defensively yes UT should be fine...DJ was a critical part of their defense but it's easier to replace one player than 5 like OU needs to...the recieving corp for UT will be the deciding factor on how good they are...cause i don't see a runningback from UT dominating again...the o-line should be able to give vince young plenty of time to get the ball out but the question is his mechanics...has he gotten better or stayed the same?
anyways...good luck to the longhorns...i for one not being a UT fan am tired of seeing OU dominate all the texas schools and are ready for all of them to return the favor...my dream season for this year would be for tech, ut, a&m, and baylor to beat the sooners...granted i said DREAM year...let's face it baylor isn't gonna pull that upset
I, too, have a dream. I have a dream that one day... Baylor will topple teams like UT and OU regularly. OK so maybe my dream is a little bit more unrealistic than most, but I think it's well within Baylor's capability to become a force similar to NorthWestern in the Big 10. Maybe not a powerhouse, but capable of beating the bigger state schools every now and then. We've made steady improvement over the past few years, and although we may not topple both UT and OU next season we very well may upset them in one of the next few seasons. Baylor went from beating Colorado to beating Texas A&M. Hopefully we'll see a couple upsets this season, and I definately wouldn't mind one of them being OU.keyfro said:anyways...good luck to the longhorns...i for one not being a UT fan am tired of seeing OU dominate all the texas schools and are ready for all of them to return the favor...my dream season for this year would be for tech, ut, a&m, and baylor to beat the sooners...granted i said DREAM year...let's face it baylor isn't gonna pull that upset
UT should have the best offensive line in the nation next year. And are ranked that way by a couple publications including Phil Steele's. I dont know how a runningback cant be successful behind the big bruisers we got up there.keyfro said:huge...you are abosutely right UT does have one of the best o-lines in college football...i think iowa, ut, usc, lsu, georgia, and miami probably the top 6 o-lines in the nation depending if everyone stays healthy...with michigan, ohio state, virgina, and minnesota ending the top 10

I thought the National Champions had all there line coming back. UT has one of the top lines but if I remember right, USC has the best, or thats just what I think.ComstockLode said:UT should have the best offensive line in the nation next year. When do the polls start up? We need to start high if we want a chance at the Natl championship.ComstockLode said:UT should have the best offensive line in the nation next year. i think that usc probably has the top line, but when these guys do their postiton rankings they don't want to put usc #1 for all of the offensive categories (atleast that is what athlon did this year) so they will instead put them at 2 or 3. anyway i think their are about six teams, as keyro said, that are better than the rest. as for the polls they come out about a month before the season just to get the controversy started, but i will stand by the fact that they are flawed and if the bcs is ever going to work they have to wait and have the polls come out 4 weeks or so after the season has started.Panther5407 said:I thought the National Champions had all there line coming back. Isnt a red river shootout a given? I thought we had to play every team in the Big 12 South?wiley2002 said:I just hope there isn't another Red River Shutout. Different people from Texas A&M have been making jokes about that for a while. I know someone here on the board who'll hate to hear about this.

My mistake.Reddevil63 said:Re-read, Red River Shutout
As much as I'd like to hope, no freakin' way. Either you're overestimating how far OU will drop or you're underestimating how bad A&M was last year.DRIFTAWAY said:then again no-one predicted the upset over A&M last year, and with all the departures, I'd say OU this year is about the same strength of A&M last yr.
It'll be more a matter of scheme that ability. Texas (finally) trashed their zone blocking schemes back in '03 and reverted to smash mouth football in order to take advantage of Cedric Benson's talents.ComstockLode said:UT should have the best offensive line in the nation next year. I fully expect Texas to lose that game. Not by much but they'll lose. How many teams go into Columbus that early in the season against an OSU team that will be ranked in the top 10 and win a prime time game against the Buckeyes? It's just not an easy thing to do.TexansCanes said:i am looking forward to the osu ut game. i think this is the toughest d vince will face all year and i think they have the ability to stop his running so we can see if his passing can beat a good team. i think they have the talent but i don't know if they can make it to the mnc game, we will see.
I thought the National Champions had all there line coming back. UT has one of the top lines but if I remember right said:Yeah, the Trojans 2nd team OL could be better than half the other teams 1's. Michigan will roll out their annual horses as well. But Texas' is up there with them.
Few weeks before the season starts. And they don't neceesarily need to start high for a chance. I think LSU came from a pre-season 13th two years ago to win the BCS half of the MNC.awtysst said:When do the polls start up? We need to start high if we want a chance at the Natl championship.
Texas will be top 5 in just about every poll that matters.
Wasn't A&M on the losing end of a shut-out from the Sooners as well? Only wasn't it more like 77-0?wiley2002 said:I just hope there isn't another Red River Shutout. If you recall correctly "which you don't" A&M did give OU a run and UT. Both Teams were being beat by half time. UT out played us, but A&M shot themselves in the foot "actually Terance Murphy's 2 fumbles in a row". The game went to the final drive of the game and Reggie was hurt and the back up did all he could. This year it all comes down to the day after Thanksgiving. The Big 12 champ will be decided on that day "Big 12 North sucks" OU will have to wait a few more years for that national championship run 'Since you have blown it once again."Wasn't A&M on the losing end of a shut-out from the Sooners as well? i don't know if i would say that. there were two other teams that were undefeated at the time and ou went on to lose to osu a few weeks later, while both the u and osu went unbeaten until the fiesta bowl.I guess OU doesn't remember three years ago 30-26 against a Freshman qb who threw for four touchdowns in another season that they were supposed to be national champions
A&M wasn't on the losing end of a 77-0 shut-out? If they weren't, then I can see how I'm not recalling it correctly. I don't believe I said anything about it being this past season. Does the fact Texas' shut-out came this past season have anymore relevence than A&M's coming 2 seasons ago?Theoridic said:If you recall correctly "which you don't" A&M did give OU a run and UT. Yeah, only you have to go back 5 years worth of old stuff before you can claim anything over Texas.Theoridic said:Bring up old stuff and I can bring some up to.
Rovator said:A&M wasn't that bad last year, they had 5 losses, 3 of them were to the #3, #4, and #5 teams in the nation. Also Tennessee was ranked pretty high and probably would of been another top 10 team if they didn't have to play Auburn twice.
Yeah, and one of the other losses was to Baylor. I repeat: One of the other losses was to Baylor.
They needed OT to beat Tech and Colorado at home. I can excuse most of their losses as they came against superior opponents. But why sugarcoat their victories?
Ramonce Taylor is one of the fastest players on the UT roster. Young was pretty fast but with his leg injury, it'd be an interesting footrace between him and Charles (Texas high school hurdler champ).BroncosRule226 said:Out of the RB's to replace Benson............are all of them speed backs?
