Favorite Moments of 2004

Favorite moments...not plays or a game, but moments on the field before or after a game, between plays or off the field that will become memorable years from now.

One of mine was when David Carr threw his helmet to the ground in disgust. Sometimes I think keeping your composure is overrated!

Mine was getting to go to Houston and Relient for the first time and watch our boys play the Vikings. Amazing day for me. Another was when D-Rob lit up Peyton manning twice in one game and when Peek scored that TD.
 
This was in 03 if i remember correctly, couldn't find a picture, but it was David Carr/Steve Mckinney's impersonation of Joe Horn's cell phone endzone celebration

That was classic. I've never seen a picture of it so I pulled some screen caps from my tape of the game:

Steve Mcnair, wanting to retire after losing to us twice, winning two in a row for the first time (I guess that whole month of October because we won so many games in that month) The Battle Red unis against Tenn as a suprise for the fans and zeroing out Jville in Jville.
 
My favorite moment of 2004 was Super Bowl weekend in downtown Houston. .. everyone in a party mood and meeting some of the 'greats' out on the town. Loved it all. Hope we get to experience that again soon!
 
Even though this was a play, I'd have to say it was one of my favorite 5 seconds of Texans football.
Jamie Sharpers tribecta against the Jags (If i remember correctly) Sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery and TD!!! god that was great.... followed by:
The first game every, when we went deeeeeep on the opening drive (I believe it was the first play) Carr connecting with Bradford...

That play did put a false impression of how we would run our offense however :dangit:
 
my favourite moment was before the game against the Packers when the ESPN intro to the game was that "new gunslinger (Carr) versus "the old sheriff" Farve man that was awesome it gave me goosebumps.

a trifecta, is only three things, hence tri.... the term i prefer, and Boomer used on ESPN is a grand slam
 
I know it was technically the end of a play and not a fond memory, but Gaffney's premature td celebration/fumble is pretty funny now.

I still love seeing Peek come from the far side of the field to be around the ball on that play. The definition of sideline to sideline pursuit.
 
I was so excited over the game clinching play to even remember the Bull Pen celebration. Awesome picture.
 
Does anybody have the clip of D-rob laying out the Broncos Fullback or the catch against the vikings where AJ got flipped?
 
Surrounded by Viking fans, they were some obnoxious get the hell out of my stadium jerkwads. Once the Texans started coming back, couldn't hear a peep from them. They left the stadium with a new respect for the Texans.
 
So, back to the original question of favorite moment other than a play... I would say (as is every season) the first tailgate of the season. :cool:

Why isnt Wong running towards the ball instead of parralel with it? I always wondered that

It looks like if he ran straight at him he could have stopped him 3 yards earlier. To me it just doesnt look aggressive enough.
 
As far as he knows he is the last line of defense. He has to do what he can to contain him until he knows for sure he has help. Let's assume Simmons wasn't behind him. Would you rather he dove at Brown and missed thus letting him get a longer run? Or would you rather he force him out of bounds and not lose him? The guy already had the 1st Down. Wong is a very smart player. I think he would've gambled and went after Brown differently if he felt he could've made the play w/o much risk.

*Edit* After looking at it again you can tell Wong is headed straight toward Brown, and only goes "parallel" to him for about half a yard before Simmons comes in for the hit.

Yeah on second look he was going straight at him till just a couple yards away and your also right about the guy already having a first down...so thanks for making me feel stupid LOL . It's just I always saw Sharper stop the runner two or three yards after he should have and I dont want to see that rub off on Wong because I really like Wong's game.

It's difficult to see much from that small little clip. You really need a game tape to see the whole field and where all the other players are. I think Wong has the smarts and mentality to make it as an ILB. I just hope his reactions are as quick inside as they were on the outside. There's no doubt we'll be a quicker team with him and Greenwood in the middle. The offseason can't end soon enough for me.

BTW No need to feel stupid. Its just an honest mistake. Happens to me all the time. :brickwall

I also believe Wong has the smarts to play inside I just hope he attacks the point of attack better than Sharper did as for Greenwood I think he will have a very strong year and will shut up alot of people who didnt like his signing. as for the off season ending I also cant wait I'm going to the Bills home opener against the al mighty Texans (hope I dont get my a** kicked when the Texans whip the Bills and I'm celebrating like crazy representing the Texans horde).

Wong is taking Foreman's spot and he will certainly attack the LOS better than Foreman did. 2002-03 Sharper was very good at attacking the LOS. He lost some of that in 2004 but was still nowhere near the Foreman level of tackling downfield.

That's what it looks like to me. I think he just started off with a bad angle of persuit, that play....plus, Brown had momentum going that direction. He wasn't going to catch him, so has to assum no one was there to help and use the sideline as that extra defender, like someone mention.

bad angle of pursuit? I can't see how you guys see so much in a short clip like this. Was he coming off man coverage or was he in a zone? I think you guys are grasping for stuff that you can't tell on this clip. If Wong isn't there Brown doesn't get laid out because he would have a place to run and avoid the lick.
 
Funny how things spin off--I wasn't criticizing Wong, just complimenting Peek for getting all the way across the field to be near the play. It would take a TIVO to see if Wong was doing great or poorly, not that clip.
 
The over-analyzing every tidbit we can get ahold of is the only thing that gets us through the offseason with what little sanity we have left.

:rolleyes: BTW I noticed in the Sea of Red picture that someone was grasping Faggins inappropriately. That should've been a flag for illegal touching, or at least a sexual harrassment case. :bomb: :ouch:

Could be a hazard to a player's health to jump into a crowd of crazy hometown fans like that. Luckily , he didn't lose any body parts.
 
One of the greatest was the energy that filled the building prior to the Sunday night game against the Packers.

But it was bitter sweet, because it was so painful to walk out that night after losing. There were so many Packer fans in our house that you just wanted to beat them soooooo bad to keep them quiet.
