2006 college football predictions

i know this is far in advance but with the thread about UT's season i'd like to open a thread for any school...personally i see this year coming to who is gonna face USC in the championship game...i see it as being either Iowa or Va. Tech...i do not see a SEC or Big XII school competiting for the national championship this year however that doesn't mean one won't...college football always has a surprise or two during the season...anyways...what is ya'lls pick

Got me thinking of the upcoming College Football season for the first time :excited: but have no clear cut thoughts based upon any reasoning except that nothing would surprise me. In fact it would not surprise me if the BCS title game was a repeat of last years thrilling Rose Bowl. Texas has enough talent if Vince Young continues to excell and Michigan deserves another shot at em plus they too are loaded.

Of course the logical picks would be USC & one of the Florida schools or Oklahoma, but that would equal another BORING GAME/BLOWOUT. who wants that

I think D.J. Shockley is going to make me break at least one TV this year. The over-under on my dad is three TV's. Tubberville said it best "I root for Richt to put Shockley in, it's a guaranteed turnover." :brickwall Where have you gone David Greene?

If I'm coaching Georgia this year, I'm handing it off to Danny Ware or Thomas Brown every play. No Exceptions. :highfive:

As far as our defense goes, they will be good as always. We just kicked our starting linebacker off the team, but they grow on trees at Georgia. Quentin Moses will be a stud this year at DE. Golston and Anderson will plug up the middle. Greg Blue will be a poor man's Thomas Davis at safety.

Overall I expect a rough season for Georgia. Shockley just is not a good QB. I'm thinking a three loss season would be good Georgia this year. :crying: Tennessee is my pick to win the SEC. Of course I wouldn't mind being proven wrong. :)

I think it's a very good possibility that LSU ends up facing USC in the national championship game...Before you just brush me off, let's take a look at their schedule:

North Texas
Arizona State
Tennessee
@ Miss. State
@ Vandy
Florida
Auburn
Appalachian State
@ Bama
@ Ole Miss
Arkansas

This is one of the easier schedules that I have seen...The only games that should give them any degree of trouble are Arizona State (Hagan may be the best WR in college football), Tennessee, Florida (Meyer's system suits Leak's talents well), and Auburn, though I think losing the Cadillac, H2, Rogers, and Campbell hurts them immensely...

They have 3 good RBs, 4 good WRs, and good depth on defense overall, plus they don't have that many holes to fill since they didn't lose too many players due to graduation and the draft...If anything holds them back this year, it will be their new coach, Les Miles...

not the easiest i'm sure but 10-2 / 11-1 puts them in the hunt. oh yeah losing that head coach, whats his name Nick Sabin does'nt exactly lay groundwork for continued continuity. plus with the rest of that schedule it will hurt them points wize in the BCS system.

Hey man don't discount North Texas. I am a proud alum and we have been to a bowl game 3 years straight and have the nations longest winning streak.... Ok so i know we don't have a chance in hell to win the game. This is our yearly game in which we play a national powerhouse to bring some money into the school. However, i dont think LSU will have the offensive power to run the table in the SEC. They lost a few players on defense too so i don't know if it will be as good as it was last year and keep them in some games.

Here's a quick little college football trivia question. There is only one university in division 1 that inlcudes the color "yellow" in their official school colors. Other schools refer to the color yellow on their uniforms as gold. What school has yellow and truthfully calls it yellow?

Well damn I just went to their website. They succumbed to pressure and changed their uniforms are few years ago to gold. :embarrass

Rephrase the question. What team used to admit to the color yellow before cowardly changing to gold?

we have a chance but it will come down to our qb play. losing saban won't hurt our offense to much because jimbo was the guy who called the plays and ran the show, nick was more involved with the defense. if we can find a solid qb and stick with him, we could have a shot. the problem is we aren't exactly sure if that guy is jamarcus, matt or even rp. we have all the talent in the world around him, four rbs that could start at a lot of other schools, the most talented unproven wr corps in the country, and a o-line that returns everyone that started the last four games of the season. our defense should be just as good even though we lost spears and webster. our d-line will be better and deeper, we have some speed at lb, and the best safety duo in the sec. if we can find atleast two cbs our defense should once again be one of the tops in the nation. we catch a break in our schedule since pretty much all of our tough games are at home and tennessee comes to death valley a week after a game at the swamp. the west is also down this year, alabama is the only team i see giving us any type of a problem. i probably have some gold and purple shades on but think we have a chance. it all comes down to the qb, it will be the difference between a 2003 season and a 2004 season.

Actually, the team I was thinking of was the Wyoming Cowboys. There old unis used to be brown and yellow and it was noted that they were the only D1A college team to admit to the color yellow. There are lots of teams with the color yellow in their uniforms but Wyoming was the only one that officially called it yellow.

Disappointingly they have changed it to "Prarie Gold"

Wyoming: brown, Wyoming prairie gold
From Wyoming's athletics site: The story behind the colors of the University of Wyoming dates back to 1895. In the Spring of that year, the first ever UW Alumni Banquet was held. Decorations for the banquet included Brown-Eyed Susans, a flower native of Southeastern Wyoming. The Alumni were so impressed with the colors (brown and yellow) and the beauty of the flowers that they decided to select these colors as the official school colors at UW. In recent years the colors have been modified to brown and Wyoming prairie gold.

Actually there are two:

FAU and Oregon

With the hideous uniforms the Ducks have, they have no choice but to admit to yellow.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. Back to your regularly scheduled discussions.

FAU Owls official colors are Red, Blue and ....Yellow. The Ducks are Yellow & Green. Not Neon Yellow and Green as might be expected. Gwallia, I thought you would get Oregon...seeing that you will be seeing them play our UH on Sept 1, 2005 in Reliant Stadium!!

FAU was the trickier one...I can thank EA SPORTS' NCAA 2005 for that one!

No one would have thunk it but i think Kansas Jayhawks are going to have quite a good team. Remember last season when they only lost by 3 to the mighty texas longhorns..? Watch out big 12 here comes Kansas!

The Big12 will have at least one team contend. That one team will be either Texas or Oklahomo. Whichever team wins the RRS, they'll have the inside track. In fact, they may have it easier than teams from the other conferences. It's really a two horse race in the Big 12.

In the Big 10 plus one, Michigan will have to beat Ohio State and Iowa. Iowa will have to beat Michigan and Ohio State. Ohio State will have to beat Michigan and Iowa (and Texas).

In the SEC, you've got Florida, Tennessee, and LSU (I think Georgia and Auburn lost too much).

The ACC has Miami, Florida State and Va. Tech.

Texas has a tough road game in Columbus but having it early is an advantage. If they lose, there's still plenty of time to make up ground (especially if they beat ou).

So I'll say:

USC vs Texas

"We"? "TexansCanes"?

Your QB problem is simple. Put Perriloux in and let him play every position on offense. He's obviously the best player y'all got. Just ask him and he'll tell you the same. Heck, he could be a Heisman contender this year.

"We"? "TexansCanes"?

i knew this would come up, especially with football season coming up. i grew up as a miami fan and was one when i first started on the texans board, so when he moved to the new board i decided to try and keep the same name so people might remember who i am. i have since become a student at lsu. i was going to change my username but that would mean that i would lose all of my stuff so i figured i would just have to put up with the harrasing i will probably receive. (mainly mikemc, i believe he is the one against people who have to favorite teams, but i will say that i only root for lsu, but still follow miami but could care less if they win of lose). i don't really have a good reason for liking miami except for the fact that i liked their mascot when i was like six, i guess it didn't hurt that they were pretty good at the time as, but i didn't care. i didn't really start being a big fan of the canes until around 1997 when i really started to get into college football, and it makes it really enjoyable if you have a team to follow. i say this so people won't think i jumped on the bandwagon in 2000, even though you probably will. i would like to change my name if i could (i would like to support my school), but it doesn't bother me that much.

as for rp, i would like to see him come in and play, but if he doens't that just means the jamarcus or flynn have played well enough to keep the job.

p.s.-the miami picture is just for phillip
