Hows Pollard doing?

Im obviously a Chiefs fan, I was a little shocked that Pollard was let go, most likely because he didnt fit what the new coaching staff wanted from their safety.

He was always a good player and one of my favorites. Always going for the strip and laying the wood in run support.

He also pulled an ole' a couple times a game trying for the big hit instead of wrapping up and showing discipline.

My question to you guys is, how is he doing with a better front seven to cause some rushed passes?

What is your opinions on how he has done against the run? I bet he has helped.

Whats the overall thought of the fan base on how he has played so far.

Im also here to offer my opinions on him if you guys have questions.

Pollard has been a big help to the defense. With his addition, Reeves coming back from injury, and Robinson and Cushing getting into game shape the defense has been much improved over the past 4 weeks.

Pollard may have saved our season!
 
I'm not a DVR champ like some guys but when he and Quinn took over for the 2 bums we had before the big run plays stopped. He has been solid at defending the run, however I can't say how he's played in coverage since I don't have access to game film.

much, much less. He is a credible, not elite, but credible front line NFL SS...something we really didn't have.
 
I'm not a real strict film watcher either, the most I do is watch the game over again just to catch a few things. As folks have already said, a conclusion can be made we are a better team with Pollard than without.

If you are a Pollard fan, I can say without a doubt we appreciate him on our team, and sorry for your loss. We've been without good safeties for so long now it's wonderful to get some decent play out of the position.

The bold says it all. He isn't very good in coverage but man when he came in, our run defense seemed to get exponentially better. Very good signing in my opinion.

In terms of purely stopping the run and giving us the confidence boost needed to do so, he is the tied with Cushing (First round draft pick, #15.) as the team defensive MVP. These two have competely turned around the team and their mentality

He's played pretty well in coverage. VD lit us up but much of that is on the linebackers not getting a jam when he was over the top. In man he has been better than expected.
 
And to add to just the identity change we've been seeing on the team as a whole.

Cushing and Pollard hits and just overall meaness seems to have inspired the entire LB core, they just fly around and HIT. Yeah yeah, a late hit here and there, but man, thats what we NEED. Once this D gets their identity, LOOK OUT.

Mario and Okoye are playing with some heat also, I'm sure knowing they got some MISSLES flying around behind them, I am sure having a security blanket behind you lets you do more on the front end.

Then, we got Mr. Pass I on the backend, who is good for a good jaw buster every game.

Just combine everything together and we are def. undergoing that identity change.


And on offense! Man, when AJ gets PUMPED up (IE Titans game), this team RESPONDS.
 
I am loving the signing of Pollard. We were really struggling at the position so one team's castoff was our team's treasure. He might struggle a bit in coverage but he makes up for in playing against the run. He brings the wood, loves to give out a hard hit and plays with intensity. Maybe just an average safety with respect to the rest of the NFL but was a definite upgrade for us. We have not given up those big run plays since he has been on board. :truck:

No offense, but after watching replays of recent Chiefs games, any Safety could do better than what y'all currently have out there. I might be off base here, but I just can't see how Pollard wouldn't fit better than who you've got now.

We're happy with Pollard so far. A couple mistakes in the passing game, but he's been an improvement overall.

Thanks man. I guess the San Fran game is still too fresh in my mind. Don't get me wrong, I love the attitude the guy brings to the team. Also, your SS doesn't really need to be great in coverage; his main job is run support if I am not mistaken. So far, the guy looks like he is a steal.

Im not Todd Haley

I could understand if they traded him and got something, but I was quite disappointed when we he was released.

Makes me think they are setting up to draft a safety with a top pick...

Haley seems like he's an all biddness kinda guy, no? I think he'll get'r done in KC eventually.

Considering our running game sucks primarily due to the interior line, I'd say it's a definite need.

Anywho, no need to talk draft yet. Loads of football left. :cool:
 
I believe we were last in the league against the rush before Pollard showed up, since we've been #1. I don't have have the time right now the check it for sure, can somebody see if my math is right? I love the signing personally!

He is great against the run. I love him. He and Ryans let the TE run free last Sunday, but he's so good against the run, we'll have to live with that, I think.
 
I am loving having Pollard on this team. He has been a beast against the run, and IMO average against the pass. I also like his personality, hes very well spoken, and a really nice, polite guy....... until he steps on to the field.

not counting that first game he missed after coming over from KC, w/Pollard starting the Texans are 3-1. even after missing those first three games Benard is already 6th on the team in tackles, the Texans have gone from last in the NFL run defense to 21st, passing defense to 18th & 10th in tackles.

don't forget about David Gibbs & his role both in recommending Pollard (defensive backs coach in KC) & bringing him up to speed in Frank Bush new aggressive 4-3 scheme. he plays up on his toes not his heels, reads coverage well good ball instincts & not afraid to lay his hat on the line.

wish KC & it's great fans all the best, when you break things down & start over like you did some changes happen for a reason, some make no sense at all. I think this was more a case of the coaching staff not buying into Pollard or Pollard not buying into them which caused the break, thankfully for :logo:
 
Pollard has been an absolute gift. When he came in, he immediately plugged the biggest whole in our defense at that time. I hope we can hold onto him after this season.

the Chiefs used to be known as the Texans before they moved to KC...

I was a Pollard fan the whole time he was in KC. I have talked to him about a dozen times at camp and wanted to see how he was doing.

As long as you guys dont expect him to be great in coverage, you will be pleased.

He might have a hole or two in his game, but it's so nice to now have a safety who is good at something. Throughout the Texans' history, we've been plagued by some of the sorriest safety play imaginable. Pollard's been no worse in coverage than any of the other safeties we've run out there over the years.

And Pollard's strengths fit exactly what we needed. If you examine the Texans' game by game stats, you can tell the exact moment Pollard stepped onto the field for us: game four.

In games 1-3 (against a pretty feeble set of offenses: Jets, Titans and Jags), the Texans gave up an average of 205 yards/game on the ground. In those first three games, they allowed runs of 38, 39, 57, 91, 61 and 30 yards. Some pundits were asking if they were witnessing the worst defense of all time.

In the four games Pollard has played (Oakland, Arizona, Cincy and SF), the Texans have allowed an average of 48.5 yards. The longest run they've allowed was a 20-yarder to Heyward-Bey on a reverse. The best run by a RB in that span was a 13 yard gain by Justin Fargas.

Obviously, this incredible reversal is due to more than just one player, but Pollard has clearly been a key figure in the turnaround. I would say I'm incredibly pleased with Pollard right now.

Quinn should also be credited with the turnaround, since his numbers show 19 tackles, 6 assists, and 3 deflected passes. Pollard has 17 tackles, 6 assists, and 1 fumble recovery.

I agree with you Brisco. Addition of Pollard and GQ made me more comfortable about our DB situation.

Pollard is like God's gift to the SS position in comparison to what we had before. Then again...so was that pilon that they put out there during practice.

He's been a great pick-up for us and very instrumental in this defense appearing to be on the verge of becoming our best yet, but the verdict is still out. We'll know more after the upcoming weekend in Indy ? Now understand that's a modest boast since we've had limited success here to date, but to get such a formidable "box safety" for what we paid - sweet deal !
BTW I'm a native of the KC area and of course remain a Chiefs fans even after being down here for decades and I'm confidant you guys will get things turned around at some point, but it may take another season or 2 ? Good luck BossChief and GO Chiefs !

My best guess is he pissed the wrong person off. I never saw him play in KC but the general feeling I get from Chiefs fans over him being cut is one of shock and surprise.
 
missed tackles and bad pass defense were his knocks in KC

I feel he got villianized because we had absolutely no pass rush. We broke the record for least sacks in a year with only 10. That put Pollard in a position were he needed to be in coverage more than he should have been asked to and when the new regime came in, I think he was used as a scapegoat. JMO

On 610 yesterday Eric Winston said that he was told the Chiefs let Pollard go because he cared too much, and would jump on guys for making bad plays, slacking off, and got to where it annoyed everyone and wasn't a good locker room guy.!?!?!?!?! EW said that couldn't be farther from the truth from what he has seen in Pollard with the Texans. He said a lot of the other guys can't figure out why KC let him go either, and that he's been a good team mate so far, and obviously has helped the D quite a bit. D Rob had good things to say about him to yesterday morning on 610.

Sounds like a great locker room guy. Hold people accountable. The Chiefs are poorly ran, ATM, so no suprise there.

You would have thought someone else would have picked him up though, it's a bit odd maybe we just got lucky or his pass coverage skills are really lacking. The reason we are doing much better isn't simply pollard though, our DL isn't getting pushed 10 yards into the secondary anymore and people are able to flow to the ball now.

It's not like every team needs a safety.
Then there are a few different circles of fraternity/alliance of coaching and player personnels out there.
And the agent needs to talk to as many teams as possible and get the best deal for his client (and for himself).
A couple of weeks ain't that long!

And his coverage skills are not the greatest either!

He also wanted to play for Gibbs. That helped us, IMO.
 
If you watch his interview from Houstontexans.com when he first came
here, he talked about how amazed he was at his first day at Texans
Practice. Bernard said he was happy to finally play with a good front-seven.
He went out of his way to not knock his former teammates, but at the same
time, he acknowledged the importance of a good front-seven to his play
as a safety.
