Sanders out for atleast a few weeks

Wow. Peyton will LITERALLY have to beat us with one hand tied behind
his back. Our chances to sweep the Colts have NEVER been better! Texans
to the playoffs, baby!

Convenient for us:shades:

hope he gets well though, i love watching him play when he doesn't play us.

Excellent.

I dont care how we get wins, wins are all that matters. If we get the chance to face a half-strength Colts team so be it.

Now they know how it feels to lose OD

Nobody else in the NFL ever apologized for beating the Texans when they were hurt or short handed so I'm not going to apologize for it if the Texans win Sunday. I'm not counting on anything but nothing has changed. I still sit down to watch them play every week wanting and expecting to see a win. I know it's not reasonable but I want them to win them all.

The law of averages says sooner or later the Texans are going to begin winning some of these games against the Colts. This week is as good as any for that to happen.

True. You got to field your best squad and go to battle, no excuses. That's why quality depth can make or break a season.

The only downside to this is that when we beat the Colts, I can already hear the announcers writing is off due to Indys injuries

I agree they will, but there's NO reason to even care about that, because we're down OD. He was leading or 2nd in TD receptions in the LEAGUE.

If I remember correctly, the last time Schaub faced the Colts was at home
in '07. The Texans were coming into that game, with a record of 2-0, fresh
off a road win at Carolina. It was a game in which the Texans went down
by 3 touchdowns, and came back to blow the Panthers out. Late in garbage
time, Dre got hit and sprained his MCL. So, going into the Colts game,
we were already a man down.

I also remember 2 or 3 more of our major players getting hurt in that game.
Hunter Smith separated rookie Jacoby Jones' shoulder on a 70-some-odd
yard punt return. Also, we lost Steve Mckinney, our best center in that
game. Injuries bite everybody, and they bit us HARD in '07.

I also remember that , it was my first year as a texan fan and o boy was i excited. Then the **** hit the fan . All i remember thinking after those 2 games was " Y haven't i been watchin these *******er's in years past"
Then our season slowly came to a hault.

From a Colts fan on another board:
So, the Colts start Bethea, Melvin Bullitt (who's been good), and rookies Powers and Lacey. That alone isn't that bad. However - the nickel back is Tim Jennings (not a favorite of Colts fans) and their dime back is their punt return specialist.

They could handle 2 secondary injuries OK - 3 is really, really tough. Hayden needs to get back and stay healthy for a playoff run for the Colts to have a decent chance to win a playoff game. Meanwhile - if the Colts get through with a split with the Texans, and can somehow squeak by the Pats with minimal injuries - I'd be thrilled (meaning 2 and 2 the next 4 weeks).

The Daniels injury, coupled with the Colts injuries almost obliges us to run almost exclusively out of 3 and 4 WR sets.

I posted in another thread that I thought our best chance to win would be to run 2 and 3 TE sets with Dreesen, Hill, and Butler, run the ball, and run down the clock. But, it might be to spread them out and throw on their depleted secondary. The catch there is handling Mathis and Freeney.

It should be really interesting to see how Kubiak and Shanahan approach this.

how about do both?

Sucks for Sanders but remember we're also down Pitts and Brisiel, Jerimiah Johnson, Troy Nolan and OD it's not like we don't have injuries. That's 3 starters and 2 gu dfys who would've been given a decent shot. That's only the season ending variety, not to forget Mario's shoulder, AJ's freaking lung, Schaub's ankle, Walter's hamstring, Casey's knee blah blah blah.

If the announcers put injuries up as an excuse for the Colts I'll be real disappointed but not so surprised. Big chance for the Texans to stake a claim for the AFC south.

Man I would just about give my right nut if it could bring back OD for this game. OD would have been huge with Sanders out.

My plan would be to spread this D out, force them into playing nickel and dime most of the game and exploit those guys. I would throw to Walter, Jacoby and others that are matched up on these guys as well as Dressen. Hopefully if we have a lot of 3,4 and even 5 wides, that will keep 8 out of the box and then I would run right up the gut. Run right at Freeney and those guys. I would try to exploit the deep middle but that is much more difficult with OD out. I would also split Slaton out as a WR. I like that match up a LOT in this game. I would use the screens, draws, etc to try to keep Freeny and company honest upfront, use our athletism and speed to try and take some short gainers for the distance or at least get lots of YAC.

That would be my general plan. I wouldn't use 3 TE's at all in this game except for a very rare 4th and inches scenerio.

This is a reason why GM/Owners are weary of signing long term contracts. He played lights out, got a deal, and the wear and tear caught up to him.

BTW, Sanders has suffered a torn bicep tendon and is out indefinitely. Heard it at lunch, no linky

What is everyone talking about?! Those guys practically haven't played at all this season due to injury. The Colts have been going the season mostly without them anyways. Sanders barely was back and I think Hayden was already out. We've had injuries and they have injuries, but we all gotta step up go in there and play football.

:fans:

Y'all are silly for dismissing the Colts simply because key players are missing from their defense. It's never been their defense that's concerned me much. It's the other side of the ball that's got me alert. I respect the Indianapolis Colts. I hope we beat them.
