How to fix our slow starts on offense?

This has been a problem for us in every game but the Oakland game. What do y'all think the issue is. I think it is more of a playcalling issue in forcing the run rather than utilize our assets from the beginning. Let's get the ball in Andre's hands in the first drive at least once so we don't have a 3 and out which we always seemingly do in our first drive. We can't continue to sleepwalk through the 1st quarter. What are y'all's thoughts?

Run the ball. We passed like 5 straight downs to open the game and didn't move the ball while the Colts put up 13 in a hurry. We got too giddy about them being down all those guys in the secondary and didn't play to our stength which was running it against them. When we scored in the second half it was when we got our running game going.

I say throw a screen pass to Slaton on the first play of the game. I don't really even care if the other team knows it coming. That, and run the ball. Schaub seems like he takes a series or three to warm up, so taking the ball out of his hands early in the game might help.

If we win the coin toss Defer and Put the Defense on the field first :I

Agreed big time. Our offense always takes awhile to get running might as well play to that strength and give them the ball to start the 2nd half when we seem to move the ball the best.

i'd like to see us use our most consistant plays and focus more on a couple first downs, rather than try to attack against their game tape. run moats behind caldwell a couple times, andre on a quick slant, bootleg right, bubble screen, screen to slaton, etc etc. once we get a first down or two, the offense seems to be warmed up and moving effectively, but getting those first several 5-10 yard plays successfully has been trouble.

The Colts had the ball first last week. Not that it matters, but...

They took a sack on the first offensive play of the game putting them in 2nd and long. If they had instead made positive yardage on 1st down you likely would have seen a running play. They then tried short screens (both completions) to AJ and then Slaton.

I think it's just Matt, Lil' Shanny, and Kubes feeling out the defense early. They script a couple of drives and see how things go. Then they make adjustments based on what they see from the defense if necessary. I'd rather it go that way, than teams be able to figure us out early and stop us late.

This is certainly not a very outlandish suggestion. However, with this recurrent theme of starting slow.......sometimes O, sometimes D, sometimes both.......it makes you wonder about the overall pre-game plan brain trust. It also makes you wonder why most adjustments don't come until half time. Strategy, once the game begins, should be a real-time phenomenon. If it takes up to half of the game to recognize and react to "the problem," you will end up losing half of the games.................Hmm, let me see........8-8......again?
