a few more holes to fill, and we have the youngest starting lineup in the NFL.

Beat Indy next week and things change dramatically around here. Small task right?

The Giants lost Shockey then won a Super Bowl. It's not a TE that puts you over the top.
I did not say that did I?
When you have a Manning at the helm, you could win a ring with a monkey as your TE and WR.

SB? Over the top?, what does that even mean?--postseason?, SB? Realistically, the Texans are trying to make the postseason and its quite obvious that losing one of the most productive TE in the league and having a bust for a kicker has severely hindered the chances of making the postseason.

I'm tired of all this opposing fan love-fest crap here. Go away already.

Look you obviously follow the team more than I do - but don't put Eli Manning on the same pedastal as his brother! They won because their D did the impossible and shut down the best O of the decade.

And to go from a perennial 8-8 team to a serious contender is not a stretch, not when you have 4 or 5 All Pros on the team. The loss of Daniels absolutely hurts, but its been Andre Johnson that has been the player torching the titans. Ask Kubiak why he would call a screen to Slaton when Johnson should damn well be the primary target.

And yes, obviously a kicker that can consistently make clutch FGs would be nice, but it would be nicer if he wasn't kicking 45YD+ FGs in those situations. Those aren't chipshots.

I was genuinely confused by the Texans last nite.

Me too.

Actually, I knew we would come out flat. BYE week does that to us. When we've got ample time to gameplan... it gets a kink then the rest of the game is over. It's the Kubiak way. Kubiak was trying to outsmart Fisher rather than play our strengths.

Andre Johnson should demand a trade. I know he dropped three but four receptions for our All Pro? Absolutely demand it!

Coaching, and ultimately execution in crunch time, was the difference in this one. Texans, for the umpteenth time, played NOT TO LOSE! I don't think losing ever crossed the mind of Jeff Fisher or his squad. All VY did was manage the game. Nothing spectacular - highly professional. Kubes is a great guy and undoubtedly a solid football man. :kingkong:

Don't know if he has head coach make-up.He has put far too much faith in an offensive coordinator who only has a last name as his coaching credential. Key series - after Tennessee misses a FG in the 4th, Texans go 3 and out. Game over. Matt Schaub has great numbers, just don't know if he is the guy. Defense needs to get the other guys off of the field. Not enough stops when they needed them.

You guys almost beat them last time...and held them to 20 points. You guys have the team to do it. Plus I'll be rooting for you guys. I hope Mario puts that big ass head of Poutin's in the ground.
Honestly, it's always fun to see Manning get decked, regardless of who does it! LOL

manning wants no part of mario

last game mario didnt even touch him but his mere pressure casused Manning to go into ball form

Please make Manning do that again this Sunday.
You Texans and us Titans may not be the best of friends, but I guarantee we share an equal hatred for the Baby Horsies.

I actually wonder why Tennesseans do not have this fawning love for Manning like Houstonians do for Young?

I was actually very suprised you did not feed AJ more. Harper could not cover him. He had one good pass deflection but most of the time we was way out of position or steps behind him. After the TD I figured every time Harper lined up with him it was going his way.

Weve tried mean, cusssing coaches. Players just tune them out.

The demeanor of the coach is meaningless, we just need a winner

We've only had two HC's and both have been bubble gum - milkshake types.

I wasn't talking about our HC. We've had some DL coaches that were mean and cussed, and it went in one ear and out the other. Our players didn't respond at all.

A fired up coach doesn't do much if your team isn't prepared. I'd rather have bubblegum and football smarts than a cussing guy who falls back on attitude rather than talent

Hence a coach that offers both. It's time to open the wallet and get a winner for you guys. I'm not sure Cowher is available, but I'd sure as hell throw him a blank check and see if he bites. He's worth it.

Intensity breeds intensity. Doesn't mean it's a guy cussin'.

A pro bowl TE certainly helps when you lack a running game, strong pass rush, and secondary which were things the Giants had when they won a Super Bowl but aren't things we have the luxury of having.

Mike Singletary is pretty intense, and look how well his team is playing.

Theres more to coaching than intensity.

Which coaches coaching right now can you name who are "intense" or "fire breathing"

It doesn't always work, gtexan. I think Mike Singletary is an idjit and has no business head coaching in the NFL. His legacy was on the field... it'll never be on the sidelines.

Look at SB winners. There aren't too many of the easy going Tom Landry types on that list. I don't really consider Bill Belichick too much of the cussing type yet he's got some serious intensity going on out there in New England.

Singletary is going an exellent job....his first full year and no QB. THeir D is legit. Bad comparison.

He fell into a job that has was beginning to be an intense defense but the way he demoralizes his players in public... that doesn't sit too well with me. I'd hate to have him as a boss.

He has probably the best MLB in the NFL and he himself was the best MLB at one time. It's a good combination there and should reap rewards.

Singletar's attitude and style is what is making the 9ers be a respectable franchise again. His hard nosed coaching turned around V Davis's career which Davis admits. All of his players have huge respect for the guy. Right now they have no QB and no O line. On top of that Gore was out a few games and without him they have no run game.

The 9ers have had a pretty rough schedule this season. At Colts, Viking, and Packers. Played in AZ and also played the Falcons.

I'll concede then. I don't watch enough 49er games. I'm sure Vinny and you both know more than I do. I just didn't like his demoralizing tactics. Pulling his pants down? Who does that?

i don't follow. when we traded rosenfelds, he told the papers he asked kubiak not to yell at him so much when he made mistakes. kubiak doesn't call out his players in the press but i'm pretty sure he's not the push-over type.

all I can say is poor widdle wosenfels. The only player in the league that can't handle a coach as mean as Gary bulldog Kubiak.

Hell, they were on the field the whole game! Matt Schaub was off all night, the play calling was terrible. When Matt was asked if the team felt like that they blew it last night and he said no, they just didn't get the win, or some soft (Kubiak like answer) that the team shows.

Schaub had 305 yards passing last night. I'd hardly call that 'off'.
But it's weird, Schaub was getting pressure consistently yet managed to chuck out 300 yards...almost in the opposite manner that your defense was seemingly stopping CJ left and right, yet he still managed to get 150 yards.
It was an ugly game...from both teams. I'm glad we won, but I still feel dirty because it was 60 minutes of ugly. Our special teams coverage and our tackling get the Ugly First Prize for last night.

Now, you guys go get ready to kick the **** out of the Colts this Sunday. We are all rooting for you.

Singletary fell into this spot. Mike Nolan developed their D, Gore was already there and their O-Line play was good for run blocking. Their QB play is due to not have consistency in their QB and O-Cord coaching. Singletary is doing an ok job but the 49ers won't be respectable until they start winning. You can give him credit for motivating Vernon Davis, but they have turned nothing around. Back to us, I think we have 2 problems that stand out:

1. Kubiak is not a veteran HC, so he is still in his learning curve as far as TEAM/GAME management. It's not making an excuse for him but hopefully he learns this fast with us or later with another team.

2. We are the youngest team in the NFL, plus we don't know what its like to be a winner. Of course talent plays a key role (which we have), but its also a mindset. Eugene Wilson is a vet with winning experience but I don't know if he is bringing anything to the table as far as leadership.

Lastly Cowher won't cure this team's woes. He would need to totally revamp the team on both sides which could lead to growing pains. Do we really want to possibly wait 2+ years on a new product. Maybe bring in consultant who DOESN'T control what Kubiak does but offers advice from the booth. The HC can not see everything on the field but his coaching staff in the booth has responsibilities to cover certain aspects and they are failing him. (but he did choose who he wanted).
