MNF Roof Status

ChrisG

Road Fan
I figured I would ask as I didn't c the information anywhere else. What is the roof status for MNF if the forecast holds (76 and sunny during the day). IK it will be colder at night but I dont think it will be cold enough to get outside the 50-80 rule.

Ik its early but any word yet? If not, i guess i'll have to wait until game day. Would love to c it open for the night game.

Per Nat weather service:

Monday: Partly sunny, with a high near 72.

Monday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

If that 30% holds, expect the roof to be closed even if the closest rain is in New Mexico. :foottap:

Houston Texans Roof Policy:

Beginning with the 2006 season, we will open the roof when the game time temperature is projected to be between 50 and 80 degrees. Our goal for implementing the “50-80 Rule” is to provide the most comfortable environment possible to enjoy Houston Texans games. Please note that the threat of rain will influence this decision, and when there is a good chance of rain during a game, the roof will be closed. Also, our parameters for late afternoon and evening games may shift slightly because of the absence of direct sunlight. However, we plan to use the general parameters established with your input to make the roof position decision for each game.

Our research clearly demonstrated that we cannot please everyone, every time with our roof position decision. However, we are hopeful that this note helps to point out that our approach is thoughtful, deliberate and focused on creating the best environment possible for the majority of our fans to enjoy games at Reliant Stadium.

They will probably send out more details in the pre-game e-mail.

Off topic, but when we were leaving the Monday after the Niner game Houston was in the beginnings of a long rainy day and I noticed they had the roof closed. The day after a game I would have thought they would let Mom Nature to the watering.

They remove the turf after games, anyway. That grass may have been
getting its water OUTSIDE of Reliant Stadium.

I'm gonna be out there early in the morning, banging on the door like the mervyns super sale lady. "open... Open... Open..."

I love a football game in November, especially when it's outdoors!

Open it. Do it. There's no reason not to

Do it!! Do it!!

I wish the roof would be open.....Last year the Texans won because the roof was open and Jeff Fisher was worried about kicking a field goal in the wind, so instead went for an unsuccessful 4th down play.

Roof Closed=Peoples beers going to be whitecapping.

Its going to be loud :turtle:

Whos brining the air siren to get everyone to their seats on time?

Yup, Nat weather service is backing off the chances for rain some. Now down to 20% -

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 75.

Monday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 52.

they also have a little discussion you can click on which says -
GFS INDICATE FRONT MOVING ACROSS OUR REGION LATE MONDAY NIGHT AND EARLY TUESDAY. UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT APPEARS TO BE WEAK AND MOISTURE SOMEWHAT LACKING. WE SHALL CONTINUE WITH LOW POPS DURING THIS EVENT.

I have never read that they remove the grass after every game. I've read that they replace individual squares throughout the season, but I would like to see more about them removing the entire field after every game. Do you have any source to elaborate?

IIRC you are essentially correct with the exception that they will remove the entire field if the Texans are away for a stretch (2 or more games) or an away game then a bye week, etc..

You guys crack me up!! "outdoor stadium?" "skyline?" Apparently you have never been to Reliant Stadium! It is NOT an outdoor stadium and the only way you see the "skyline" is if you are on the roof or in an aircraft of some type. Just freaking funny to me!! You won't even be able to see the damn stars for all the pollution!!! OH WAIT! Here comes the Goodyear blimp!! Opps! I blinked and I missed it! lol Get real guys!! It's a hole in the roof, nothing more.

I've gotta call BS on that one. Worried about the wind??? I don't think so. I don't care if that came straight from Fisher's piehole. In the 76 games I've seen there I don't think I've ever seen the flags on top of the uprights move.

I don't think so either, but I do remember Fisher saying that. Either way it was a Texans win. Roof is open tomorrow night. Gotta love it. Even if it isn't a true outdoor stadium.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the aerial shots of the stadium that will be shown on T.V. They look much better at night with the roof open.

I think what the poster referred to was that on tv they will show air views of the open roof, spliced in with some downtown shots and video from around town.

Funny. I got into a rather heated discussion with a Tinnred fan who thought the wind was blowing too strong for a FG. BS!! The flags were moving a little bit that night... BUT not nearly enough to use as a reason not to kick it, especially when your kicker is Rob Bironas.

Next complaint wahhhhhhhhhh it will be to cold.............leave the thing open.........weather permitting.....

I loved last year when they didn't have a choice and we had open games that were cold, rainy, whatever. I understand SheTexan's comments on the hot end. I'd like to push it a few degrees to say 85 instead of 80 and then make it no lower limit and no % chance limit. If it is under 85 degrees the roof is open. If it is truly time to build a boat, go ahead and close the roof. Don't close it on a chance it might drizzle.

All I know is that it will be a beautiful night for football! Could care less if they open or close it for night games, it makes no difference to me. BUT, I agree, the aeriall shots will be nice for the TV audience. Just wanna see a TEXAN win. I'm worried we will get out coached this game.

Because of what you have said the last few years I agree with an upper limit. Truth is we weren't uncomfortable during the Pittsburgh game (other than that we brought Steelers fans with us) but clearly down at your end it was a serious problem. So I agree to an upper temperature limit.

Agreed, except I wouldn't make anything so absoloute. As if 80 is perfectly comforabtle, but 81 musst make everyone miserable. It kind of reminds me of zero tolerance school policies where all decision making is lifted from the admin's and there is no common sense applied. Nope, your kid is suspended because she had a bottle of midol or something assanine. Why use such a blanket policy? How about some common sense? I've seen days where it's 80 and humid as hell and generally miserable where I wouldn't want to be in the sun for several housrs. I've also seen plenty of days where it's 83 or something with low humidty and nice blue sunny skies where it might be a bit warm but really pretty pleasant.

And I agree on the downside. Are we really that wimpy that if it's 45 we are going to stay home? What kind of fans are we? A bunch of wimps? Look at Green Bay, Buffalo, NE, NY, Philly, Pittsburgh, Cinci, Cleveland. My goodness. If it's 45 threre, it's like a freaking sauna. Get real people. Eat some damn wheaties, throw on a coat and "brave" the elements.

Heard on the radio it was to be opened, with a low of 55. Bring your jackets folks!

Honestly, unless it's early in the year with that nice cloud of balls heating up the land or raining I don't understand why they wouldn't just keep it open. If it's below 80 and clear I say buck up and layer up. Cold can be dealt with.
