Kris Brown speaks

http://www.houstontexans.com/tv/index.asp?mm_file_id=3713&play_clip=y

You can tell he was probably crying his ass off before the interview. He takes all the blame for it. After the video, I'm still pissed at the dude, but not as much as before. He's taking it hard...as he should.

All kickers go through inexplicable inaccuracy before they have to retire. They don't feel like they've lost it, but they have. It creeps up on them, and it must really suck to have to go through.

Vanderjagt feels his pain and I like how he owned it and didnt try to say it was a team loss. Texans could have still lost in OT, but I would have liked them to have a chance.

Cool hes sorry

1 more strike Kris and biz nas is biz nas

1 more Mess up and your gone IMO and i will be sorry to see that but u gotta do what u gotta do

Kicking a 45-50 yard field goal is a gamble. Its not automatic. That is why I wanted us to take a shot down the field on our 2nd to last play and try to get him a closer shot, or maybe even have scored.

I think Kris needs to step up his game but we cant keep putting our eggs into the Kris Brown basket.

Any kicker you get in FA or the draft is going to be possibly as good, or most likely worse. Kris is the best we have for the forseable future, and we need to stop betting our entire game on a 50 yard kick.

Hmm..I can't hate the guy.

I can be angry at him though.

Same here. I am very angry that he has missed these last two. But I also feel bad for him. Then that wears off then I feel angry at him. I am afraid Kris Brown has contracted the yips that have infected Slaton.

It's not any one person's fault we are fricking 5-5 right now. It's everyone, from Kubiac down to the water boy and all the players. Blaming this situation on any one person is silly.

Doesn't mean I'm not pissed at Kris Brown ('cause I am), but I sure as hell don't blame him for the loss.

Somebody brought up Ian Howfield a couple of weeks ago after KB blew the Indy game. I thought that was silly back then.

It doesn't sound so crazy now.

Yeah he's Ian HowField reincarnated....

It wasn't the fact that he missed it, he missed it badly.. he shanked it so bad I thought someone had blocked it at first.. It wasn't even CLOSE.. total flop mentally by Kris, the same reason Pittsburgh got rid of him, choking on the big game kicks.

He always made the big kicks for us when we were going 4-12 and 6-10. Now we need him more than ever and he goes back to his Pittsburgh self.

It's always SOMETHING with this team.

Yeah, he never makes "big game kicks".

Dude, come on. The dude's won several last second games for us.

It's easier and less mind taxing to put it on the kicker than to be honest and realize that the defense sucks, the offense can't run the ball and Dunta should be arrested for stealing money.

In the last 8 years when have we ever had two bigger games than the last two? He shanked it so badly so now it's all mental, it always has been as a kicker.

Really? Okay, please name the games that were as big as our last two. Name the games that had some playoff indications on the line as well.

I don't think you'll come up with any.

Ya, when they were playing for nothing but maybe a little respectability. Last night, they were playing basically for a playoff spot and for the second game in a row he choked. And make no mistake, that was a choke job.

Kris Brown's interview made me feel for the guy because I can't imagine how bad it must be to be him today, having to face his teammates and the heartsick fans of the Houston Texans. He alone is not responsible for the team being 5-5 instead of *maybe* 7-3 (assuming the Texans pull games out in OT), but his poor play is obviously not helping the team win games.

Kubiak has held players like Barber, Busing, Bennett, Slaton, and Moats accountable this year for mistakes they should not have made that contributed to another ding in the loss column.

Is an accountability moment imminent for Kris Brown? How many times can the team lose out on chances to win games with a kicker who fails at the one thing he is asked to do?

I am a Kris Brown fan because he's been here since the beginning, but I have to wonder how much longer they will stick with him.

Look, I already mention KB deserves some blame. I just don't think he deserves the bulk of it when the game should've never come down to a last second FG. Failure to get 8 yards to get in the endzone, Dunta's shoddy performance, defense's failure to get off the field, crappy running game, dropped balls. etc., etc.

Still, what good is Kris Brown if he can't get it done if/when it goes down to situations like that?

Even with all those mistakes we were still in the position to win/tie the game even with all those mistakes.

The KB issue is typically that most kickers when they start missing like this are done, cause it's their head that is messed up, not their foot. We have no time for him to go to therapy. As KB said in his interview there were two things, it's easy to tell when he's not doing his job, and he has to figure it out and quickly, and by quickly right now.

Competition for kicker is tough in this league, I bet there are 10 agents calling contacts at the texans trying to get their guy in to take some shots.

Too tired to bother, buddy. Let's just agree to disagree. :)

ROFL, I'm really dragging at work today but come on you have to admit the last two games have been pretty big for the Texans. I have no voice left last night after the game, chanting VY sucks for most of the second half during every commercial break when he was down on our side was great. We had it going pretty good..

NFL = "Not for Long" The past is the past. In our CURRENT season we know he:

a. MISSED a kick that would have brought the Texans to overtime in Indy

b. MISSED a two feild goals against the Titans that had he made them would have won the game.

I'll be the first to admit I'm NOT a place kicker and can't do what Brown does, but at the same time it's looking as if he's lost that edge he once had had. Fact remains, you're the kicker. At the end of the game you don't have any bumps and bruises and your uniform is generally the cleanest. Your job is to put it through the uprights, if you can't do that, then you don't belong in the NFL.
Kris Brown attempted 3 FGs yesterday. He made ONE.

.33 = 1/3 = 33%

Question:

a. If you're in school and get a 33 on a test...do you pass?

b. If you're evaluated at work and get a 33% efficiency rate...do you keep your job?

He's a great guy and I love him, but he's not performing up to standards. This isn't a popularity contest it's about winning football games.

And I'm getting tired of people saying, "It shouldn't have come down to that." Sure, in a perfect world your offense would always be on point, and you would roll everyone by 10+.

But this is the NFL. Games like this happen all the time. Sometimes you do have to put the game in your kicker's hands (foot?). How many playoff games and Super Bowls did the Pats win by trotting out Vinatierei at the end? You really don't want it to come to that, but when it does you need a guy you can count on.

Exactly. Kris Brown would be the first one to agree.

Let's not forget not only has he missed these kicks but he has had a couple blocked in the last few months as well. He is not right at the moment and I am not sure if he can fix it either.

Exactly, as it's been under Kubiak, "Team Good Kids" aren't coached to close games out...
It should have never came to Kris' 50 yarder to tie....

Schaub is Kubiaks guy, we have the #1 receiver in the game, when do you hand your guy the keys to go win a game at home on the biggest stage for our franchise?
